Was never a hockey trope person but AHH this changed me😂 it’s always the player who falls for the amazing girl and it was a bit cheesy but enjoyable read!

Gah, I flove a good hockey romance and this is up with the best of them.
The chemistry between Maeve and Sergei is electrical, however their humour and heartbreaking honesty, is what did it for me.
Maeve is no shy wall flower, she is successful as a mechanic and business owner. Maybe not so successful in her relationships, however with her brothers and her Dad 'looking out' for her, this is no surprise.
Sergei is a rich, arrogant player, through and through. However, hockey is his lifeline and behind the scenes he is covering up family history and a dark experience.
The difference for me with this hockey romance is that Sergei is not trying to be redeemable. He is actually arrogant but with a fierce sense of love, protectiveness and a wish to help those deserving of it. With Maeve's personality and understanding, Sergei's arrogance is sometimes endearing, funny and protective. I fell in love with him too!
There is a little cameo from Sergei's team mate, Lance, which leads to a funny date for Maeve and Sergei, however this book is a standalone, you don't need to have read Lance's story (it's worth a read though).
All in all a definite 5 star read for me and one to be added to my fave re-read list. It's exceptionally well written and just ticks all my humour, chemistry, drama, family, possessive boxes!

This hockey romance that starts with a fake relationship turns into much more. It is sizzling hot and turbulent and embraces the opposites attract tropes. I loved Sergei's bad boy, extremely hot, cocky, and protective personality. Maeve is a basic blue-collar girl who works hard and loves even harder. Together, their chemistry is burning hot, and the author incorporates all the sizzling scenes. Overall, it was an excellent contemporary romance read. I did enjoy the banter and the sassy female.
I appreciate the content note at the beginning of the book. This book is for a mature audience.
Maeve is a mechanic and has a family entirely of men. She had local ties to the auto shop and the ice arena. She is sassy, snarky, and ballsy, but I love her spirit. Our first impression of Sergei is that he is a playboy with nice abs. He comes off as very full of himself.
Sergei's protective instincts are on point when it comes to Maeve. From acquaintance to fake fiancee, this escalated fast. I love the banter. Their chemistry is smoking hot. Oh, it finally erupts, and I love that the author added a mature quirk, so Maeve isn't so perfect. The book is sizzling in the intimacy scene. Be prepared, ladies. The author goes into just enough scorching hot details to get your own libido going.
Of course, their perfect bubble erupts, and the fallout is to be expected. I love the grand gesture and the heartfelt revelations. The book goes uphill from here, finally working like a basic relationship should, even with a few kinks thrown in. The books end happily and steamy as these two can't keep their hands off each other.

Columbus Mavericks…
First I have to say I loved reading a book based in my hometown!
I really enjoyed reading about Maeve and Sergei. Yes he was a dog when they first met but he quickly melted Maeve’s walls down. Both were new to this relationship thing and it showed.
Sergei had his ghosts from the past that haunted his present. They almost took the one thing he’s never had, a person that saw through all his BS and flirty charm to the real man.
I loved their banter, Maeve never backed down and snarked right back at Sergei. She had moments of doubt but he really showed her that she made him want to be better man.
Hockey, low angst and lots of steamy goodness is to be had in this book. This was a new author to me and I will definitely want to read more about the Columbus Mavericks.

Maeve and Sergei couldn’t be more freaking different but together their chemistry is explosive. Their witty banter will have you cracking up, the way Sergei talks about himself literally had me laughing so hard. The way Maeve literally turns his whole world upside down from the very first meeting was everything. I literally could not put this book down because I had to see what was going to happen next. Maeve changes the way Sergei viewed his whole life and himself. Maeve gave him something he never truly had but always needed. Watching this man grow and come to learn that he deserves love and deserves and great woman standing by his side with truly have you in awe. This was a fantastic read.

It's been a hot minute since I got so engrossed in a book and I adored this, couldn't put it down!
It's got the charm and cutesy romance comedy of a hallmark but has spice and drama and it was perfection!
Maeves is a mechanic and her father is the ice master for the Mavericks.
Sergei is one of the cocky star players who is known widely for his playboy ways.
Circumstances has their paths crossing snf leads them into unchartered territories when they "fake date" as a favour and both develop feelings where everything seems to be working against them.
I shed some tears at the end I was so damn happy they get their HEA.
Wish I could read it for the first time again I love them! 💕💕💕

My first experience with this author was “Zero Sum Love”, which stars the family of these characters in the future. That made it a bit surreal to come back and see where it all started with this book. I absolutely loved Maeve and Sergei. I had so much fun watching both of them soften up for each other, because each of them have had to be very strong and guarded in their own ways. It was utterly fantastic to witness Sergei’s world get turned upside down by the “right” woman. But, I think he threw Maeve’s world into just as much of a tailspin. I’m loving these characters and I can’t wait to read even more about them.

Maeve and Sergei are opposites attract and repel. While Maeve is helping her dad at the hockey rink, Sergei strolls into her life and, with one phone call, turns everything upside down. Unable to stop themselves, their drawn together again when Sergei tries to change the narrative. One favor for another leads them down the farm path to romance if they can only overcome the past. They were cute and I can picture their dynamic.

Love, love, loved it!!
This was probably my favorite book by Laura Diamond!
The storyline grabbed my attention from the start. As I continued to read it, I didn't want to put it down.
Filled with emotions, humor, drama, spice and much more!!
I loved Maeve and Sergei.
The banter between them had me smiling and the sexual tension and steam was so good.
I truly think they brought out the best in each other and were exactly what the other needed!!

November 5, 2023This was an emotional, don't put me down read! Maeve and Sergei were destined to be together, despite their different upbringing and different lifestyles. I loved the emotions that they portrayed and the fierceness of their love for each other. They had to overcome a few unexpected hurdles, but their love for each other got them through. I loved this story and can't wait to read more from this author and this world!

Maeve and Sergei couldn't be more polar opposites but when they're together they did make for an endearing and engaging read. I love their easy and teasing banter which had me in stitches at times. It was their relationship with each other as well as with family that I most liked in this book. It gave Sergei a sweetness underneath all that cockiness. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a great read.

I loved this book. I like how Maeve was portrayed and was an independent mechanic and not displayed like a damsel in distress. There romance was amazing and he was obsessed with her from the beginning. Definitely need to check out more from this author

So good!!! I’m starting to get hooked on all the fake dating stories plus Hockey romance. Loved reading about Maeve and Sergei. I did laugh a little at some parts. Storyline was very well written and so good. Start to finish I was hooked right into story. So good. Definitely a must read.

This book is so sweet and romantic, it pulls on your heart. The love the couple shares is so natural and organic. Insecurities from both POV, just an honest conversation about how people process new relationships and different upbringings, past trauma, life choice. Just adorable and a bit steamy!

Great read.
I really enjoyed this book. Sergei and Maeve were so different but so good together, they balanced each other so well. My heart broke for Sergei when he told Maeve about the incident on his past and what his mother did but I loved bed it so much when Maeve stood up for him against his family.
Also, I would love to read about Ana in the future, I can't help but think that she and Bryce would make a great couple!!

This was a great first in world by a brand new to me author. Having really begun digging hockey related reads, I was happy snap this one up, and it didn’t disappoint.
Spoiled hockey superstar, Sergei Petrov finds himself a bit stuck and unsure how to get unstuck. Feisty Maeve MacElroy isn’t sure about what she wants but knows there’s something.
When you throw in a serious emergency, over bearing big brothers, spoiled sisters, and snobby, pretentious parents, you get the book. It’s also full of laughter and heart touching moments of sweet romance. But please, don’t sleep on the inferno that breaks out either because my goodness!

Fantastic read! I love a good hockey story and Maeve and Sergei were ideal! The playboy and the girl who isn’t impressed by him….always a fun troupe! This story is so much more than just that! There are laughs, sighs, drama(family and personal), growth and oh so much forgiveness. A must read!

TW. Discussions of sexual assault
The author understands statutory rape but doesn’t understand that filming someone during a sex act without their knowledge or consent is ALSO illegal and a form of sexual assault. Around 60% in a video of the MMC engaging in a consensual threesome is released to the public. A video that was filmed without his knowledge or consent, and he was then blackmailed over, is treated as something he is responsible for and should be ashamed of. He is punished and treated as less than for engaging in consensual sex and the fact the FMC is not incensed on his behalf is unforgivable. The MMC then has to grovel to get the FMC back instead of the FMC groveling to get him back. I kept reading hoping the author would make it right, and finally dnf’d when she had the MMC in his own head essentially saying he deserved to be videotaped and it was a consequence of his choices but somehow also acknowledged that releasing the video was wrong when it was revealed his parents are the ones who released it. FFS. It’s 2024. Do better

This is my first time to read and review a book by Laura Marques Diamond, and I was not disappointed! The sexy sassy heroine and an undeniable sexy hockey hunk from Russia have it all going for them. What is not to love when Sergei and Maeve meet up and clash heads from the get-go! You will fall in love with their hilarious banter and enjoy the slow burn love that simmers below the surface. There is plenty of hot passion within the pages also!
Sergei has a history, as most prominent athletes do, with being a ladies' man, but when his eyes meet Maeve's across the arena, all bets are off. He finds that he doesn't need the other women to keep him company, all he wants is Maeve. Maeve is smitten, but refuses to show it, and when Sergei helps stop Maeve being sued, she finds she sees a different side to this hockey player than what he normally shows the world.
It is an uphill battle for Sergei, not only to win Maeve's attention, but to get the approval from her father and brothers, but Sergie is determined.
Bumps in the road with Sergie's past coming back to haunt him, and his parents trying to split up the couple, all serve to remind Maeve who and what he is. Can this hockey Jock, win the heart of the woman who has his? A brilliant 5 star read that I am sure you will enjoy just as I did!!

This was an amazing read! I laughed so much while reading it.
Maeve was an amazing FMC. Being the baby and the only girl, she had to learn to be tough. Her quick wit, spunky attitude, and the fact that she is a car mechanic made for a great character. She refuses to accept anything less than she deserves and is so fierce. Seeing her battle her emotions and insecurities with Sergei was the perfect way to see the growth of her character. Just because someone always appears to be tough doesn't mean that they don't have some insecurities to work on.
Sergei, woo baby, his complete lack of relationships provided extra comedic relief. I laughed so much when all the guys were talking in the bar. Goes to show that you can be good looking and get all the girls with no effort when the girls mean nothing, but oh the fun in seeing him actually work for Maeve. His grothe and development was also perfection.
The clips we get with the teammates, families and friends really made this book. Ana, in particular, was a wonderful side character. I enjoyed the moments with her.
Everything about this one was fantastic. I look forward to the rest of this series! I can't wait to see what happens next!

I loved Sergei and Maeve's story, definitely a book I couldn't put down once I started reading.
Sergei is an arrogant playboy, but he is also very protective of anyone close to him. He didn't lose his arrogance throughout the book even after he was 'dating' Maeve, his personality stayed exactly the same and he had some great responses because of this.
Maeve was funny and could hold her own after growing up with 3 brothers and owning a garage, she could really put Sergei in his place. The banter between her and others was fun to read.
These two had some very steamy chemistry. They brought the best out in each other and the character growth and learning from their relationship added so much more to their story, it wasn't just a story about a playboy changing his ways.
It may have started as fake, but they both have to deal with some heavy personal stuff and support each other

Maeve was a great mechanic and she was helping her father with updates to the state-of-the-art computer-regulated ice resurfacer. Her father knew the ice resurfacer inside and out, but not so much about computer updates. While Maeve is working on it, she sends her father to get a snack, mean while in the door of the ice arena walks a beautiful man, Sergei, wow! I loved this book so much, at 80%, I was slowing down to make the book last longer! Maeve and Sergei are now my favorite sports couple of all time! Once again, Ms. Diamond blew me away with the undertones of how important family is and how some of us are very lucky with it and how some are not. Maeve grew up without a mother, but couldn’t have been loved more by her father and brothers. Sergei grew up all over, separated by his mother and sister. They had power, prestige, and money, but there was no love for Sergei except for his younger sister. Maeve didn’t think anyone would see her under her mechanic’s persona until Sergei came along. Sergei never had anyone fight for him and see the real person underneath the gorgeous hockey persona until Maeve. What started out as a teasing friendship, becomes a whole lot more and I am here for it! They are fire and ice and I love them!!!! Highly recommend!
