Edward wasn’t a fixer. He wasn’t someone’s white knight, maybe beige in a good light, and no one with any sense would give him a sharp implement to wield. He liked his numbers and had been known to get occasionally creative with a tax return, could cook a respectable shepherd’s pie and was kind, or tried to be.
Which left him somewhat of a loss to know what to do with a battered and bruised young man with haunted eyes and a penchant for scrubbing his hands until they almost bled, who clung onto Edward’s old childhood stuffed bear like it was the answer to all life’s troubles.
But it was soon to be Christmas. A season of miracles. A season of wishes. Of hopes and dreams that sometimes came true. Maybe, just maybe, not all knights needed to slay dragons. Some might just gather pieces of a single broken heart together, one fluffy blanket, one gentle word, and one shoulder to cry on, one step at a time.
Buttons is part of A Daddy for Christmas, a multi-author series. All the books are standalones, but each Daddy has a unique gift for his wonderful boy (or boys). Except all boys know that sometimes Santa gets it wrong, and it's going to take a very special Daddy to make it right. So why not read them all?
**This book contains some memories of past physical abuse. If you feel this might be triggering, please skip this one. You enjoying this holiday season is far more important to me than selling a book. Merry Christmas xx
Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.
She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.
And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.
I enjoyed this, but I felt that a few things weren't resolved.
Overall, this is a nice and sweet story by an author I’ve enjoyed many times over the years. Buttons: A Daddy for Christmas is a super slow burn for both men. While it’s definitely a Daddy slash little book, it wasn’t as heavy on that as most Daddy and little books I’ve read. I’d like to see these guys a little down the road. I’m also curious about the club. I’ll have to stalk the author’s books to see if they’re from another book/series that’s already been published.

This story is a common theme but done is a really refreshing way. You have both a daddy and boy without experience who are figuring things out together. Also there are lots of things to work out. This is a great story with a very wonderful holiday ending. #CMCon24
Writing style--this is easily 5 stars. I started reading this because the plot intrigued me and it had quite a few good reviews, but I'm not going to lie, with the title, the series, and the fact that it's a daddy/little boy kink I figured this would be cheesy mediocre writing. But it wasn't, the writing was actually pretty fantastic. Avi is a 23 yo who history is peppered with homophobia, abuse, and even being held in a psychiatric ward against his will. Edward is a 50-something man who's gentle, intelligent, kind, and insecure. Edward and Avi meet when Edward delivers a secret santa gift from a kink club that his sister and brother in law owns. While he's there Avi gets kicked out of his apartment (and Edward gets punched by the landlord), so Edward lets him stay with him. The growth of their relationship was so realistic. There wasn't immediate lustful attraction, there wasn't immediate trust, it all just grew. They get to know eachother, and Edward is so patient and sweet and kind--and through it all you read about his self doubts, his insecurity, and how he's falling for this young man but can't comprehend anyone, especially a younger man like Avi, falling in love with an old man like himself. This is a story where both characters help each other, it's not one sided at ALL. The only reason this is not 5 stars is due to the fact there are a few subplots that are unresolved. The landlord punching Edward, nothing happens from that. Edward doesn't call the cops, Edward is even aware that what the landlord is evicting Avi over is illegal--but he does nothing about it. Also, there's a part where Edward goes shopping and leaves Avi alone, and Avi gets assaulted...when Edward finds out, nothing happens. All that happens is that character is black listed from every kink club in the area. Sorry, but...that's not a good enough of a punishment. Obviously, not only those who are in clubs are at risk from him. So if these loose threads were resolved, I would have rated this novella as 5 stars. But this is surprisingly a beautiful story about two people who need each other finding each other and finding love. Victoria Sue is an author that I'll be reading again (and she doesn't only write daddy kink, thankfully).
As a Christian, even an Evangelical one, I will never understand the treatment and abuse caused to LGBTQ+ in Jesus' name. I've read the bible more than 30 times and I never found a valid reason. In fact in my opinion and in Jesus' own words, they are accepted and loved. (The story of the 7 brothers, and one wife proves it) unfortunately many Christians use the words of Moses, Paul, and others to justify their hatred without taking anything in context. Sorry for my rant it just frustates me to no end. Anyway, Poor Avi, a young man hiding from his abusive family, desperate for love, submits his name for a gift at a local kink club. The owners, Dean and Maggie's brother Edward is their accountant, but desperate to get away on their vacation, they ask Edward to deliver the gift. He meets Avi hiding behind his door, and seeing his condition, works his way into the apartment, just as Avi's landlord shows up and demands Avi leave. Edward tries to intervene, and is assaulted for his effort, but he can't let Avi wind up on the streets. Vowing to help Avi get back on his feet, he takes Avi home. This is a beautiful story, and the trope is my favorite. Showing someone who only knows abuse and neglect, that they deserve love, and someone willing to give it.
Accountant Edward did a favour for someone and found himself at a loss as to what to do with the battered and bruised young man with haunted eyes and a habit of scrubbing his hands clean until they almost bled who was clinging onto Edward's childhood stuffed bear as if it was everything. It was almost Christmas and a time when hopes and dreams come true when someone might just gather pieces of a single broken heart together, one fluffy blanket, one gentle word, and one shoulder to cry on, one step at a time.
This was a really sweet story and the history was heartbreaking. I loved that they were both new to the lifestyle and I loved the way that Edward's brother-in-law finally made Edward see what was obvious to everyone else. (I just wanted to give him a high five!). This was easy to feel the emotions involved as well as their thoughts. This is an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB dynamic.
This was on my TBR all of two seconds before I dove into it and once there, I couldn't put the story down. I'm not sure if it was because of Avi, the young man who had been physically and emotionally abused by his stepfather and was now living in fear of everyone, or if it was Thomas, the 51-year-old accountant who'd never really experienced love and a relationship and thought he never would.
But both of these men deserved happiness and I loved the way the author slowly built their story and addressed Avi's issues while at the same time letting both men learn more about Daddy/little relationships and how they might be a good fit.
Overall, a very tender and sweet love story in the Daddy/little kink theme (no ABDL) that left me with warm and fuzzy holiday feelings and a desire for more just like this one.
It’s not often that a story is so gripping for lack of a better word & doesn’t have any descriptive sexual content beyond one time & I’m not disappointed. Which blows my mind because usually I tend to be quite disgruntled but in this case it could have been completely clean due to the therapeutic need Avi required & overall it was what most would call sweet but for me it’s more than that. The needs Avi had & how seemingly effortless it was for Edward to meet them. Boy this was the exact breath of fresh air I needed after reading a particular dud in this series for me. I loved Edward’s sister Maggie & her husband Dean, they were fantastic side characters. Lastly, I wish certain characters carried over because I would love to read Gareth’s story but alas. 6⭐️ 💜💜💜
I'm usually a huge fan of Daddy/little books and I was really excited to read this one, but, honestly, it just fell flat. The story just dragged on and on, and I couldn't even call it a "slow burn" because there was no burn at all. The characters were two dimensional and flat, and try as I might, I just couldn't find it in me to truly care about them. Little Avi had so many emotional issues and I didn't feel like any of them were truly resolved. Daddy Edward was, to put it nicely, boring AF, and dragged his feet so much that he was practically going backwards. It wasn't at all my cup of tea and that's the best I can say about it. I don't like to leave mostly negative reviews but, yawn ... I had to skim through just to get to the ending faster.
I don’t know why, but this warm little story moved me to tears. Avi and Edward fit together so beautifully as they navigate their Little/Daddy roles that are new to both of them. They both want what is best for the other and then they finally realize that fulfilling their own deepest needs is what makes the other happiest.
I’m very happy I came across this is Kindle Unlimited and clicked the Read Now button.
Side note: I’m a fussy reader and I didn’t slam into any grievous grammar errors, misspelled words, or awkward phrasing. There is a lovely balance between the British phrases from Edward and the American phrases from the other characters. Both sides of the pond were well presented.
3☆ This was very sweet and I really enjoyed it... all the way up to the big climactic moment at the end which was the most underwhelming letdown to an otherwise good story I've come across in a lonnnnnng time. Sigh. Another complaint? That .
I can only assume the author was rushed and had to race through the ending or something. 🫤
Age gap: around 15 years Daddy/boy relationship Hurt/comfort - past trauma, brief on-page attempt at sexual assault, physical assault
Sweet with a hint of heat. Edward is tasked with taking a Christmas present to a member of his sister and brother-in-law's Club who missed the gift exchange. Avi has been struggling and finds himself being evicted in front of a handsome stranger. They feel a pull toward one another and Edward decides to bring him home for the holidays. Both have a lot of mental obstacles to face, navigate, and overcome
This was an interesting Christmas story and held my attention. It’s equal parts sad and hopeful. The two main characters Avi and Edward were well developed. Edward is almost 30 years older than Avi and both are interested in each other. Edward is afraid he is too old for Avi and Avi thinks he’s too broken for Edward. Avi is looking for a Daddy to take the decisions of daily life off his shoulders. He’s also been terribly abused in the past. Both men are carrying a lot of baggage. The author did a great job of capturing Avi’s mental pain and his coping mechanisms. I liked the writing style.
Oh my goodness, Avi's backstory is so heartbreaking. I just want to hug him like he cuddles Buttons, Edward's old teddy bear. Edward rescues Avi from a dire situation and can't help falling for the young man the more he gets to know him. But he is worried he is too old for the young man. With the help of family and new friends, these two realize they are perfect for each other. A sweet Christmas story.
Buttons is a very sweet, age gap romance with a new to the scene daddy and a boy who needs to explore his little side after a very bad relationship. While one of them is sure it's a connection, the other is hesitant and needs to work up the courage to claim his boy...
I loved the symbolism of Buttons and the slow build to the relationship It was a beautiful holiday story!
Pretty typical little story with a hurt/comfort angle. A big issue was the OCD hand washing issue but then it just kind of faded away and wasn't mentioned again.
I am a bit over these guys who claim to be too old or too young and then basically try to find the person they are obviously in love with a "suitable" partner. Like re-homing a dog or something.
This was a great story about a boy who had been abused and had nowhere to go, and an older man who is just existing. Their journey is one of exploration and discovery, and one of healing and love. It was so easy to root for these two and rejoice in their HEA!
I liked this book,,, abuse happens everywhere and it just takes one to stop it like this grandfather did for his grandson but a miracle happened when the right person helps out and find a better life
This was a sweet story between these two. Both finding their way as a daddy and a little. Avi is just the sweetest guy looking for someone to put him first as he should. Cute quick read.
A sweet Christmas story. Edward was doing a favor, delivering a present to a boy. When he knocked on the door he was taken with the face of the young man who answered. He never considered himself a Daddy, but he wanted to care for Avi.
Well written story and well developed characters! Make sure you read the trigger warnings! This is an awesome book and I enjoyed it! Covers a lot of abuses but he didn't stay down!
Dropping off the Secret Santa gift to Avi from the Hell’s Teeth kink club should have been quick and easy for Edward. What happened is life changing, Enjoy Edward and Avi as they handle difficulties, reveal their true feelings for each other and experience steamy moments!!!
This was a sweet romance that focused on healing and working to overcome trauma. I enjoyed learning more about the MCs and seeing them carve out their HEA.
Oh man this was so good. My heart hurt for both of them. While Avi’s was more traumatic, Edward had to heal too. Their journey was so emotionally felt. I wanted to hug them both so much.
