Dinner Disasters

Dinner Disasters: Dutch and Penelope

Rate this book
It was a case of mistaken identity. Without stopping to see who was answering the door to the apartment he knocked on, Dutch blurted out the invitation to dinner.
But instead of asking out the girl he had a crush on, he'd asked out her roommate, Penelope.
Dutch decided one dinner date with Pen would be fine and that would be the end of things.
Except...he fell in love with Pen on that date and eventually asked her to marry him.
Life was perfect.
Until Penelope overhead Dutch telling his former crush that asking Penelope out had been a mistake.

This was okay, but not really convincing.

Dutch had a ONS with Penelope's roommate, Cheryl, and the next night he went to their apartment to ask her to go on a date with him. He was drunk and just blurted out his invitation when Pen accidentally opened the door. Then she got so excited that Dutch asked her out, and initially he felt sorry for Pen; that's why he didn't correct her, and they went on that date together.

Two years passed, and Dutch and Pen were already engaged. He said he fell for her on that very first date, and he continued to see her until they became a couple and engaged in the present time. They invited their friends over to have dinner, but Cheryl came in earlier, and Pen overheard the convo between her and Dutch.

According to him, all the things he said to Cheryl were not true and were just to appease her, not to tell Pen that they had ONS before. So he told her that Pen was a mistake, but it turned out to be OK with her. He let her believe she's the one who got away. He also agreed to her question, saying that he does imagine what could've happened if they ended up together instead of Pen. Like I said, he said all of these awful things to let Cheryl hear what she wanted to hear.

But Pen was hurt and felt betrayed by all the things she heard. Once their friends left, she confronted him, and he explained things to her, but she wouldn't believe any of it. She asked for space, and he left their apartment. Then he tried to fix them for two weeks, I think?

Anyway, I just can't buy his reasoning either. I'm not convinced by his truths, but Pen eventually believed him, and they got back together. 🤷‍♀️

Ummmm..he didn’t really grovel enough in my opinion. He said a couple pretty words to offset the terrible words he previously said but it didn’t fly with me and she took him back too easily. Also Penelope wasn’t petty enough for me. I love this authors female characters because they are so perfectly petty and Pen was not at all. He spoke to her as if he demanded her forgiveness instead of begging for it. So I didn’t like either of these characters.

I honestly don’t have the energy to write a review but this one says it all and I agree with her. I dont like that he didn’t see the h and was obsessed w her roommate for a while. And that only when he was forced to keep the date did he SEE her. Ugh and I don’t like that while she was crushing on him he fucked her roommate. Ewwww it’s only told to us but still like gross and she is around for years after. Close friends.

Does he grovel hard yes but honestly couldnt luve w a guy that didn’t originally want me and hid important shit for years? I don’t know.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Anyways I don’t think it’s even safe cause although nothing on page this guy was a manwhore and had hookup w her roommate and friend all the while she pined for him.
Plus side… it’s a novella so it’s short

Trigger warnings: No triggers I believe but FMC overhears MMC say hurtful things to OW about FMC that weren’t true

Note:The author who has added the books to Goodreads is not the author who has written these books (the account is not theirs, this has been verified by the author on Wattpad). Out of respect for the author, I won’t be posting detailed reviews for these books. I’ll add trigger warnings for those who wanna check them out as well as the link to where to read them. I’ll have personal ratings for me but I won’t be posting them either. I have already read a lot of their books and might have to copy and paste some portions of this on other "reviews" since I do wanna add these books to my shelves. But their books are freely available on Wattpad, they are kind enough to let their stories be free for us all to read. Unfortunately, a lot of people have plagiarized from this author and have tried to add their books to pay-per-chapter apps. If you can help and report this when you see it, that would help a ton.

This is about Dutch and Penelope, Dutch wanted to go on a date with his crush. He went over to her place and asked the second the door opened. Instead of it being his crush, it was her roommate Penelope. He thought it wouldn’t hurt to go on one date with her and then end things but he ended up continuing to date her and fell in love with her. He asked her to marry him but Penelope overheard him tell his former crush that Penelope was a huge mistake. This was a short and satisfying grovel, check it out if you want something quick.

Happy reading folks. I love GroveltoHEA and they have surprised me by making MMCs do TERRIBLE things and have me forgive them with grovel. And y’all know how much I love grovel. There are so many things I’m against but they somehow manage to make it work. And even if I don’t forgive the MMC entirely in the end, the stories are so well-written.

No grovel
So I keep hearing all this raving in the Facebook grovel page about this author and her great grovels. Several books in and no decent grovel yet. In fact almost no grovel. I feel like this is false advertising. 😂🤣😂🤣
not a single book boyfriend, not one man I would want to marry or love or even touch.
And yes I’m gonna keep going because if this damn author is writing all these great grovels I vow to find one. Even just ONE.

★★★. Honestly the mistaken identity didn’t bother me. The lying and protecting Cheryl over Penelope bothered me more. He didn’t grovel also. He just didn’t shut up once so

It was just ok. I wish Dutch would have been more honest in the beginning after accidentally asking Penelope out. The friend was a stuck up bitch and deserved to be bitch slapped to be honest, but I digress. Definitely not as angsty as I thought it'd be, but GroveltoHea did well showing the boyfriend's insecurities about his lower paid job compared to Penelope being a doctor. Showing that it didn't matter at all.

A little harsh to me, not my cup
The grovel was minimum, actually H left her alone “to figure things “ . I don’t like that at all.,
No cheating but unsafe, unpleasant
Not very romantic, actually at the beginning I didn’t see H very smitten for her…

*won’t be rating these books (or at least some of them) just because I have no idea how I feel about them lol not used to reading books where the asshole gets the girl. Kudos to the author for making me rage out on all the guys in these stories. Can’t stand any of the guys but some get redeemed in my eyes*

💜First person/Multi POV
💜OW drama(see below)
💜No cheating

That has to be a tough pill to swallow knowing your fiancé was planning on asking your roommate out that night, not you. That he slept with her the night before and wanted to continue seeing her but was met with you at the door instead. He only went out on that date because he felt guilty. Yes, he realized you were a much better choice within 5 minutes of the date and was happy it was you now, but dang.

After listening to him talking with the ex roommate, she is rightfully pissed/sad. He said some pretty hurtful things just to appease the OW and that just didn’t sit right with me. Basically implied she was ugly and that he wonders what it would have been like to be with the OW instead. He later ‘clears’ all this up by telling Penelope that he just says this to get her to back off basically.

Ex roommate tries to start some drama but gets quickly shut down by Dutch.

This was entertaining but the groveling was pretty disappointing...

(Dutch and Penelope have been together for 2 years and they're currently engaged) the story starts with Penelope overhearing a conversation Dutch was having with Cheryl (Penny's former roommate and Dutch's ex ONS) - Cheryl was telling him that she thought he liked her for a while after they slept together, he said that he did, that he had a huge crush on her, so she asked him why he never asked her out and he said that "he tried but made a huge mistake" he said that he came over to her apartment the day after they had sex to ask her on a date but he was drunk so he blurted out "I'm here to ask you out to dinner tomorrow night please put me out of my misery and say yes" but it was Penny who had answered the door, she accepted and instead of telling her the truth he said that he "felt he had to see it through because she was so excited"... they kept talking, he said some things to appease Cheryl (he didn't want Cheryl to tell Penny that they'd had a ONS because he didn't want to lose her) and said some other things that Penny took out of context...

Dutch tried to explain the things he'd said to Cheryl but Penny was pretty upset and ended up taking her ring off, Dutch told her that he was going to give her some time to think and that he was not giving up

they were apart just for a few days, both faithful

like I said the groveling was not very good, Dutch made too many mistakes, he was incredibly dumb but he really loved Penny

other info: Dutch knew of Penny when he slept with Cheryl, at the time he was a drunk and a hoe that's why he didn't pay much attention to Penny, because of his lifestyle he was more drawn to outgoing social girls (his attraction for Cheryl was superficial he never had feelings for her); he said that 5 minutes into his date with Penny he realized that her answering the door was the best thing that ever happened to him; he stopped whoring around and drinking like a fish after their first date; HFN ending -they're married

It was super shortttt .. I’m sad! It definitely addressed one of my deepest fears when it pertains to relationships. I really enjoyed the fact that the author held steady to the fact that they both had insecurities like, she FC wasn’t the only one hurt or wounded in the relationship and by the end of it they both had gotten their insecurities out and talked about! Also love Joan’s character although she almost lost me for a second there.. But overall another 5 star book!!

So, he was with her roommate first, and TWO YEARS later, he still hasn't told her and allowed her to remain in his social circle. And Dutch confirmed that he went ahead with the date with Penelope because he felt sorry for her. Poor Penelope was so interested in him... while he was having sex with her friend!!!

Short and sweet! Dutch said hurtful shit to the ex-roommate about Penelope...and Penelope over heard, but he said it out of fear of losing her. The groveling was sweet and they got their HEA.

Dutch accidentally knocks on the door, mistaking someone else’s presence, and asks her to join him for dinner. Until she heard him ask the intentional question, this mistake was the best thing he had done. He needs to do a lot of apologizing because she feels hurt and betrayed.

She gives back his ring to him, even though it’s clear he doesn’t want it. He constantly believed he was inferior to her, but she never shared that sentiment. Although he didn’t mean it to be mean, just a comment, it devastated her and he now acknowledges the wrongness of his actions.

He needs to show to her that what she heard should have been disclosed to her earlier instead of being kept a secret and shared with another woman. By giving the other woman power, he must now take it away and beg for forgiveness to prove his loyalty to her.

I absolutely adored this story and suggest giving it a read.
