NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Brett Battles delivers another suspense masterpiece in one of the year's most riveting international espionage thrillers. The world thought Dmitri Melnikov was dead. Especially Quinn. Why would he have believed otherwise, since the bomb intended for Melnikov had nearly killed Quinn and several members of his team? But Melnikov is not dead. He has been taken by someone who wants to shut him up. And the former chess champion isn’t the only one who has been abducted. US Intelligence can’t do anything about it. Not officially, anyway. The risk of causing an international incident is too great. What the agencies can do is ask someone who’d been there when Melnikov was kidnapped to do something for them. It’s not a normal mission for Quinn and his friends, and the chances they’ll all survive are slim, but this one is personal. So how can they say no? If you enjoy action-packed international espionage crime thrillers with high-stakes suspense, surprising plot-twists, and a cast full of unforgettable characters, then join millions of fans who love Battles’ novels and start devouring your next great read THE TAKEN now!

We have come a long way from The Cleaner, the first book about Jonathan Quinn by Brett Battles. The Taken is another fantastic thrilling adventure with the now so familiar group of characters so lovingly made up by the author. The book starts with a lot of abductions and a bang, and then we are off. I have loved this series since the start and although it took some time before this one was released it did not disappoint on the contrary, it is a fast paced ride of the wild kind and it's filled with witty dialogue between our heroes. I really recommend this series and you should also read the spinoff with Nate (The Night Man Chronicals) I hope there will be more of both in the near future.

Kidnapping

Quinn and his team ate both skilled and cocky so their missions ate both interesting and a bit witty. The characters are well developed and the ops well described.

Entertaining; amusing rescue in very remote Russia

These days, Russian bureaucrats become fictional buffoons while ordinary Russian citizens become honest friends. That works as a team sets out to find and retrieve good citizens who spoke out against the buffoons. Good that chemical darts replace deadly bullets. Interesting, international teamwork overcomes all barriers.

Another brilliantly written book from Brett.
Non stop action from page 1. What I love most is the interactions between the characters, I can see them all in my head. Great story which we all know could quite easily be true.
You won’t be disappointed with this book.

It has been a pretty long time since I was back in the Jonathan Quinn world. I think the last book that I can remember reading occurred in the middle of the pandemic (around 2020 I think) and the storyline mirrored what was going on in the world. Our gang took on a case and they were talking about being on the road when there were not any other cars on the road and how much harder it was to operate in stealth mode when there wasn't any other traffic - things like that... That was about 3 or 4 years ago so I was thrilled to see a new book available.

This time we start off with our team in the middle of completing an assignment. While they do their part and get the "package" away safely, there is a traitor in the FBI and things go very wrong. Fast forward a year later and Quinn and Orlando are approached with information that certain Russian ex-pats are being abducted or going "missing", kidnapped and being forcefully returned to Russia and one of these ex-pats is the former Russian Chess Champion that has a prior history with them.

And so it begins. Quinn and the team are tasked with rescuing certain prisoners. Not only do they have to discover "where" they are being held, they also have to infiltrate a hostile foreign country to do this. So, hold on to your hats, it is a wild ride.

What makes this series so fun to read is the wonderful cast of characters that we have come to know and love. We are 16 books in and at this point, we have extremely rich backgrounds and history with Quinn, Orlando, and Nate. Daeng and Jar are newer additions to the gang, but their characters have been so nicely fleshed out that they all work together like a well oiled machine. Jar especially, adds a bit of comic relief, though not necessarily intentionally.

This was another well written, action packed storyline that keeps the pace up throughout the entire book. I listened to this on audio and was pleasantly surprised to recognize Scott Brick as the narrator. I honestly can't remember if he narrated this series in the past, but he is one of my favorite narrators so it was a very nice surprise. As usual, the book was over much too quickly, and I am hoping that this is not the end of the series.

Finally, Quinn is back in “The Taken”…another great read from Brett Battles…It has been a really long time since the last Quinn book…but I think that it was worth the wait.

This is a great book for both new readers as well as for all existing fans of Brett’s great Jonathan Quinn thrillers.

Brett Battles has never disappointed me with the writing of the multiple book series he has created over the years…and this newest book, “The Taken”, is yet again another gem.

This one brings back memories of a disaster from the past, with many twists and turns as Quinn, Orlando, Nate, Jar and Daeng try to “right a wrong from the past”.

Hard to put down once you start reading. Quinn and associates (i.e., “The Office”) are hired to locate and rescue multiple characters who have been abducted and are being held in a remote facility. It is time to “make things right”.

Let’s see….back from the dead...Jar…hidden underground tunnels…Jar…”How would it work?” and then “Are you kidding?”...Jar...hobos on a train…a blizzard…did I mention Jar?

I continue to thoroughly enjoy the newest character in the Quinn and Night Man books, Jar. There is really no way to "explain" her...one can only "experience" her. To me, she is by far the most intriguing and funny character to date from Brett Battles.

I have enjoyed all of Brett’s books, beginning with the Jonathan Quinn series and continuing through the Project Eden series, The Excoms series, The Night Man series and others. I highly recommend every one of his more than 40 books.

As a fan of sci-fi in my teens, I was very happy to see Brett create an intriguing series about time travel with his 3-book “Rewinder” series. Great stuff!

Melnikov a former chess champion also anti Russia was dead or so the U S intelligence thought but the bomb that they thought killed him and a few of there own including Quinn and his team, was not so, but Quinn was wounded now after time is back to work, and it turns out that Melnikov was whisked away unseen and sent back to Russia and put in type of prison a building that very few knew about and this was an impenetrable style of building out of the way, isolated, but Melnikov was not the only one there in total 13 all anti Russia, and all kept separately to break them.
Quinn and his crew are cleaners any suspicious deaths that has occurred they would call in the cleaners Quinn and his crew do the job and nobody would know what had happened at any one time, murder blood etc these are the guys that do the cleaning.
Quinn has been asked if they would go to Russia and release these people out of the clutches of a lunatic. Getting into Russia is one job obvious not by the usual route, but Quinn promised Melnikov a safe passage in America and it did not happen so he feels obliged so not the usual job for the cleaners.
As with Brett Battles work of fiction it is an art but this could have really happen and Brett certainly can tell a story.
There is a lot of action and this team work well together but as with various people of the team they each have their own lives, will this be their last job? who knows.
Very well written and not for the faint hearted.

Batten down the hatches, it's going to be a bumpy and freezing ride! Quinn and his team are once again involved in an impossible but desperately necessary mission and failure is not in Quinn's vocabulary. There are the normal elements of action, suspense, nail-biting tension, abundant spy toys (that I just love), and wonderful characters. The more Jar develops her personality and learns to interact with people, the more I love her. She keeps the entire team on their toes, never knowing when her newly developed talent for sarcasm will show itself and proves her genius abilities over and over. Once again each member of the team has their part to play and they do it to perfection while always having everyone else's back. This is a true team in every sense of the word and Mr. Battles portrays that very well.
I highly recommend this series and if you haven't read any of them you need to check them out.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion.

Quinn and the team are back and I'm loving it! This was the series that got me hooked on Brett Battles! He has proven he can write wonderful books in different genres. The one thing all of his books have in common is his ease of descriptive writing and engaging stories that pull you in and don't let you go. I have a difficult time putting any of his books down and The Taken is right there up there with them!

This book does not disappoint! Such a blast from the past with some twists! Makes me want to start the series over again. Brett Battles has such a great gift for storytelling and you really feel pulled into the story and you become attached to the characters. Well rounded characters and his women are strong and represented well.

I recommend Brett Battles to everyone, regardless of what genre you love reading. All of his books are so engaging and you'll have a tough time putting any of them down.

Brett Battles

The Team That Plays Tricks Together Sticks Together . . . and, boy, am I glad to see them again.

'The Taken' deals with what is likely the most complex assignment yet for Quinn's Quintet. But Battles never makes the mistake of allowing the strategy and tactics overwhelm the book's inherent readability. Where details are required, they are present and comprehensible. Where simplicity will serve, that's Battles' chosen path. The story moves quickly across half the world.
The characters, new and familiar, remain human even when sketched economically. This is one of Brett Battles' great strengths as a novelist.
You will not be bored by reading 'The Taken' by Brett Battles. I promise you.

Of all of Brett Battles' novels and series, the Quinn (The Cleaner) series is what pulled me in and keeps me reading. This latest novel in the series does not disappoint. With a story that could be taken directly from today's headlines, it's current, it's action-packed, and as usual, filled with sensory details and solutions that will keep you intrigued.

If you haven't read any novels in the series, this one can stand on its own with plenty of suspense, solid character development, well-drawn settings, and a story that will keep you turning pages. If you have read the series so far, you'll enjoy the interactions between characters, the developing series' storylines for individual characters, their backstory and growth.

Great read. Kept me reading late into the night.

When I finished book 15 in this series, The Vanished, I just knew there had to be a sequal. With that ending the author couldn’t possibly be so cruel as to end things with that cliffhanger. It took quite a while but at long last, MR. Battles has delivered the rest of that adventure with The Taken. At the end of the Vanished we found out the person they were rescueing wasn’t in fact dead. In this book, Quinn and his team are brought in to conduct a super secret rescue mission in the heart of Russia. They must infiltrate a prison that doesn’t exist and liberate 6 people covertly snatched by the Russian government who weren’t happy with their criticism of that administration. This had all the action and cat and mouse strategy as well as the sarcastic banter I love.

Storyline: 5 stars
Narration: 5+ stars

It was a thrill to finally listen to The Taken, and most recent Jonathan Quinn edition. Right out of the gate I was reminded how much I love each and every one of these genius, hilarious, and fearless characters.

The only problem is that these books are so good they seem to end almost as soon as I have started listening. Of course, that's understandable, with the masterful Scott Brick narrating from behind the microphone.

As if the brutal mission the team has been tasked with wasn't intense enough, the ultimate shocker came at the very end when Mr. Battles springs a major life change for one these amazing characters on us. Please, say it isn't so.

Many, many thanks to both Brett and Scott for the countless hours of blissful escapism Quinn and friends have given me over the years. Please keep 'em coming!

I have missed Quinn and was happy to see this book released. It was a fast paced, entertaining read. I’m not sure I buy the premise of the Russians just locking up the dissidents forever considering all of the real-world accidents Russian dissidents seem to have, but that is just one of the small things to take with a grain of salt. I do think Jar’s hacking skills are over the top, but any reader will know this book isn’t intended to be realistic. Overall, I enjoyed the book but I hope the Quinn series gets back to him and Nate doing more cleaning jobs. I think that is what made this series unique. I also would prefer less Jar and Orlando in future stories.

Quinn and his team are back again, with another fast-paced international thriller, this one involving Russian skullduggery. "The Taken" has all of the hallmarks of a Quinn novel: a Mission Impossible type caper, lots of adventure with a restrained body count, and a band of complementary heroes. Like any good book series, the characters become like your own family, and it's fun to see them change and grow.

Brett Battles is one of the best in the thriller business, and this is another success.

89-2023. I’m a fan of Mr. Battles, and I’ve read all of this series of books, as well as most of the spin-off series and other new characters. This adventure certainly had all the usual trademarks of careful planning and righteous reasoning for taking on the job, but the team is just a little too perfect. They suffer Mary a slip as they do justice and such. It’s too easy for them nowadays. Mind you, the writing is good, and the tech is fun, and the heroes are well drawn, but…

Not sure I’ll be back for these folks.

Quinn and associates are usually called in for cleanup but can get sucked into even more. This time they are called in as basically a covert force to free detainees in Russia. Different than most Quinn books. If you are a Quinn follower, you should like this book very much. If you haven't read any Quinn books before, it does a good job of not really needing to know all the backstories. Should keep you reading until its done. Another good one by Battles.

Can’t get enough of the Team!

I have read every Quinn novel and rate this one of Battles’s best.

All the hreat characters are back as a team to thwart Russia’s plan to silenci its opposition. FBI and CIA are involved. They want to carry off a very difficult mission and come to Quinn and Orlando for help.

The often laugh out loud repartee and great characters in a life and death countdown keeps you turning the page.

Thank you, Brett, for another fantastic read!

Our heroes are no longer "cleaners" but have branched out into rescuers as well. They're tasked with rescuing a man from a Russian modern, high-tech, isolated prison where no one is ever supposed to see the light of day again. Need I mention that we're talking Siberian weather with blizzards and sub- zero temps? The tech savvy and unbelievable luck in this novel cause you to raise your eyebrows, but it's the kind of novel where you're rooting for the good guys and it can be entertaining.

You're in for an exciting trip when Jonathan Quinn and his team travel to Russia to rescue Russian dissidents who have been kidnapped in America and taken to a Russian prison. The odds of accomplishing this mission and even surviving are highly stacked against them. This series is one of my all-time favorites and this thriller by Brett Battles gives you plenty of action and suspense. Also, I love the surprise character at the end of the novel.

I have read all of Brett Battles' books and the Quinn series is my favorite. Needless to say, I had high hopes for The Taken, the newest installment in the series. I was not disappointed. The Taken is exciting enough that I finished it at 3 am! I really liked the humorous banter among the characters, which offset the edge-of-your-seat tension of the storyline. Another winner!

Another solid addition to the Jonathan Quinn series. All your favourite characters are back for this action packed adventure that leads them to the middle of nowhere in Russia during one of the worst snow storm in years. It’s a very different mission for Quinn and his team of cleaners but one they have the skills for. This book is classic Brett Battles and you won’t want to put it down.

Terrific series, wish it did not have to end!

I have read all 16 books in this terrific series. I really enjoyed seeing Quinn grow into his job and the introduction of Orlando, Nate, Deago And all of the others. Do yourself a favor and start with book one and read the series in order. You will be glad you did.

A “Jonathan Quinn” Novel Is Always Worth The Wait!

A well conceived plot line, filled with all the action one could ask for, defines “The Taken”.

This is book 16 in this series so if this is your first exposure then I recommend you put it aside, and start with book #1. You will understand after you’ve read the first 15 books.

I Highly Recommended This Book.

That was interesting.

It's been a while since I read a Quinn book. Brett took his story arc in an odd direction over the last couple of books, but looks like Quinn is back to be a super agent with gadgets that have incredible wifi ranges and battery life. This book was OK, it was a normal spy thriller in Quinn's universe.

Fantastic!

Once again, I spend months in anticipation for a Quinn book to drop. I download it within hours of release... And then can't stop reading until I'm finished. And now the interminable wait begins for the next one... Please, Mr. Battles, there WILL be a next one, yes???
