Who will become the new minister of Grace Chapel? The church board can't stop squabbling, and every week the congregation hears a sermon from a different minister. Finally, a charming man is appointed to take over the pulpit, but the townspeople offer him a chilly reception. During his stay at the inn, the sisters slowly warm up to him. But will he win over the townsfolk - and Aunt Ethel - as well? Available only in Christian Fiction 6 & 8.
I wasn't sure if Iwould continue to read this series, but decided to pick the second one up. So glad I did. I adsolutely couldn't put it down. Sweet, touching, funny, sad, and all with a couple of twist and turns that have you guessing right up until the very end. Love how the characters have developed and how each story line interwines. Will definately pick up then next in the series. I have fallen in love with Acorn Hill and Grace Chapel Inn.
Three sisters run the Acron Hill inn, their father the town’s minister has recently died. They are on the church council trying to find a new minister. They finally pick one but the town gives him a chilly reception. While he is staying at the Inn the sisters start to like him but they don’t know if they can win the town over. A nice story.
What a nice change! I really like gritty mysteries, and relationship books where someone is always doing something terrible to someone else, but this second book in the Grace Chapel series, is a wonderful read about reasonable people, with normal issues in a small town.
Three sisters have decided to run a bed and breakfast in their father's huge old home, right beside the Grace Chapel Church where their father was the minister for years before his death last year. Aunt Ethel had lived with her brother, helping with his ministry, ever since his wife died when the three sisters were younger. Now they need to hire a new minister, but no one seems to satisfy Aunt Ethel, who seems to want a clone of their dear dead father.
Interviewing pastors come to town, and one seems to grow in popularity as he deftly, and Godly, helps in numerous developing situations within the community. Such a pleasure to return to the best in small town life, where people find their answers with Biblical teachings. The characters are very believable with their faults and individual dealings. Really enjoying this Grace Chapel series written by various Christian authors, and published by Guideposts.
This is a mini ‘Books For Christian Girls’ review. It is not a full content review and will not receive one. These mini-reviews are years old and just for clarity on the rating the book received on Goodreads.
3/129/2013- "I enjoyed this book with it's sweet story-line and trio of funny sisters."
As I said in my previous review of the first book, "Back Home Again," I inherited some of these books from my late grandmother, and they have become a safe place for my mind to escape to. A charming and sweet little town in Pennsylvania called Acorn Hill. Where we follow the lives of three sisters and their aunt who converted their childhood home into a Bed and Breakfast inn after their father passed away.
This book, like the first, had me crying at different spots in the book, especially the last chapter. This one is mostly from Alice's POV, and I love seeing how she continues to try and move on after her father's death, as it affected her possibly more than her sisters since she lived with him for most of her life. Their father was the pastor at the church and now it is time to select a new one, but no one can quite agree. Then comes in knight in shining white collar, Kenneth Thompson. He's just so great! The best choice to be the new pastor, but never replacing Daniel Howard (their father) all at the same time. He's charismatic, smart, well-dressed, selfless, good heart and still very relatable with his thoughts. I loved his presence in the book, because no matter what animosity he faced or what bad situations came up, he made me feel like it was all going to be okay and work out. And I loved seeing how his relationships with each of the sisters developed.
Didn't enjoy this second read in Grace Chapel Inn. Aunt Ethel seems the most natural to read about but unfortunately her part is minimal. The three sisters just seem too formal for any reading pleasure. The author introduced Alzheimer's and Cancer into this read and I don't care for the sadness that these diseases bring; they are so prevalent in the world today why would I want to relax with a book and read about them and their effects? I enjoyed Henry and Fred and their small parts and the banter of the church board in the beginning of this read; but a pastor is chosen by the 3rd chapter so it's really not about finding a new pastor as the back of the book suggests. The book just wasn't fun to read.
this was a good clean book and I liked the story..has to do with 3 sister Louise,Jane & Alice who run the Grace Chapel Inn which was originally their childhood home before their father Daniel the pastor of the Grace Chapel Church passed away now along with their Aunt Ethel they seem to be dealing with a dilema of who will become the new pastor of their church..everyone has their opinion and so finally they chose a young man by the name of Reverand Thompson..some people like him and others don't but in the end turns out he is the best person for the job..along the way the ladies have issues with stuff miss or being moved around as well as their own personal problems to deal with...it was a good book with a good ending for everyone a must read if u like christian books :)
I liked reading from the POV of all 3 sisters in this one. It gave them more depth than in the first book.
There was even a little bit of a mystery with some missing household items. I didn't quite figure out what was going on with the vase until almost the end.
This is a good read for someone who is really busy and just needs a moment at night to decompress and feel better. Its easy to pick up and put down and easy to read one chapter, or even part of a chapter, and then go to sleep.
Love this series from Guideposts. This follows the lives and times of three sisters who return to their family home in the small town of Acorn Hill after the death of their father who was the lead pastor at Grace Chapel, one of the local churches. After reuniting at the father's funeral, the sisters decide to remain together in Acorn Hill and turn the family home into a bed and breakfast. This is a story of small town life, community, familial love and faith. The cast of characters is made up of the town folk, a varied and close knit group. I find the stories to be warm and uplifting.
A sweet simple story and for anyone who has dealt with the mixes of personalities in churches, true to life. After the death of Acorn Hill's dear pastor, no one can fill his shoes. Three sisters run the local Inn and get to meet the pastoral candidates up close and personal. They are a great picture of the support sisters can offer each other. The pastoral candidate, Kenneth Thompson, grows on even those who reject him. A nice, gentle story full of Christian virtue.
I enjoyed this book. We are in the same situation in our church. I see many of the same "parishners " .. the names have been changed. It was also good to follow the three sisters and the challenges they face.
Pastor Thompson is the kind of man that seems too good to be true. Yet, he was true. I was both spell bound and angered by the way the church board fought over his installment as pastor. It made me thankful that priests are just simply assigned to a parish in my faith.
Even better than the first. I totally loved this continuation of the story of the Howard sisters' lives and their inn. Throw in the people who cross their paths and you have a lovely assortment of characters.
Excellent book. Kept my attention from page one to the last page. There are good lessons to learn within the pages and it is like I am living in Acorn Hill and getting to know each individual who lives there.
Loved this second book as much as the first in the Grace Chapel Inn series. Although written by a different author than the first book, the continuity of the different character personalities was great.
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. They are written by different authors but the stories are interconnected. Anyone who enjoys good, heartwarming stories will enjoy them.
