Delta Sundén is on a desperate mission to save her failing photography career by any means necessary. After spending an entire month trekking through the Mongolian wilderness, she embarks on a final journey to southern China in search of the Nakhi falconers, the ultimate subject to complete her portfolio. However, she discovers more than just the perfect shot when her curiosity leads her into an arranged marriage proposal by a Death Matchmaker.
Wú Yufei was a lively, outgoing, and grounded young man with a promising future. Surrounded by a loving family and friends, he eagerly embraced life's adventures. However, his light was tragically extinguished one fateful night. Now, all he wants is to ensure his family can move on from their grief without him. But his spirit is unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight by powerful ancient magic.
When fate brings these two together— in the form of a peculiar red envelope— the mysteries of the universe are revealed. Delta, Yufei, and his eccentric grandmother must repair their relationships, rectify their mistakes, and navigate some of the world’s oldest superstitions to break the bonds that tie them together before it's too late. But what will the newlyweds do when these bonds become a love they are willing to risk everything for?
Really loved the concept of this book! I was drawn into to the plot right away finding out what was going on with Delta and how she was chosen to marry a ghost. This was certainly unique! I think what I enjoyed the most as I continued reading was the love the family had for each other. This element of Chinese culture was very well done and made the story that much more heart-warming. The characters were all likeable, honestly, unless they weren't meant for the reader to like. I also enjoyed the description of the scenery and Chinese customs throughout. I think really my only negative thought was that the middle did feel a little long, in my opinion. I just felt there were a few chapters that maybe could have been condensed so that some of the plot didn't get lost. However, as things progressed towards the end, I was pulled back in and was very happy with how the story wrapped up! I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this ARC early!
Omggggggg I cannot express how much I loved this book. The characters, the world building, the story, everything!! It was phenomenal I couldn’t put it down. Also can I just say the little sprinkling of references was one of my favorite things about this book. Ghost Files, kpop, and many other references just made Delta feel a bit more relatable at least to me. And Yufei has such golden retriever energy that just works, I don’t how else to say it lol. I feel like some books try and push the “golden retriever energy” too much but this was beautifully done and felt so natural. I just absolutely loved everything about this book.
Chapter one has me really intrigued that I can’t stop reading. Death Matchmakers?! Whaat?! This book really knows how to hit you emotionally. You go from feel heartbroken and hurt to feeling happy and feeling the love. Delta and Yufei, so cute as a couple but can they be a couple? Not me balling my eyes out reading chapter 19 😭 the ending was amazing. Love this book and everything it had. Can’t wait to read more, maybe a sequel!
This is an incredibly unique and emotional rom-com that will take you on an adventure with its loveable characters. It's not only a fresh idea, but it's filled to the brim with so much beautiful culture and an intriguing situation. There's also some great representation--not just culture, but queer as well. I can't wait for the second book!
In this book there was a lot of twist and turns when you think you figured it out.. you didn’t! I loved the emotions of all the characters! This books suck you in to the point you won’t be able to put down the book at all!!
Struggling photographer Delta unwittingly winds up married when she picks up a mysterious red envelope on the ground - the only catch? The groom is already dead.
This book’s description IMMEDIATELY caught my eye when I first saw it, and I knew I had to jump at the chance to read it. And it does not disappoint in the least! Comedic, genuine, and at times emotionally devastating - this book has it all.
I loved every second of this book, and once I started reading I could NOT put it down! The romance was so well-done (and certain parts absolutely made me cry!) that I will absolutely be re-reading this in the future to experience it again. I cannot wait for the sequel, and I will be one of the first to grab it the second it’s available.
We follow Delta as she navigates a grieving family and the dead husband she has accidentally acquired in the process. Can she keep her heart guarded enough to keep from falling in love with her already “death-do-us-parted” husband? Or will she have to accept heartache as the only ending to this doomed romance when her ghostly husband finally passes on to the next life?
This book is for anyone searching for a romantic comedy that perfectly balances the line between hilarious and heartfelt, and which has you desperately hoping for that happily ever after we all dream about.
A HUGE thank you to the author for providing me a digital ARC! (I loved this book so much I preordered a physical copy when I was only 50% through as I already knew I loved this book!)
My initial reaction after finishing this book: I wish I could eat this book. I love it. (And I still stand by this, 1000%.)
I could not put this down. Absolutely phenomenal. I was hooked from the first chapter; I get invested in characters, especially when there's such solid development. So I felt the rollercoaster of emotions every step of the way, being completely absorbed in the story. If you're wondering if it's worth reading, take my advice and read the first chapter. It will suck you on and suddenly it'll be 3am before you know it, having you question whether it's worth an all nighter (it is). I won't share any spoilers, but you'll fall in love over and over with this unique, one of a kind story from this equally one of a kind author.
