Hearts of the last men

Rate this book
Our world, as often argued upon, was built on the power of men. Men in the form of kings, leaders and dictators. But what if the world had never seen the rise of masculine power, what if the thrones were left empty to be taken by women.

Would it be a better world to live in? Or is there something inherent about power that corrupts regardless?

Explore this alternative reality from the perspective of Sav and Sil. A couple who have been split apart and thrown into the perils of their world. As the layers of their society begin to peel away, will they find peace? Will they reunite?

Having known Syed Bashaar only from his insanely funny reels on Instagram, all that I expected from his first book Hearts of The Last Men was a decent story with a touch of his knowledge in philosophy.

Man was I wrong.

The world that Syed has so spectacularly built is rooted, as in the real world, in ideas. The ideologies embedded in the book is not merely to provide a premise for a story so our heroes can shine. It's the literal base of the world, the systems, and the thoughts of the land he has created. Syed has made this kingdom from scratch. And it feels no less authentic than if you picked up your history books.

I'm going to be completely honest, some people could be irked by the editor's work in this novel. We encounter grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, formatting mistakes here and there. But this does NOT take away from this story he has weaved through the lives of people from different backgrounds and from different experiences.

Overall, I could not put down the book. The story keeps gripping you, making you ask for more.

It's a great story set in an amazing world. The author doesn't take it on himself to label characters as good or evil. They're a result of their ideas. It's upto you to determine who's soul isn't tainted.

Thanks Syed for this treat!

“Hearts of the Last Men” is an extremely fascinating fictional story that seamlessly blends drama, action, and adventure. Within its pages lie intriguing snippets of wisdom that prompted me to reflect on our society and the evolving roles of men and women.

This captivating journey immerses readers in a world where “humor” is taught as a language, and women not only fight alongside the army but also lead it. It’s a realm where men openly acknowledge their weaknesses while taking pride in their strengths—some saving the land with physical might, others with healing words.

All the character sketches are well-crafted, and the entire story plot reflects the writer’s diligent work and thorough research. This has convinced me that we have a promising author whose contributions to this genre will be significant.

However, in the beginning few pages I noticed some editing errors which was a little disappointing (that's why 4 stars else it's a solid 5 star) Despite this, the book shows promise, and I eagerly await the next release in the series.

Ah it's a very good story, the descriptions and revelations are so descriptive, vivid and exciting!

Syed Bashar you bought me - a historical/ contemporary fictional reader to become a fantasy fiction girl. Thanks.

My favorite line from the book: "My mother was right. Someday I was bound to be at my Wues'oah. And I can either choose the way of the men or the way that my heart guides me to"
You will understand it's meaning when you read it so pleaseeee read this. I assure you you will love it 🫰

/Edited the review after re reading the book. You need to be a fantasy fictional reader to understand the excellence of this story. I read Hafsah Faizal's book (We hunt the flame) after I read this book, and that's when I could appreciate his work even more. /
