The school festival may be over, but there's no time to relax as a series of mysterious happenings takes Serendia Academy by storm. As winter break approaches, food begins to disappear, a lost girl turns up at school, students start seeing ghostly balls of fire, and the second prince gets wrapped up in a suspicious spell. It's unclear how much danger they're in, but Detective Monica and her mystery-loving partner Nero are determined to get to the bottom of whatever's going on-better safe than sorry, as they say!
These filler stories were a nice breather after all the tension in the previous volume, and before the inevitable chaos that’s about to unfold in the next one.
I can't say much of it really held my attention—some of the side stories had me putting the book down for long stretches—but it's worth reading if you want to learn more about the side characters.
This volume proves that anything written in this universe is bound to be delightful. A series of short stories and lightly connected events that showcase our main character’s best and not so ideal sides. My favorite was definitely the first story with the three sages, Monica, Ray, and Louis interacting, but the story with the lost little girl and her spirit guardian is a close second. Monica and Felix’s quest for some secretive reading time in the library was also a masterful display of the novel’s tongue and check humor on full display. A great way to give some breathing room to the main story and add even more depth to those already lovely characters.
This is definitely a filler-filled novel of sorts, but the author did say they wanted to write slice of life scenarios. It did highlight more the personalities of the characters, but I missed the plot-driven scenes hahaha. Still it was cute. The recurring scenes of Felix randomly feeding Monica with baked goods, which the Silent Witch munches on almost always absentmindedly, were too damn cute and funny hahaha.
Well, back to reading the main novels now and I’ve gleaned major revelations will be revealed 🤭
Prologue: Louis, Monica, Ray reseal grimoires at the Haymes-Nalia Library, hidden room behind a bookcase (Rebecca Roseburg)
Case I: Felix asks Monica to keep watch as he secretly reads a book in the library (a book she’s written as the Silent Witch), Felix fails to read the essay
Case II: Glenn was accused of stealing meat (Nero was the true culprit), Cyril gets hurt, they find a little girl who turns out to be Macragan’s granddaughter.
Case III: Benjamin falls in “love” and gets rejected by Claudia, he is in a writing slump, Elliot helps him get of his slump, they go the bazaar, tragic love story about a nobleman and a maid, rumors start that there is a ghost in the old dorms, Ben, Elliot and Monica go investigate, turns out it was Ryn and Byron Garrett, president of the magic-battle club, who was secretly practice his mage craft, that started the rumors. Neil tells Ben that Claudia is his fiancée and he proposes a duel (yay Neil).
Case IV: A shamanic tome from the Haymes-Nalia Library had found its way into Serendia Academy and for some reason, a curse meant to interfere with a target’s dreams was spreading as a charm to see the person you love in your own. Embroidery club. Cecily read Ray Albright’s pink ‘My First Charm’ book and Wanda tore a paper out of a grimoire. Isabelle ends the conflict peacefully.

I liked this a lot. Because it sits outside the mainline stories, they're a lot lower-stakes and more slice of life. Although they're all separate short stories, little threads from one will turn up in another, and overall, it was a fun read.
I read this out of order because my library didn't have volume 4 yet, and I didn't care if there were spoilers. Turns out, there were no spoilers other than, at that big event they were planning in book 4, things happened. (Cue minor key trumpets.) So that was fine.
The one who surprised me in this story was Isabella. I detested her in the first book because she seemed so overdone and just ridiculous, like she couldn't read the room. Here (and in volume 3) she is an amazing ally, has incredible social sense, and proves she *could* be a villainess if she ever wanted to, and yet she doesn't have the slightest inclination toward doing so. In Book 3 when she handled the belladonna incident, you could see it there, but in her story in this book, she absolutely shines. I was impressed.
Cute slice-of-life style that fits between Vols 4 and 5. Also, the writer saying it could have been called Vol 4, fragment, but she misunderstood "fragment" to be "flamingo" LOL 😭
Anyway, it was really cute! A bit of a break from the main story, but some stories are pretty draggy and made me put down the book for a bit. Particularly, Elliot and Benjamin's case.
Isabelle's story made it up for it after though. She's so cute LOL. And Lana as well.
This has to be the funniest collection. Louis is (yes a man whose moral compass is a roulette whell) a SIMP. Felix is also a simp xD and his subtle jealousy of Cyril and Monica is just too cute. and okay Cyril liking animals and getting decieved by fluffy coats is another heart-melting thing. Monica, omg, she is rabbit meal xD.
A very silly set of mysteries taking place between v4 and v5. I love learning more about her “villainess” “sister” who is helping her build her cover. What a cute family!
I enjoyed the additional characterizations for some of the side characters, but I'm starting to feel like the series is lagging a bit behind on plot progression at vol. 4 + this.
