A Photine Fortier Mystery #1

Missing on the Bluff

Rate this book
Newly minted by a near death experience, a middle-aged woman must solve a man’s disappearance while sleuthing out the right shoes for her new life.

What do you do when you’ve hit rock bottom? The first thing you stumble on by investigating a missing man for his distraught mama and making a friend or two along the way.

When Photine Fortier, looking for purpose and new shoes, happens upon a woman distraught over her missing grown son, Photine offers to check up on him at The Grand Hotel in Memphis where he works. She finds herself knee deep in stake outs and quirky characters. What better way to distract herself from the fact she is at a complete loss of where to start rebuilding her life after her divorce.

The police think the son’s a no-good liar. Her best friend hopes Photine has stumbled across a mystery. Photine just wants to find her calling and a little quiet strength. And maybe lose the flip flops.

Meanwhile, being blacklisted from grocery stores across Memphis is proving to be a real challenge. Are anger management classes around the corner? Or can she distract her way to a peaceful and calm state? Or is her best friend right, is it hot flashes and hormones?

A pushy best friend, a new circle of friends and an estranged Dad might give her just the kind of support she needs to get through. After hitting rock bottom, newly divorced Photine Fortier, who is pushing close to forty, needs to reinvent her life before it’s too late.

As Photine's Mamaw would say, Lord rest her soul, "No slutty situations here, nor runnin' rampant with cussing and blessing." Well, maybe a little bit of blessing because this is the South. A well placed, "Bless your heart" to make a girl feel about as big as a speck of dirt is always included.

I can't remember a time when I didn't love mysteries. The addiction started with Agatha Christie's books and Hercule Poirot on BBC's Mystery. I, also, love what a person has to go through to become who they are. So, when I'm not writing about a person who has had to start from scratch building a career in sleuthing, I binge watch whatever mystery television series I can when my husband hasn't taken over the TV watching football and basketball.
My goal in writing my books is to give people a fun adventure with a light side of real life and all the relationships that hold us together.
At the least, I hope my books make you smile and laugh. At the most, I hope I inspire you to venture out into the unknown trusting what you're capable of and understanding, like my character Photine Fortier, that it can be a bumpy ride but it sure is worth it.
I write to prevent my 100-year-old-self from saying, "I never showed myself what I was truly capable of."

I read this as a personal read. I love Kenna Campbell mysteries. I was raised by Southern women, so with all the southern sayings it felt like I was talking to family. Amateur sleuth Photine Fortier has her first case. Photine just like the rest of us has her weak moments, and like any other southern "Great Big Strong Moments". She is searching for a missing man, his mother asked her to help find him. The mother is ill and time is a factor for finding Ryan her missing son. With a whole lot of gumption and help from her crazy friends their is always an adventure around the corner. The book will make you laugh, and want to make you want to kick the bad guys butt. I highly recommend this read, it's very well written and very entertaining.

What a fun little mystery! I would definitely read more books from Kenna Campbell. I won this read from the goodreads giveaways, and now I will probably be buying more from this series. I'm afraid I need to find out what mystery "The Bluff City B" will get herself into next. #missingonthebluff

Cute easy fun read

I really enjoyed this roller-coaster mystery. Photine goes on a rampage of self rediscovery while searching for a young man at the request of his mother. I enjoyed the side characters as much as the main characters. The story flows at a fun and engaging pace, but, grammar police will find a lot of distractions so be aware. I will definitely be reading more books in this series. I can't wait to see what other mischief Photine is going to get into.

This book was so much fun! Watching Photine grow from “Mouse” to “B” was enriching and a little bit self-indulgent. Her friends, old and new, are adorable. Her brain works in mysterious but productive ways. I look forward to reading more adventures with her!

I love that the fmc isn't some 20-something wait. Pho is an interesting FMC. Received as a goodreads giveaway and really enjoyed this book.

Photine: Dedicated Detective

Photine could be a McGyver. She is unconventional. She finishes what she starts with any tools at hand. Unusual solutions are regularly the only way out.
She's smart but unique. Plenty of unexpected twists.
Looking forward to more adventures.

I won this book on Goodreads. It started off really slow for me. Even though I live in Mississippi and am very familiar with the locations she mentions around the Memphis area I didn’t feel fully connected to it. I did enjoy it more by the end and will at least try the 2nd one.
