Chloe thought she and her husband Lucas shared no secrets, but when she opens the box hidden under the floorboard and finds the fake documents, she knows her husband is hiding something from her.
As much as she wants to know the truth, she can’t confront Lucas about it, so she embarks on a secret investigation. The deeper she digs, the more unsettling things she unearths, and the illusion of the lie she’s been living crumbles with revelation.
Chloe is faced with a terrible Seeking the truth comes with a cost, and it could result in losing far more than just her marriage.
"Boris is my favorite author on Nosleep, he's always killing it with his stories!" "The security guard series is the best one ever!!" "I love the subtle connection between each story." "Like R.L. Stine, but better." "I want to see this book as a Netflix mini-series!" "No one can scare me like Boris."
Both traditionally and self-published, Boris is a prolific writer whose horror novels often find themselves on the #1 bestselling ranks. With the books he has published, he is quickly becoming a big name in the horror community.
His stories have been narrated by famous YouTube and podcast narrators, including MrCreepypasta, CreepsMcPasta, DrCreepen, etc. His book, Tales of a Security Guard, is currently in the works to become a short film.
I really enjoyed how this jumped right in from the first page. Our lead, Chloe, was enamored with her husband, Lucas, but also very suspicious of him at the same time. Boris Bacic perfectly captured this woman’s plight and emotional rollercoaster from the very start through the very bitter end. And probably the most unnerving part of the story was how oddly calm and reassuring Lucas was, as Chloe continually kept digging deeper into his uncertain past. But, boy, did Chloe have a ton of moxie here. However, as with most psychological thrillers, the ending spun a bit out of control, but it was fine and would most likely tickle the fancy of avid fans of the genre. The pacing could have been slowed a bit, especially with the number of events that happened, but it was also a nice experience to not have a 300-page book to go through. Not sure the content would have kept my attention for that long. Again, though, aside from all the critiques here, Chloe was kept in the spotlight and she was written very well, which made everything work so well.
Suspenseful, with a thrilling climax. Loved the ending, even if some of the plot was a tad outrageous 😅 Unfortunately, I did figure out the twists early on, but still highly entertaining. I couldn’t put it down!
Interesting little short story! It starts with a bang and continues to go more mysterious. Then, you have to question the reality of the situation. I read it in a few short hours.
Fast paced story! It's amazing how people can fake the entire relationship for personal gain. Really felt bad for Chloe .. how her entire life was a lie... worst possible nightmare. Good read. Recommended!!
Not My Husband is a fast-paced, addictive domestic thriller that’s perfectly designed (at only 126 pages) to be devoured in a single sitting! Its combination of marriage drama, identity mystery, and high-tension twists will keep you guessing and furiously flipping pages!
The story follows Chloe, who believes she and her husband, Lucas, have a perfect marriage—until she finds a hidden box beneath the floorboards containing secrets of Lucas’s past. Chloe doesn’t confront him immediately but instead starts a secret investigation into his past. As she digs deeper, she unearths disturbing truths and begins to wonder if the life she believed in might have been a lie all along!
Chloe is at the heart of the story—she's initially loving, trusting, and perhaps a little too naive. When she discovers the contents of the box, she’s temporarily frozen by fear, confusion, and feelings of betrayal—but she quickly firms her resolve into finding out the truth—taking readers down the rabbit hole with her! Her inner monologues are very emotional and believable, making the story even more compelling! Meanwhile, Lucas hovers in the background, calm and unnervingly reassuring, giving readers a sense of impending doom! The secondary characters who Chloe encounters are more plot devices than anything else, but they all add something—whether it be more clues or red herrings—leading to "aha" moments or to readers shaking their heads later on!
Because the book is short, the pacing is relentless—the opening chapters jump right into the "box" drama and identity mystery, and from there, the tension steadily rises! The midsection is where Chloe digs deep into her investigations, and revelations arrive one after another—shaking the ground beneath her feet and keeping readers guessing! The climax is intense and delivers a twist that readers won’t see coming—changing everything you thought you knew was real! Some may find it a bit over-the-top, but for big fans of addictive popcorn thrillers, the ending will hit hard!
Overall, Not My Husband is a highly entertaining and compact, fast-paced thriller! It’s perfect for a weekend binge-read or for anyone who loves stories that mess with your head and leave you questioning what’s real!
Author Boris Bacic has captured the nightmare of being someone who can't tell what is real. This psychological thriller is excellent. Is the missing person who has suddenly returned, the person you loved or a sadistic killer? Are they the same person? You begin to question everything. You question your sanity. You question the people around you. Is their anyone you can trust? -Mr.Bill
Chloe is madly in love with her husband, Lucas who is the best husband a woman can dream of - until she finds out that it's only an illusion and her life is in danger. I was absolutely staggered after reading this book. The story is heartbreaking and haunting in addition to being rivetting. The twist at the end is unexpected.
2.5 stars downgraded to 2 because of the "instant" genetic testing. Clearly not something that can really happen.
This book was so ridiculous that it defies description. The beginning was ok, and the premise of a husband hiding something was fine. And then it went completely insane.
I did finish it (probably because it was an incredibly short book at 126 pages.). Still shaking my head.
2.5 stars. It was predictable quite early but I feel like it still could have worked had the psychological games been expanded upon and drawn out. This is a horrifying situation and I felt that the opportunity to create real suspense and immersion for the reader was wasted by making this such a short story.
Chloe has the perfect marriage to her husband, Lucas. Then she finds something he has kept hidden from her. What secrets is he hiding? What happened when he was lost years ago? Can you trust the one you love? Tension filled suspenseful read.
A husband and wife have a great life until the wife finds something hidden in his office and the secrets from his past are found out and he isn't who he says he is. Lots of twists and turns! Read in a few hours!
This is almost more of a mystery than a thriller, except for the final few pages. "Who is her husband exactly and what is he up to?" is the question at the heart of it. A short suspenseful novel/novella. 3.5 stars.
Lots of twists and turns. Basic has a good writing style and the books I've read have all been good suspense, somewhat psychological thrillers. For a quick read, I recommend this book to get a feel for this authors writing style.
I totally loved this book, and I had no idea what was going on. So many times I wondered if I knew what the outcome would be, right up until the end and boy was I wrong. I told you that you had a new fan Boris Bacic, and I wasn't kidding. Great read!
This was good. I can't imagine being in someone like Chloe's shoes. Or Lucas's for that matter. This short story was fast-paced and kept your attention the whole time four out of five stars
That book was outstanding!!! I never, ever, ever could have imagined how it would end !!! I have my suspicions but they were soooo wrong !!! It’s a beautiful, full of grief and anger book that you can’t put down because you are stuck in your chair wanting to know the whole story !!!
OMG…what a crescendo at the end! Just like you see in the movies. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though it’s short it is very well written. Just when you think you know where it’s going, it changes.
While I loved the premise of this book, I really wished the psychological aspect of it was more drawn out. I felt like things were very predictable and came to fruition very quickly. I think it could have been potentially an edge of my seat read if given a bit longer of a time-line.
you can't convince me this wasn't written by freida mcfadden. and if it wasn't it's even worse. simplistic dialogue and plot, huge plotholes, stupid solutions, the same annoying narrator. and the blood tube? don't get me started
“You know I couldn’t let you get away, sweetheart.”
Chloe Smith is married to Lucas Smith, 29. Though she works in sales in IKEA, Chloe puts her marriage first—always.
She’s basically obsessed with Lucas, and the couple seem to have the prefect relationship.
Well, that is, until Chloe happens upon something peculiar…
The secret items call back a traumatic event in Lucas’s past. An event he’d like to leave dead and buried, but instead it becomes full center. And from there, we are off to the races.
The author’s female voice is much more organic than it is in Never Leave Me. Sounds like a real woman. 😊
Boris takes his time setting the table here, but by the time we’re back in Mirstone, the pace and flow are excellent. As the book progresses, Boris ratchets up the tension and the twists. Strong action scenes as well.
Lost in the woods for months…the clandestine trips…secret graves…an escaped inmate…Mary…survival…the accent…
The author really leans into the crazy on this one. It’s a deliciously fun and twisted thriller. Quite scary at times as well.
Strong ending to a wild (but not unbelievable) novel.
“I loved you. I loved you more than anything.” “I loved you, too.”
