I was gifted an ARC copy of The Alone Advantage by Terri Savelle Fox, and loved how it was such a smooth read. Unlike some personal development books, this one was very easy to breeze through without being overwhelmed or losing its thought provoking points and guidance. She discusses step by step how to break up your alone time in bite-size chunks to be the most productive you. While the religious aspect won’t be for everybody, the principles within are easy to follow for all.
I found tremendous motivation and support in this book. There are many passages I underlined, and verses that really resonated for me. I even ended up buying a new notebook to write down some of the lines that were really powerful for me. My Jan'24 had me on unsure footing, and reading this book helped me work through some of my anxiety and have more hope as I approach the rest of the year, and frankly, Life! She has shared her own experiences, and those of other well-known figures, and the stories are not the popular ones, but those that were more grounding in the point she is making. While I am not a Christian, I feel that if I could attend lectures and talks by Terri, even if that meant waking up early on Sundays, I'd do it! This book is added to be re-read, or just go back and read my highlights and notes.
Terri Savelle Foy has done it again. Her teachings are so practical and straight forward, that it makes for such a quick read. Typically nonfiction or teaching books take me 2 or 3 times longer than fiction books—more if the book is dull. But not with this book. I finished the whole thing in 10 days….which is lightning speed for me with a nonfiction book. I highlighted so many nuggets of truth. Not only does this book make you realize the importance of alone, quiet time to think, hear yourself (and God) speak, pray and sometimes even just be. But it also gives you practical ways to make it happen, that aren’t just wake up at the crack of dawn (because that’s usually the solution I come to myself). I love how she highlights the importance of investing in yourself so that you can invest in your dream and in others. She makes it relatable by weaving in her own personal stories with the origin stories of many celebrities or successful people that we may or may not have heard and shows how they used these same practical principles to reach the success goals they have achieve. She just makes it seem not only possible but plausible…with the help of God of course!
**Thank you to the author and publisher for an advanced review copy of the book. My opinions are my own.
This was a great spring cleaning and spring clearing read - and everything she talked about was backed up by the truth of God's Word. I really appreciated the feminine, Christian approach to going after the dreams that God has placed in your heart.
It's not another book telling you to do more things, work really really hard, or to "get busy." Busy doesn't mean you're being productive - "don’t confuse activity with accomplishment - you may be busy but is it moving you toward your destination?"
Terri talks about keeping your space clean, clearing the clutter, spending quiet time with God, journaling, vision boards, setting goals, and becoming your own cheerleader - because when God gives you a dream, it's for YOU.
The main message - what you do in private (while you're preparing for bigger blessings and investing in personal growth) dictates what you're able to do in public.
Excellent book on the importance of "Alone Time" in growing spiritually and otherwise. The author chronicles her own time of going through a rough patch and having to do some hard work on her soul all by herself. This book spoke to me. As much as people need other people to help through life, we also need time to knuckle down and find more self discipline, form important new habits, and discern out next calling.
This book is unabashedly from a Christian perspective, and I appreciated how the author framed her messages within this framework. However, the author gives the reader some practical advice, too: clean up your house, clear out clutter, devote some time each day to housework. Though few of us want to hear this advice, many of us need to hear it. Sometimes, it's the little things that make a difference in how well we function and are able to move forward.
Highly recommended for those going through a rough patch.

I give The Alone Advantage five out of five stars!
This is my first time reading a book by Terri and it did not disappoint. This is the best book out there on self-help there is. I usually find those books meaningless but Terri does have an anointing that left me wanting to read all in one single sitting but I hold myself and decided to give time and enjoy it. I listened to the audio version while I cleaned my room and that made it all more special because she talked about decluttering your space. My favorite part was the first half of the book due to that. I proceeded to to donate and throw away a lot of things I didn’t even knew I had in order to have a cleaner space. It also helped me understand better how the inward witness works through imagination or pictures. Because sometimes we get ideas or dreams and imaginations and shrug g those off thinking we are just daydreaming but it’s actually the Lord dropping his will for us. You could tell Terri did her research and is not basing the books only on her experiences but on others as well. She constantly provided stats and stories of people to support her point. Overall, great book! Will definitely recommend if you want more order and structure in your life.
I absolutely loved this book! Terri provided so many wonderful nuggets of wisdom to help in personal development. I made so many notes and highlighted sentence after sentence. I appreciate that she incorporated the Bible as much as she could, but some of it seemed like the paraphrasing of verses were skewed to fit the narrative she was creating which is totally fine but...in some parts if felt more "woo-woo" than biblical and I think that's where a lot of lines get blurred for believers and nonbelievers...almost like, have your cake and eat it too. I don't think Jesus' main goal is for you to earn more money; maybe the law of attraction is better suited for those desires. Regardless, I am so glad my mom encouraged me to read it and I will be sure to look back on the parts that stood out to me and spoke to me during this transitional period of life.
This author’s integrity makes this a helpful book. I was expecting a contemplative read, but the beginning was an unusual mix of self-help and prosperity ideology. The thesis of putting in the work alone in preparation for belief in opportunities to come found its footing with scripture in the final third. The author has programming and resources to develop life-changing habits and reaching goals, but these are barely mentioned in the book. Check out her website for info on developing vision boards, etc.
When you started talking about the release of this book and what it was about, I knew I just had to get it! I’ve read it in 18-days and can boldly say I am much better for it. I took alone time to read it, which was much needed for me. Thank you for being so practical and clear in the steps I should take . Thank you for the emphasis on doing it according to God’s way. When we get to heaven and Abba says to me “well done Debby”, be rest assured you, madam cheerleader of dreams, helped me get there. God bless you!
Inspirational! Terry shows the importance of spending time alone and how it can reshape one’s life. Spending time alone should be a schedule part of everyone’s day. It just as important as exercising, drinking water and eating balanced meals. Time alone allows on to get to know themselves better, focus on dreams/goals and get important personal tasks completed before we have to meet the demands of work and caring for our families. You can’t pour from an empty cup. It’s not selfish to prioritize yourself. It actually helps you to love others better.
A good book on the importance of "Alone Time" in growing spiritually and focusing/working on your dreams/goals. The author relates her personal experiences and shares the discipline and work we need to do to change our lives and obtain our goals and dreams. We work privately for the achievements seen publicly. Life requires work and participation. Even calling/seeking God requires you to be a participant and be active.
If you are a person who wants to grow yourself, be a tool to be used by God, or to be able to help others…read this book and put it into practice. It is an extremely useful study tool!! If you are happy with your complacency, then don’t bother. You are the only one who can make that decision for you.
Loved it. While none of the information is new, Terri does a beautiful way of connecting the dots and motivating you to actually take charge. The book is full of examples from famous people and she reiterates the ideas in scripture. It is the swift kick in the butt that you just made need to make big changes.
Such a great book!! Wow. Now comes the hard part... Application of what I've read. I took a lot of notes since this was a library book. I highly recommend this. I haven't begun the application part yet, but I want to. And that in itself is huge. It has inspired me to make changes. Let me grab a journal and get started.
Best book I’ve read in such a long time. If you feel stuck, discouraged, unmotivated in life…don’t wait any longer. Pick up this book! It gives so much depth & wisdom in such a simple way. By the last page, you will have the tools you need to live your dreams!!
Another great encouraging book by Terri! This book will help keep you on the right track with helpful reminders to have a positive mind to set big goals and dreams and trust God to deliver the impossible to those that will believe.
I’ve been in a rut for a very long time. This book stirred something up inside me and has given me some hope. For once in a very long time I’ve become motivated to try and put forth effort into making my life better.
This book has inspired me to move closer to God and to get out of my comfort zone. I took notes and began a plan to make progress. I highly recommend this book for anyone who feels stuck in their life and not sure what to do next. This book will stir you up.
It was a life changing experience for me, it wasn’t just a book I read it was a book that gave me back life! And my family noticed, so much so that my 14yo asked me to read the book!
Loved this book so much. So many wise words to really change your life, only if you take the steps and make the choice yourself! Really enjoyed reading and got so many invaluable notes and quotes to remind myself of everything I learnt.
😭😭😭 So amazing!!! This was the exact book I needed. Every morsel of truth. By the end, I wanted to cry... I am so grateful, and I will be relistening to this a few more times this week. In fact, it's funny: when I put this on, I went about cleaning & organizing organically, & because of the book, was so incredibly motivated to overhaul my whole life 😂 putting it into action, already!! Lol THANK YOU, TERRI.💖 {She is also offering a free bonus on her Instagram when you purchase her book, but you've got to hurry to catch it.}
Without too many spoilers, my own paraphrase of a takeaway: the lame man in the Bible by the pool, when Jesus asked him if he actually wanted to be healed... I finally understood in my own head, that we see this exact scenario play out every day, when we look around (hopefully we are not these people, and will GROW, if so!) and see people with messy lives (in all areas) that aren't willing to change... Comfortably living a life in defiance of the very things they say they want (or begrudge) out of their mouths... Yikes. That's convicting 🔥🔥🔥 this whole book is not only fire, but encouraging & TRUTH.
Praise God for Terri's life 💖🙏🙏 being BFF's is a life goal 😂.
I have read a lot books and this one was beyond encouraging! I am going through a difficult season and I have felt so inspired and motivated. Absolutely love this book.
This book was exactly what I needed right now. Terri has a way of stirring you up to take charge of your circumstances. The best way is to spend time alone. Great read. I recommend to anyone.
Terri points out how we get in our own way and fail in reaching our potential and purpose. She shows us how to change our mindset to achieve our dreams.
