Marriage Spells Murder: Book 1 in the Wedding Witch paranormal cozy mystery series
an intriguing combination of mystery and romance.

In her engrossing novel "Marriage Spells Murder: Wedding Witch - Book 1," Bella Colby deftly blends the charm of a literary work with the mystery of a murder investigation. ".". I found Colby's story to be a really interesting read because it is a delightful blend of magic, romance, and a hint of danger.

Readers are immediately drawn into the enthralling world of Lily Locke, a young woman with a special talent. She is a wedding witch, and she can use spells to make any wedding extraordinary. It is practically hard to put the book down once you start reading it because it introduces you to a whole new world of enchanted spells, love, and mystery.

Colby writes in an engrossing manner. Her portrayal of the story's quirky, lovable characters, as well as the charming little town and breathtaking surroundings, is excellent. She draws you into her story so completely that you can almost smell the roses and feel the magic in the air. The author's descriptive prose swept me away into Lily Locke's magical world, making me feel as though I was experiencing everything alongside her.

"Marriage Spells Murder" has exceptionally strong character development. The protagonist, Lily Locke, is a likable, sympathetic, and charming person who appears to be someone you could get along with despite possessing magical abilities. Readers can readily identify with her character because of her hardships and insecurities. The ensemble plays a masterful role, and the story benefits from the intricacy and subtlety that each member contributes.

This delightful mystery/romance blend keeps you guessing right up until the very end. It's hard to stay emotionally detached from Lily and that person given the romantic tension that develops between them throughout the narrative. Additionally.

The mystery element is handled deftly. To keep you on the lookout, Bella Colby employs red herrings and hints. The pace is superb, the plot never falters, and it strikes the ideal mix of romance and suspense.

Though there is always space for improvement, the book is definitely captivating. A more subtle and intricate resolution would have given the story more depth, but some readers might find the mystery's resolution to be a bit too neatly wrapped up. Furthermore, there are moments when certain plot points become very clear, and the tension would have been better with a little more unpredictability.

The author ought to think about exploring the fantastical world she has created even more if she wants to receive a perfect five stars. Further information about the restrictions and guidelines relating to the magical elements could improve the reader's experience and set the book apart from other paranormal romances.

In summary, "Marriage Spells Murder: Wedding Witch - Book 1" is a gripping read that deftly combines romance, magic, and mystery into an engrossing tale. Bella Colby's characters are lovable and captivating, and the fantastical world she creates is vivid and captivating. Her storytelling technique captivates the listener. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next one. Romance, mystery, and paranormal enthusiasts should not miss this book.

harry potter meets sherlock holmes?

Skye, who we can assume is in her late thirties, is a wedding celebrant at day and a witch at night. not really. Skye has been hiding her supernatural powers since a young age. and one might wonder why somebody would do that?

the answer is simple – a spell gone wrong. and her marriage, too. because of that spell. apparently casting a love spell on her now ex-husband wasn’t her brightest idea.

but it gets worse. while performing her duty of a wedding celebrant, Skye witnesses a murder. Ben, a lovely (NOT) bridegroom, dies from a peanut allergy. it might sound ridiculous until we find out that he had a long (and I mean loooong) list of people who hated him and would rather shove peanuts down his throat instead.

Skye decides to investigate the matter after her friend Herb gets blamed for a crime she thinks he hasn’t committed. another reason for her being deep down into solving the mystery is her ex-husband, who is now a local detective.
is it a second-chance romance? will she be able to prove that her friend is innocent? who is the actual murderer?

now, personally, guessing the plot twist was a bit too easy from the very beginning. did I enjoy the book though? hell yes, I did!
it wasn’t a long read, it’s sweet and funny.
Skye is a very likeable character. she is smart, but the author doesn’t make it her only personality trait.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series brings (as I assumed it’s the first book). didn’t really like the cover of the book though, but it might be just my personal preference.

please note: I’ve received a free copy of this book for a review. despite this, my review is honest and subjective.

I have a thing for cozy paranormals, and this seemed like a book I would enjoy, so I dived in. There were a few details that I wish the author would have told us about Skye’s past, but other than that, I was captivated. Skye is a witch who doesn’t use her powers because she doesn’t want to be found by witch-hunters. We aren’t told much about either, but I’m hoping we’ll find out more in future books. Speaking of future books, I am definitely going to read them; I want more Skye, Wolfie, Jen, and all the other characters. Engaging, fun, and well-written, give this one a try. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Charming who-dun-it that had some twists and turns that weren't just the windy roads! Fun characters and a bit of sadness but overall well done. I really enjoyed this short murder mystery and look forward to more in this series...especially more Wolfie! And I look forward to Skylar finding her witchy powers.

Good storyline with a little bit of everything; murder, work, love, wolves, ex-husbands and best friends being arrested for murder. Skylar has her work cut out for her as she turned her back on her magic years ago and now she has to figure out who killed the bridegroom and save her best friend. Of course, bringing back the ex-husband just makes the story better and better! I would definitely recommend this book and I hope there are more to come.

Entertaining first entry in the series this was a quick and fun read. A handful of suspects and a witch who is doing her best NOT to practise her craft. Along with her wolf protector, Skylar Blackwood works her way around the clues to attempt to save a friend from being charged with murder. I found it to be an interesting read and look forward to the next.

Skylar is a witch but she only once used a magic spell and that went wrong. A bridegroom dies at his wedding. Someone gets arrested but Skylar doesn't believe he did it. I truly enjoyed this book. It's very entertaining, well written. I like the characters (love Wolfie).

Very snarky!

I was promised a lot of snark and yes, there was lots of it! Only thing is, I felt all that sarcasm and snark needed to be balanced out just a bit, some more fun, some more kindness. It is a cozy after all, so the snark can’t only be negative in tone. Skye was almost jaded, and negative about love, which was surprising for a wedding celebrant. Wolfie was a bit of a killjoy. He whined so much! I did like how he calls Leo ‘Haggis Breath’ LOL. At first, I didn’t know if I liked Skye, I didn’t know if I liked Leo and I was sure I didn’t like Wolfie. But that got better towards the end. Once Wolfie wasn’t so bored anymore, he was actually nice to have around. And the conversations between Skye and Wolfie got better too, at first they were so negative and grumpy. Again, balance, please, add in a bit more humor, a bit less snapping, and you’re there. Same with Skye and Leo at first, add a fun element and it’s not so serious anymore, not so negative.

But I did find myself wanting to keep on reading, the story was good! I did know, with certainty, whodunit right from the moment the case started. That was a shame, but I should mention I’m a seasoned mystery reader who knows the tricks. Still, I love to be surprised in a mystery and that didn’t happen. Although the ‘why’ took longer to puzzle out, so that was nice.

But like I said, the story was actually very good, the tone was light, and the feel was right, except for what I already mentioned. The mystery was wrapped up well, explained well, which I always appreciate. It’s almost there, almost at 5-star level. With time and practice, I believe this author will get there.

I would recommend reading the prequel, Wedding Day Brews, first.

Stopped at 69%. The lead female character was obsessively trying to investigate the murder. She was interfering with law enforcement and endangering herself. I couldn't take it anymore.

Skylar Blackwood is a witch who has sworn off magic. Now a wedding celebrant in a seaside town, her life takes a turn when the groom dies in the middle of the wedding and her friend is arrested for the crime. Her ex-husband shows up as the lead detective and she is determined to solve the case and free her friend…

This was a quick, light cozy mystery. The pace was good and there were a handful of suspects for Skylar to work through—though I correctly identified the killer at the beginning.

I would have liked more world-building on the paranormal side. We’re told there are covens and witch hunters, but given no detail.

The banter between Skye and her ex was inconsistent to me—sometimes light with hints of romantic tension and sometimes snarky and rude. That made it hard for me to fully connect with Skylar and root for her to succeed.

Overall, this story was enjoyable but it didn’t wow me.

ARC provided by the author through BookSirens. Opinions are my own.

Bella Colby has a new paranormal mystery series coming out called Marriage Spells Murder,

Wedding Witch. Having just finished book 1 I can tell you that I cannot wait to read the others as I am now a huge fan to her work

She writes beautiful, honest, fun, characters with a bit of whimsy and a lot of emotion. The storyline hits all the right notes with murder, romance, magic, witchcraft and adventure.

Skylar is a witch who hasn't used her spells since an unfortunate incident years ago. Her best friend Herb finds himself in a bit of a pickle as he is arrested for the murder of Skylar's client and groom. Though the groom was a rather grump fellow, Skylar cannot help but try to solve his murder and protect her BFF. And she aims to do it before her ex, the detective on the case solves it.

Read this fun, adventurous, witchy novel to find out whether Skylar falls for her ex, gets Herb out of jail and solves the murder (before the ex).

I really enjoyed this first book in the Wedding Witch series. I had previously read the author's newsletter-only prequel novella about how Skye arrived in Tidewater, and highly enjoyed it as well. I found the setting of a coastal fishing village in the UK to be charming and I could almost smell the sea air and the fresh fish and chips that the characters experienced. I was surprised when the killer was revealed, as there were many viable options and I was satisfied with the outcome. I would love to find out more about Skye's past, as we only got teasers throughout, but it will definitely keep me coming back for more. Wolfie was an endearingly grumpy-yet-sweet wolf familiar, and was clearly dedicated to protecting Skye through everything. It will be interesting to see where the story goes next, as Skye doesn't want to use her magic for fear of being caught by witch hunters. Highly recommend this series!

I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Marriage Spells Murder

I read the prequel before starting this, the first book in the series. I loved Wolfie the familiar/protector. He's A real wolf but poses as an Alaskan Malamute. I love wolves and dogs, so that started out everything with a plus. I'm not real sure about the main character yet, Skye. I like the supporting cast of friends. Love the small seaside town. The first story consisting of a dead groom was well thought out. Story had lots of twists and turns as the case carried on. Long list of would be killers. Wolfie plays a big part in helping sort out the evidence and suspects. Once that came to a head, the case was quickly solved. I like that she included all the people the crime impacted. Not just the actual victim. I am looking forward to the next book. I still am not weighing in on our main character. Its not usual that I like the friends more.

I really enjoyed the first in this new series. Skylar Blackwood is a wedding officiant. She’s also a witch. But with you, Office not to use her magic and who has fought using it for 20 years since they love spell went wrong. Well officiating a wedding at a beautiful castle in her hometown the groom who happens to be, a nasty fella with no shortage of enemies dies from a peanut allergy. Skye’s friend herb is blamed for the murder. None other than Skye’s ex-husband is the detective on the case. This book has a great cast of characters, super enjoyable. I love Skye’s wolf familiar “Wolfie” who refers to her ex- husband as “haggis breath.” This is a quick read, but super enjoyable. I am looking forward to a second in the series.

The groom dies at his own wedding and the main character, Skye, is trying to clear her friend by finding out who did it. It's mostly conversation; sometimes she's talking to Wolfie the dog at the same time as she's talking to people, but the people don't see the dog, and, it's very snarky, which makes it all hard to follow sometimes. And what's with the ex? I didn't get a clear enough sense of who he was, let alone what happened. Same with Skye herself; it's harder to invest ourselves in a hero, when so much is going on around her and she's blowing it off with snark. But it's fun and entertaining.

Marriage Spells Murder is book #1 in the Wedding Witch Cozy Mystery series by Bella Colby.

You know it is a bad day when the worst thing isn’t the groom dropping dead during the wedding ceremony. This book has an interesting cast of characters, including Prince Killian of Pendragon’s Rock, aka Wolfie. I really like Skylar. Having her trying to share evidence Wolfie found without letting people know it came from him added a nice dose of humor. It was an interesting case with plenty of suspects. I can’t wait to see what Skye and Wolfie get involved in next!

Short story lots of typos mediocre story

Short murder mystery. Wolfie is a cool character, but the rest of the characters are two dimensional at best. The pacing is weird with some abrupt chapter endings. And there are numerous typos, from whole words left in that should have been edited out to words partially italicized.

The witch in the story casts all of two spells. The solution is obvious from the start. The ex husband turned local DI might have been interesting if anything happened with it. Lastly, there was no emotional payoff.

Wolfie saves this book from getting one star, as his highness' sarcasm was enjoyable.

I loved this book. The characters were great. I loved experiencing what they were experiencing through the book.

This book made me curious. I wanted to know what would happen to the characters, and I found myself solving the mystery along with the characters.

To add to the intrigue, each chapter ends with a question. It's not a question the author posed, but one I had in my mind as a reader.

It was such a nice story and an easy read. If you're looking for a cute mystery, look no further.

I really enjoyed reading this story. The fact Skye is a full-fledged witch who refuses to use her magic and is trying to keep Herb out of jail after he was suspected of murder, who is a self-proclaimed witch with no magic whatsoever, is just one of the ironic parts of this story. Out of all the characters, I have to admit that my favorite is Wolfie. I just love the way he goes from licking someone’s hand to full-on protection mode. I can’t wait to see where Bella Colby takes this series next.

I loved this cozy little mystery. The witch with her wolf named Wolfie just can't leave the who done it alone. Her ex husband is in charge of a murder that takes place and she really wants the last word. Especially when her friend is accused and set up for this murder. The book flows so well and is so enjoyable, that you forget someone was murdered. I just loved reading about the characters. A very good book!

Story 4 stars but too many spelling mistakes. Proofreading and editing was missed.

Also, an epipen is filled with epinephrine, hence the brand name epipen. Epinephrine is adrenaline. No antidote and no antihistamines. An EpiPen will not treat the allergic reaction. It’ll keep you alive until the allergy is being treated. If someone only uses an epipen and nothing else, their anaphylactic reaction will return once the adrenaline levels are reduced down again

I really enjoyed this book. I am excited to know more about the story. I LOVE WOLFIE!! Despite being a die hard cat fan, this (very regal) pup connected with me. But the whole book was great; I would recommend it to anyone who loves cozy, light reads.

I received a copy of this book for free, but the opinions are mine. I am writing this voluntarily; it’s just really good!

Enjoyable!

This was an easy read, and totally enjoyable. The author did a good job developing the mystery. The characters were well developed and interesting. I found it a bit weird to have a talking (to Skylar) dog, but it did add a bit of fun to the story. This was a good start to the series.

Skylar thinks this wedding will be easy, but not when the groom dies right at the altar. Then the detective turns out to be her ex-husband. One of her close friends is accused of the murder. Skylar will get involved to solve this murder, but at what cost? This was a really good read and I enjoyed getting to know all the characters. I am excited to see where they go from here.

Fun story kept me guessing who the murderer was. A witch who left her coven when she got married. The wolf companion who never leaves her side. The Ex husband who is the Detective on the case. A Wedding at a Castle turns disastrous when the groom dies before the Wedding vows are read and then a second murder happens. This was a fun story and I recommend it.

This was a fun read. I wish there was more of a spark, more romance. One couple is apart for most of the book, one is divorced, and the other is … nope can’t say. Love Wolfie! He’s sarcastic and fierce. Going to read the prequel now and then the second book. Recommended for those who enjoy cozy paranormal mysteries and sarcastic wolves.

While there's very little magic in this book, the storyline was simple and straightforward with the promise of more magic to come. Wolfie is a delightful sidekick character to Skylar, and amongst the mystery/crime solving, there's definitely a romance rekindling with Skylar's ex-husband, Leo. I'll get into the other books and see how much my guesses play out!

I’m confessing that I’m addicted to this series! This book could definitely be a satisfying stand-alone, but reading the series is like becoming part of the team. The characters, plot twists, mystery, and relationships are well-written and fun. Of course, I recommend it and look forward to the next adventure.

I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. It is a good mystery with a murder victim not well liked which gives a lot of suspects. The police zero in on an innocent suspect who is unlucky. I like how Skylar and her wolf solve the case.
