Unpopular opinion- Adele is awful
Let me start by acknowledging that I read the ending comments by the author and saw that she intentionally wrote Adele the way she did, as she apparently loves angry women. Well she hit that one out of the park if that was her intent. Unfortunately for me, she ruined the book for me. I have enjoyed this lumberjack series and the connecting interwoven underlying storyline, but I found myself throughout the entire book alternating between wanting to quit reading and hoping it would end soon so I could move on to a new release I was looking forward to starting. Ugh.
Adele was suppose to be this bada$$ boss, but unfortunately she just came across as the a$$. There’s a fine line in being this tough persona in a “man’s world” and just being a cold jerk, and she plowed over that like a long time ago without looking back. It made it really hard to like her or feel any sympathy for her battle with the grief over the loss of her father. There was a moment when she had an internal monologue about how people perceived her that gave me hope, but then she just continued being unlikeable. The fact that there are brief moments showing her running her girl crew like a boss and semi mentoring his daughter just didn’t make up for the rest of her behavior or make her somehow more empowered.
What really bothers me is that Finn’s a really great guy. Like, really great. And she is so so so awful. So angry and hateful. She is filled with rage. I get that his father is horrible and did awful things, but HE did not. And even SHE acknowledged that the horrible things happened to her father and her siblings, and somehow SHE is the only one still holding on to the hatred and blaming the rest of the family. It’s tiresome at this point. If the roles were reversed, and the man were treating the woman the way she treats him, there would be outrage. It’s shameful tbh. And he’s like a puppy dog just begging for a chance. If it were the other way around the consensus would be that he’s a toxic dbag and she’s a doormat for coming back for more. Frankly, I couldn’t figure out what he found so attractive about her. She treated him horribly throughout most of the book, and I felt bad for him. He deserved better.
I’m 100% all for finding someone who loves you for you, and not the you that you could be if you changed to fit them. Someone who accepts you for who you are. But this chick has been aggressively angry her entire life. That’s not Boss Bish. She has been unable to maintain any relationships. She had zero friends until her sister in law forced herself into her life. She’s really not even close with her siblings, and throws them death glares. That’s therapy level anger imo, if you can’t even maintain basic interactions. Like come on. I will also point out the pregnancy is played up in then blurb and ads but is not even a thing until way late in the book, and then very minimally. So don’t expect it to be centered around that.
So I gave it 4 stars even though Adele ruined the book. She deserves one star. The reason for the 4 stars is that Finn deserves all the stars. Also, the writing is spot on and other than Adele, I loved the story. This little lumberjack town and Clive the crazy moose definitely reel you in.

What I liked:
No third act breakup
He's a simp for her (and we love to see it)
What I didn't like:
Pretty much everything else
I hated the FMC. Yes, she was strong. Yes, she was empowered. And the story reminded us of that every third paragraph. No, literally. It was actually this often. I get the whole grumpy character thing, I get that she was angry and had issues channeling that anger properly, but she was terrible to him. The things she said were horrible, and she was saying these things even as they together. She had a huge rant in the beginning about how badly men treat her, stringing her along and barely giving her the time of day because they get insecure by her job and independence and then she TREATS HIM THE EXACT SAME WAY FOR MONTHS.
Oh and my favorite part was her pages-long chastising of the town members (including the mayor) for doing and saying things she herself had been doing and saying to the MMC throughout the book.
Yeah, that happened.
And he praises her and thanks her for it, like she didn't feel shame for the way she was acting while continuing to act the exact same way.
She kept him as her dirty little secret until like 96% through the book.
Read that again. I'm not exaggerating.
It was apparently never the right time to come out because [insert any reason that will buy her more time].
Lastly, the entire book is told in past-tense from internal monologue from the characters except for a few parts here and there. That's the most annoying way to read, and is the top advice for any writer ever: show, don't tell.
*sigh*
Kudos for not having a third act breakup. I actually wanted him to leave her ass though.

I just remembered how cringey it was that the author tried to show how good of a relationship he still has with his ex (who he co-parents with), by having him constantly talk about her like she's still his woman, being protective of her, calling her "his girl". Like??? You can be a good friend with someone and still have respectful boundaries that won't make your significant other (and anyone else who hears you talking like this) question things.
Speaking of which, this is technically a single parent romance, but we only see the daughter a few times and then everything else is casual mentions after the fact. I wouldn't read this if you're specially looking for the single parent trope.

I’m actually a whole ass mess right now. This book was perfect. Adele and Finn are everything I ever hoped and dreamed they would be. I’m obsessed. 😭

I've been waiting for Adele since Lovewell Lumberjacks started, so my expectations for her story with Finn were through the roof, and Daphne Elliot overcome them masterfully! The love story that these two share is like no other I have read: super tender, funny, sweet and complicated, both are very emotionally complex characters and complement each other in a very special way, plus everything happens between them in the best moment and I loved reading their journey, even though it was a little sad because it's the end of the series.
Adele is my favorite Gagnon, without a doubt, (Remy is still my favorite of the boys) she's a woman who fights to make her way in a world dominated by men and achieves it , it's also a bit difficult for her to be vulnerable due to the disappointments and losses she has experienced, and she lives with constant pain and guilt since her father died and Henri had the accident, I think this is what broke my heart the most about Adele, but it was also one of the things I liked the most to read because Daphne dealt very well with all the emotional pain that her character goes through, I loved that she found in Finn the support, understanding and comfort that his family cannot give her and that with every interaction with him and little Merry Adele demonstrates that behind her tough exterior there is a beautiful person, with a huge heart capable of supporting those who need it most.
Finn is the new love of my life, (again, sorry Remy) I was very excited to read him since the signs of his attraction to Adele started coming out in the previous books, but I didn't expect to love him this way. Finn is a former sailor, a dedicated and loving dad who chose to leave his dreams behind to be present in his daughter's life, he is going through a difficult economic situation due to to his father's scandal, and the worst of all is that the place that was always his home is now the one where everyone constantly reminds him of his family's mistakes and his contempt for the Heberts. But Finn is going to move on: he's in the process of finding another dream, even if it means being next to the person who hates him the most inaLovewell, Adele , and who he can't stop thinking about. The things I liked most about Finn were reading him being the best dad in the world, maintaining a relationship of respect and friendship with Alicia, his ex, something we need to see more of in our romances, and his playful, slightly arrogant personality, but also sweet and very tender.
Adele & Finn have a complicated road ahead: their families have been rivals for years, and since Adele found out that the patriarch of the Heberts murdered her father, her hatred for them, and especially for Finn has only grown, but neither of them can deny the connection that has existed since that first kiss, and when Adele begins to know the real Finn everything becomes even harder for her to ignore. These two have an explosive love story, quite sweet, tender, funny and full of touching moments that made my heart melt, but what I liked most was reading Finn being EVERYTHING Adele needs, showing her how valuable she's to him and understanding that she needs time to accept everything that is happening between them. Furthermore, although Adele constantly struggles with her emotional pain, guilt and confusion caused by her feelings for Finn, they always manage to communicate in a healthy way and resolve their misunderstandings.

He esperado por Adele desde que empezó Lovewell Lumberjacks así que mis expectativas en su historia con Finn estaban por los cielos, y Daphne Elliot las supero de manera magistral! La historia de amor que comparten estos dos es como ninguna otra que he leído: super tierna, divertida, dulce y complicada, ambos son personajes muy complejos emocionalmente y se complementan de una manera muy especial, además de que todo pasa entre ellos en el momento justo y me encantó leer su viaje, aún cuando fue un poco triste porque es el final de la serie.
Adele es mi Gagnon favorita, sin dudas, (Remy todavía es mi favorito de los chicos) es una mujer que lucha por abrirse paso en un mundo dominado por hombres y lo logra, también le cuesta un poco mostrarse vulnerable debido a las decepciones y perdidas que ha experimentado, y vive con un dolor y culpa constantes desde que su papá murió y Henri tuvo el accidente, creo que esto es lo que más me rompió el corazón del personaje de Adele, pero también fue una de las cosas que más me gustó leer porque Daphne trató muy bien todo el dolor emocional que su personaje atraviesa, me encantó que encontrara en Finn el apoyo, comprensión y consuelo que su familia no puede darle y que con cada interacción con él y la pequeña Merry Adele demuestre que detrás de su duro exterior hay una persona hermosa, con un corazón enorme y capaz de dar la cara y apoyar a quienes más lo necesitan.
Finn es el nuevo amor de mi vida, (de nuevo, lo siento Remy) estaba muy emocionada de leerlo desde que las señales de su atracción por Adele comenzaron a salir en los libros anteriores, pero no esperaba amarlo de esta manera. Adele & Finn tienen un camino complicado por delante: sus familias han sido rivales por años, y desde que Adele se enteró que el patriarca de los Hebert asesinó a su papá su odio por ellos, y especialmente por Finn no ha hecho más que crecer, pero ninguno de los dos puede negar la conexión que ha existido desde ese primer beso, y cuando Adele empieza a conocer al verdadero Finn todo se vuelve aún más difícil de ignorar para ella. Wood Riddance
So I had read the two Hebert bro books and had no idea this series existed. That series is blowing up on booktok (and rightly so, Pain in the Ax is really good). But a series about a group of brothers where another one is already in a relationship? Made me curious.
Now sometimes reading out of order makes people upset. Not me. While I knew them a little this book really made it clearer to me.
This is enemies (well at least one sided) to lovers with some black cat/golden retriever energy. Adele kicks butt and Finn is so caring and a great single dad. I loved that she was so cautious and he was so in.

I read-devoured-inhaled this book in record time; I could not stop turning pages and reading Finn and Adele’s story! There is so much to love about this book, but what I loved most of all was the relationship between Finn and Adele! It was complicated and messy, and also swoony and exhilarating and passionate! The two of them leaped off the page with every interaction, whether they were fighting or loving—and tbh, usually it was both!! There were also so many tender moments along the way, as they showed up for each other over and over. Their own insecurities, their feuding families, their pain, all tried to get in the way; but all of that helped create a bond that was stronger and sweeter than it would have been otherwise. This is a fantastic standalone novel, but don’t miss out on all the Lovewell fun, and read the whole series!!

Overall, with the amazing banter and pinning, this novel is my favorite in the Lovewell Lumberjacks series.

What a fantastic end to a wonderful series.
Adele & Finn captured my heart! I loved their banter, chemistry & communication. From the first moment these two were electric. I absolutely loved them. They’re definitely for fans of reverse grumpy/sunshine.
I was a little nervous going into this one since it has the accidental pregnancy trope (not a fan) but I shouldn’t have been. It doesn’t happen until later in the story so I could enjoy the enemies with benefits and watching Adele & Finn fall in love.
I feel Elliot’s writing is at its best here. I couldn’t put the book down. I needed more of the couple. I also liked that the mystery/suspense storyline wrapped up nicely without overshadowing the romance. The story flowed effortlessly and kept me turning the pages.
He-Man was adorable! We need more dogs in future books please.
The steamy scenes were great and dirty. Viking lumberjack did not disappoint!! Hint: there’s outdoor fun & strip ax throwing 🤭

I have been dying for Adele Gagnon’s book since the first Lovewell book. I love a badass heroine and Adele was the definition of that. Mix in an enemies to lovers trope with Finn Hebert of a rival family and this book was everything.
Adele and Finn were perfect for each other. They had so much in common, a love of national parks and Theodore Roosevelt! (Very much same also loved that Daphne said that is true for her real life relationship with her husband, love when authors write about their lives) Finn was amazing single dad who knew that Adele was it for him and he was determined to that to prove to her. I also loved Finn’s daughter, Merry, she was so invested in her father’s happiness.

“I know that, Dad. But wouldn’t you want someone to help you fight off the aliens?”
This book wrapped up the series long mystery of who within Gangon lumber was behind the murder of Adele’s father and the accident her brother had. It was a perfect ending to the series and I truly hope we get to know Finn’s brothers, maybe a future series?!

I would like to begin by thanking the author for the e-arc opportunity in exchange for a completely honest review of the book.
This book continues to have the small town charm wholesomeness with a hint of spice that I loved in the other books. The tropes include feuding families, forbidden family, accidental pregnancy, no third act breakup, a Viking Lumberjack single dad, and so much more. Like all of the other books as well, you can read this as a standalone.
Adele was a character that I've liked in every book. She is the only girl among 3 big lumberjacks and so she had to make sure that she was rougher around the edges. Adele is presented as this confident Amazonian Goddess in a male dominated occupation and I love that for her. She was great at what she did and didn't let anyone demean her work.All of that being said, I will admit that I was slightly annoyed with her character at first. I am all for a woman in her feminine rage era, but I was shocked about how she treated Finn at first. I truly do empathize with her pain and loss. Her emotions were all valid and she had every right to be angry at the world; however, I couldn't help but wince at some of her conversations with Finn. Maybe that was the point to demonstrate her flaws and how she grew to let her walls down with the right person, but that impression remains. Adele at the end of the day embodies the strong independent woman who is always on guard around others, but is able to enter her soft era when she feels safe + supported by the right partner.
Finn is a veteran single dad attempting to navigate this small town after some wild revelations about his family. He is a sweetheart by nature and has happened to have a crush on Adele Gagnon since forever. I absolutely adored how he was not shy to show his obvious interest , admiration and affection for Adele. There was no questions about how he felt and no room for misunderstandings. This man certainly knows how to wear his heart on his sleeve for Adele. For the entirety of the book, I must say that he was the healthy communicator when it came to all aspects of their relationship. His open nature is what allowed Adele to gradually accept and be okay with vulnerability. Finn's support of Adele and her needs was so beautiful and wholesome to see. He pined after Adele for so long and to see him be so giddy when it was reciprocated, brought a smile to my face.
Finn was such a good book boyfriend. Patient and understanding. There was nothing he wasn't willing to do for Adele and that was what made her begin to soften up to him. The tension, angst, and longing from Finn was done well. When these two finally got together, I got the classic butterflies and giggles from their interactions. The spice was so good too ! As for the accidental pregnancy aspect of the story, I expected it to be a major plot point for longer, but I am not complaining about how it was done at all. Seeing these two become so protective and excited over the baby was so cuteeeee. Finn will make sure Adele doesn't feel alone in this major change in their lives and that has me so incredibly happy because its not as common as we think.
As always it's nice to see the books from the prior couples. It was so satisfying to see them all with their respective partners and get more peeks into their HEAs. The Gagnon family is nothing short of adorable and the vibes continue to be good. The love they have for each other is genuine and so heartwarming to see. Clive the moose is always so much fun see and I really enjoy how the author makes his every appearance so creative.
Some other minor things that I wasn't so much a fan of include the constant TSwift references, some repetition, and as aforementioned Adele's initial behavior. But these were all things that I was able to overlook and thus still be able to enjoy the book in the end.
I had a good time with the series. It was my first exposure to the Lumberjack romance subgenre and it definitely made me have a small obsession with Lumbersnacks. The town of Lovewell has done wonders for my heart and I wonder what the author has in store for us next. I highly doubt this will be the last we will see of the Heberts and the Gagnons and Clive the moose.

Finn needs a job to keep his expensive plane. Flying is freedom for Finn and is willing to do anything to keep doing so, even work for a family that hates him because of his last name. His new office is in Adele's garage and she doesn't try to hide her dislike of the idea or her disdain for Finn. For Adele, she knows Finn isn't his father, and that Finn recently stepped up and helped her save her brother's life. Consumed by the anger of her father's death, she has to have someone to blame when she isn't blaming herself. The more she gets to know Finn she can feel her cold, hard walls crumbling. Finn loves his daughter and his airplane, everything else in his life isn't important. But he cannot deny the pull Adele has over him. His crush on her keeps him pushing Adele's buttons despite Adele's fangs. But Finn isn't phased by her tough exterior, once he sees how big her heart is, he can't help himself from fighting for her.

Shew! I thought I liked Pascal but Finn swept in to impress me even more. I am soft for a MMC that falls first and is absolutely crazy for the FMC. Finn is a fantastic book boyfriend. He isn't scared by Adele when she intimidates most people. He is the perfect partner for her and the only one that can love her how she craves. Adele is a tall, competent, intimidating woman and likes it that way. She doesn't want to like Finn but he is irresistible because he is so perfect for her. I loved their bickering and how hard they fall for each other. Sweet HEA and Epilogue. Wonderful bonus Epilogue.

The Gagnon and Hebert families of Lovewell, Maine have been at odds for generations because of their competing timber companies, but after learning that his father was responsible for her father's death, Adele Gagnon hates Finn Hebert more than ever. Even though Finn and his brothers had no knowledge of or involvement in their father's crimes, they're now in danger of losing the family business. That means Finn needs to find another job to help support his 10-year-old daughter, Merry, and keep his dream of starting his own flight tourism business alive. Adele's older brother Henri decides to give Finn a chance when the Gagnons need a qualified pilot to help them complete an aerial survey of the land they recently purchased, but unfortunately, Adele gets stuck with supervising him. Trapped together by an unexpected storm one afternoon, the sparks between Finn and Adele ignite into a passion that neither of them can ignore. Family feud notwithstanding, Finn quickly realizes that Adele is the only woman for him, but can he convince her that their love is worth risking her family's wrath?
The chemistry between Finn and Adele was fantastic! I loved that he didn't give up on her no matter how many times she tried to shut him down. It can't have been easy for her to grow up as the only girl in her family, but she more than held her own.
Overall, I adored "Wood Riddance" and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance fans. While I'm sad that this series is coming to an end, this book was a truly epic conclusion. I can't wait to get started on the next series featuring Finn's brothers!

It’s the end of the series!! I have loved the series so much each book had everything from romance to mystery to action to found family moments!
My mood reading got the better of me with this series so it’s been awhile since I’ve read them and this was the final book so there were a few moments that was a bit unsure of but it was very easy to pick back up and really enjoyable. I really liked Finn and Adele!!
Finn’s character always intrigued me not a fan of a man bond but that’s nothing to do with the story really he had an amazing personality a protective vibe he was adorable cinnamon roll, sweet cute caring he was the full package!!
Adele was firing and everything you wanted in a strong FMC she took nobody is shit and made sure that everyone knew not to mess with her, I loved her shop and the fact that it was all detailed and tidy and that everybody had respect for each other and it was kind of like a mini friendship family group.
Love seeing all the brothers and the partners and the mums. It was really sweet and I’m so glad we got to the bottom of it. I was always suspicious of Richard always suspicious and fine to be confirmed just made me smile!!!

Finn & Adele!!! What can you honestly say about this book??? It was so great and I loved every bit of it.
Finn is the opposite of what I thought we might get from him and I’m all for it. He’s sweet and thoughtful and loves with his entire soul. Yes his dad is a piece of work but it definitely isn’t what he is.
Adele is a fierce worrier queen and can put any of her brothers on there place. Honestly she puts the whole town on notice and they all make a change and that’s so great to show the younger ones that doing what’s right an being that person to stand up is way better.
I loved that Finn was all in and it was her that stood back an wax unsure. Usually it’s the other way around but she’s such a great female that she can hold her on.
This book had so many great qualities from main characters to the side ones. An of course Clyde being his normal self and Finn getting the worse of his attitude but it was beyond funny.
I love how we got a glimpse of what’s to come with the Hebert Family with the little bread crumbs throughout the book.

He is a former pilot described as a viking lumberjack who looks intimidating but is really the sweetest (unless you know, another guy gives his plaid shirt to Adele), and the best dad to his little girl.

Okay but I absolutely loved this book. I think it might be my favourite out of the whole series. I absolutely love Finn and I love the fact that he was always so open about everything he wanted with Adele. Like he flat out tells her that he’s not a secret and won’t hide the relationship.
Adele is just freaking amazing! I love that she doesn’t take anyone’s shit and is authentically herself and I love that she accepts that she’s in love with Finn. I just love seeing their relationship grow from a crush and enemies to lovers.
I loved the little bit of mystery and to wrap up what happened to Henri but I loved that the main focus was seeing Adele deal with her grief and finally being able to move forward with her life. I also absolutely adore Merry and love that she kept trying to get her dad to ask Adele out on a date and even going as far as asking herself. She’s so cute.

This is the love story of Adele the Amazonian mechanical engineer and Finn the single dad ex-military pilot, members of generations-long rival lumber families in Maine.
Both are dealing with trauma and grief while in the midst of family messes, knowing they deserve better than the romantic options they’ve been offered, and scared of what they want their futures to look like.
These two made me root for them as individuals and a couple the whole damn time.
There’s humor and mystery and steam and action and beauty and heartache, and it’s put together in one great book. A solid end to the series that propels us right into the Maine Lumberjacks series.

This book was so anticipated for me within this series! I absolutely CRAVED for Adele’s story, she was the one character that I absolutely adored from the very beginning, and could relate too with the independent, kinda grumpy vibe she has.
We see glimpses of her and Finn in this series and the TENSION the ANGST…we saw VERY little, and yet it had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation for them
I absolutely loved them! It was so cute seeing how smitten he was with her, how from the very beginning he wanted her, but because of his family that caused a bridge between the two, it made hate seep into Adele at the sight of him,
She despised him because of who he was related too, and refused to let herself enjoy his company, even when within certain moments, it was clear there chemistry was un-ignorable.
I really loved how Finn didn’t try and change her, the short temper, and smart mouth she has, along with that strength and pier she processes in a room, he loved it all, and never attempted to have that part of her hide or changed.
It was absolutely ADORABLE at how obsessed he was with her….he was so patient with her, and understanding, and the way he was such a caring dad too his daughter 🥹
But don’t let the kindness fool you, the man’s a FREAKY FREAK! I’m tellin y’all😩 it’s the quiet ones!
Anywho, I really recommend you guys pick this series up if you haven’t, although it’s not necessary to read them in order, I do recommend it! Cus the suspense in these books kinda continues on within this series, and wraps up in this book! It was so so good and (I knew it😏If ya read the book you’ll also know the tea on the suspense part)
I will leave this at that, because honestly you needa really the loathe to love goodness on your own!

Finn and Adele stole my whole freaking heart!! I could have asked for a better story for these two because it felt true and authentic to who these two are there is nothing neat or perfect about them and that’s what I love so freaking much. These two were real, so raw and had me all in my feels whether they were arguing or getting spicy I couldn’t get enough! These lumberjack men are on a whole other level of sexy!! The Lovewell series is amazing and I suggest reading every book because you get something special with each couple.

I knew Adele’s story would be worth the wait and I was not disappointed. Adele was such a strong female character I wasn’t sure there could be an adequate match for her. Boy was I wrong! I think everyone needs an emotional support Viking! The buildup, the banter, the spicy scenes and the HEA with no third act breakup made this a great enemies to lovers tale! All with lumberjacks and lumberjills with a bit of suspense.

I have been patiently waiting for Adele's story and Ms. Daphne did not disappoint!
I loved everything about Adele & Finn and their complicated romance; the sexual tension, and the playful banter... and of course, their first time when they were storm stayed? *fans self*
I am sad that this is goodbye to the Gagnons but eager to see what is going to be next.

Worth the wait. Loved this. Wish it had not taken quite so much time for the ending to appear. I would've liked to see how all the couples hung out together but it was lovely!

Adele and Finn are one my favorite couples that Daphne Elliot has ever written! Adele is a no holds barred bad a$$ female, strong in her convictions, and she never says quit. Finn is an ex-military, laid back, single dad of a tween girl, who knows what he wants and is willing to wait to go after her.
I love that Finn has had feelings for Adele for years, since they were in school together, but he hadn't shot his shot with her until after he was back home from the military. They had one hot encounter a few years before the start of this story, but a lot has happened after that, and Adele hates everyone in his family. Or, she thought she did. Until she learned there is so much more to Finn than she ever anticipated, and he is not as she thought he would be. I love that Adele is a tough chic, who softens for Finn. And I adore the relationship that Adele forms with Finn's daughter.

Let me go ahead and lead with my one complaint: the tswift references. I get it that for some reason beyond my comprehension, everyone and their moms are obsessed with her, but for the love of God, please stop it with the constant references..I am begging you!!! There is not a shortage of pop stars out that every dang book needs to specifically mention her once in every other chapter. For this reason alone, I had to knock it down a star.
Now that I got that out of my system..the rest of this book is perfection! Granted, there are a couple of repetitive points, but everything else just hit me right in the feels. This is my first read by this author and I quite enjoyed her writing. It was smart and funny, without being annoying or corny..and yet still emotional and gripping. I appreciate the way she wrote Adele's character so much! As a woman who has been told countless times that I intimidate men and that I come off as a b!tch..and that's why I still haven't found mr right-it is so validating to see a character who is strong and unapologetic because she knows there is someone out there who will love all her jagged edges and not feel threatened by her intelligence or capabilities.
Does she unjustly hate him for something that he isn't responsible for? Yes. Does she have a crappy attitude and is actively mean to him even after he's expressed interest? Also yes. But, is he patient and understanding, and allows her to feel however she feels because he understands she is grieving and hurt? Yes! Finn is the perfect match for her! He is protective but also loves that she actively chooses him. He provides her enough comfort that she allows herself to be vulnerable for once. She finds comfort in knowing that she doesn't have to do it all on her own, he will be her partner through it all and carry some of the load too. I didn't even mind the surprise pregnancy! They are both in their 30's, and I feel like it was something they both wanted in the future anyways, so it was a happy accident.
This one won't be for everyone. There are some readers who aren't willing to acknowledge their internalized misogyny and will say Adele is too much and Finn deserves better blablabla. That kind of attitude is the reason why the author wrote Adele the way she did, and I love her for it! But, if you're open to reading about a different type of heroine who for once isn't described as a petite delicate flower and you also love a big alpha Viking cinnamon roll of a hero, then this is definitely worth the read!!
I plan on starting back at one and reading the other books in the series now that I've met the other brothers and their partners. I wanna know all their stories!

I could not get into this book.
Adele and Finn's story is very much a slow burn, angsty romance, but I got to 60% of the book and I just did not care about them together. Adele came off as an outwardly rude and cruel towards Finn, when she could have been written in a way that didn't make her seem like a complete b****. I feel like Daphne Elliot did Adele dirty here.
I've read the previous three books in the series and this was my least favorite (obviously, I couldn't finish it).
Adele is still grieving the death of her father and taking the whole drug ring situation hard. I can understand that. What I don't understand is how she is unable to separate Finn from the actions of his father. She even says she's being childish and petty. Other people say she needs to get over her hang ups and treat Finn with a modicum of respect, Adele acknowledges this and does the complete opposite. She initially shit talks Finn to the rest of her team who he has to work with, is beyond rude in her interactions with him as his supervisor (think, "Get the f*** out of my office, you don't get to talk to me."), and makes backhanded comments about Finn to his daughter in front of him.
Adele could be grieving her father, upset about past wrongs, and be a civil human being that doesn't verbally abuse people that work for her. If Adele was written as someone who was ambivalent about Finn or even cold to him, and still did all of the things in the book, I think I would have been able to finish this. At this point, Adele's character reminds me of people who say, "Yeah, people say I'm mean, so I will be the worst person there is."
