Young Love With Problems
Having read about the four Stag brothers it is wonderful to read about their next generation. And the book is so much fun, even with the psychological and professional problems both MCs are facing.
Wyatt is an undergraduate on the brink of a professional soccer career when he meets Fern on New Year’s Eve in a bar where she works. Their one night stand is an epic experience for both, but they don’t know how to reconnect. Fern, a mathematical whizz woman, is also an undergraduate at the same school and starting an extracurricular job as a TA. And they meet again. But as student and teacher a relationship is definitely frown upon and can be disastrous for Fern’s future career.
Their love affair is sweet and steamy, with a lot of rocks on their path. Problems from the past rise again and relight the old traumas for Wyatt. Trust in and accepting help from others is not easy.
The way their lives and problems are portrayed are very realistic, as is the way they solve them. I felt with and for them, laughed and shed some tears. Enjoyed reading this book very much and couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

So Swoony! 💕

Wyatt is an undergraduate with an eye on his future career as a professional football (soccer) player. He meets Fern on New Year’s Eve in a bar where she works. Fern meanwhile is looking forward to her senior year TA position at university. She is taken aback by her attraction to Wyatt as he sits and reads at the bar and they hit it off. Their night ends with an epic one-night stand but Fern slips out without leaving her contact information. They are both then shocked to see each other again, but this time as student-teacher because Fern’s role as a TA has put her in the position of Wyatt being her student. This throws a wrench into the mix because as student and teacher, a relationship is definitely inappropriate and frowned upon. And it would have disastrous consequences for Fern’s future career. They decide that going forward, they will keep all interactions on a professional level but this proves impossible with their level of chemistry and attraction.

Wyatt and Fern’s story is so sweet, with lots of steam. Although this story is sweet, our protagonists still have some battles to overcome within their relationship, as well as in their individual personal lives. Specifically with Wyatt, some traumas from his past seem set to derail his future. I loved seeing him work through so much which led to so much growth and trust in his family. It was also lovely seeing him learning that asking and accepting help sometimes is definitely okay and that you don’t always need to tackle everything all by yourself. I definitely felt all the feels for our characters and was rooting for them in their relationship and their personal lives. I laughed and I also shed a few tears lol. With Forging Legacy, Lainey Davis created a wonderful story for Wyatt and Fern. As with all the Stag universe stories, I also enjoyed seeing characters from other books show up, it made the world all the richer. I really enjoyed this one!

As with the rest of the Forging Series narration was done by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker. Their voices as always perfectly captured the characters, their personalities, and all their emotions throughout the book. They were the perfect duo to bring Wyatt and Fern’s story to life.

Thanks to the author, Lainey Davis, and the team at HomeCooked Books for providing me with an advanced audio review copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are entirely my own.

swoony and sweet!

Fern and Wyatt were incendiary from the beginning. I loved how sweet they are and how Wyatt makes Fern a little spicy. They both encourage each other to chase their dreams, and support the other endlessly. Just so sweet!

I came into the story of the Stag family a little bit in the middle with Wyatt and I know I’m going to have to read all about all of them now. But Wyatt? He’s pretty special. Sexy stellar hockey player about to go pro; he should feel like he’s on easy street. But there’s a lot of worry going on in that gorgeous head of his. He’s got to finish school, but what’s really stressing him out is that his scum-of-the-earth biological father is trying to get money from him and threatening him in the process. He is so afraid to put his real family, the one that raised him, the one that loves him, the one he loves and needs, in jeopardy or expose them to any possible harm, so he keeps things to himself. Until the night that cute bartender he’s been watching for a while leans over the bar just so and he thinks maybe tonight could be a happy one for a change. He almost always keeps his head down, appoints himself the designated driver, but perhaps tonight could be different, could be fun.

Fern is equally stressed but for different reasons. Also about to finish school, she’s pinning all her hopes and dreams on winning a position in England after graduation. She needs the grades and the recommendation of the professor she’s TA’ing for. She’s passed up a lot of experiences and opportunities keeping her nose to the grindstone and she’s promised herself that she’ll raise her nose from that grindstone just once and get that one special experience she’s so far denied herself. She’s noticed Wyatt before, too, and maybe tonight could be the night.

On the surface Wyatt the hockey stud and Fern the math brainiac seem very different, but somehow they just fit and it’s so sweet. Gets the story off to a great start. Under the blindingly handsome, hot exterior he is very romantic, well-mannered and considerate. Fern may not mention that one little fact but she is enthusiastic and fearless, easy to talk to and comfortable with him. It is, in fact, a very good night for both of them. Of course she is gone in the morning. You know, future goals, no entanglements. He fleetingly wishes there could be more but you know, current problems and future goals. So not having a way to really contact her is okay; they will each have good memories.

Until he walks into the Math Recitation class and – whoa! – guess who the TA is? She goes into immediate panic: this could look like a conflict of interest, ruin her chances for that position, they can’t even really act like they know each other, they definitely can’t be seen together.

But much to her dismay, time with him feels so good and she wants more, even if just for a little while. So they aren’t exactly able to ignore each other. And that leads to other things and other things and . . . well, you’ll just have to read it for yourself. Wyatt is so sweet and protective and caring, not just of Fern but of his entire family. He sees himself as the outsider who might mess everything up, and Fern feels like a lifeline, a safe place. She worries about and wants to ease his troubles if she can.

Don’t worry, it’s not all just sticky sweet stuff (which is lovely BTW). There are a lot of steamy, scorching scenes. And a whole lot of humor, including their little getaway (see, they can’t stay apart) at his family’s cabin that is supposed to be empty. Did he forget to check the family sign-up? You’ll be laughing out loud.

Thanks to author Lainey Davis for providing an advance copy of Forging Legacy, Book 2 in the Forging series. I absolutely loved it, plan to go back right now and catch up on the rest of the family and can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s an entertaining, satisfying story about dreams, family, facing adversity, doing what’s right, and then finally letting yourself do what feels right, too. There’s a bonus scene as well that gives you a perfect little glimpse into their future. Sigh. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

Finishing up her last evening bartending on New Year’s Eve and looking forward to her senior year TA position at university, Fern finally decides to act on her attraction to the soda-drinking designated driver who reads as he sits at the bar, waiting for his companions.

Professional soccer prospect Wyatt has always felt an outsider in the family who embraced him and his mother when he was barely out of his toddlerhood. After yet another threat from his biological father to cause harm to those he loves, Wyatt is drawn to the bartender who propositions him for a no strings one night stand.

After Fern slips out without leaving any contact info while Wyatt sleeps, she’s rattled when she sees the hulking athlete in the group she’s assigned to on her first day as the algebra teaching assistant.

Wyatt and Fern agree to keep their encounter secret and also not to repeat it. Those plans go awry as their attraction and close proximity as well as their similar backgrounds intensify their feelings toward each other.

When the schemes Wyatt’s biological father engages him puts a target on Fern’s back and jeopardizes her future, their budding relationship is shattered.

This was another lovely volume in the new generation Stag family series. As in the prequel and first novel, the reader is treated to appearances from many beloved past characters. This story as did the others centers around themes of family, found and otherwise, fitting in, class struggles, and mental health. Lainey Davis writes steamy books with great depth involving complex characters.

I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading future installments.

I was fortunate to have been furnished an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m happy to share my honest review.

Wyatt DeLuca is a senior soccer player at Pittsburg University, following into the footsteps of many prior and current Stag family members. He’s looking forward to leaving Pittsburg and his biological father after graduation. Workaholic virgin Fern Montgomery is also a senior at PU and tending bar on the side this New Year’s Eve with Wyatt at the bar serving as a designated driver. They chat, one thing leads to another which leads to a phenomenal one night stand at his apartment.

They meet again in class, only not as classmates in Algebra I because Wyatt is the student, and Fern is the professor’s teaching assistant, so they conclude together that they must keep their relationship on a professional level only, which is easier said than done apparently because they can’t stay away from each other, no matter the consequences.

There is another challenge facing the young soccer star - his biological father’s intrusion and determination to take down the family if they don’t surrender to his blackmail demands for money. And “family” is the operative word. As Wyatt struggles unsuccessfully to handle the situation on his own, his entire family surrounds him with love and support, just as they have time and time again with others.

Lainey Davis has done it again, in stunning style, as she creates a perfect story for Wyatt and Fern that includes their mothers, her best friend Thora, and his extended Stag family. I so absolutely loved every page that I was a noodle at the end having experienced every emotion under the sun. Forging Legacy is a tour de force worthy of the highest accolades, so don’t miss it!

I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.

Forging Legacy by Lainey Davis is part of her second generation series connected to the Stag Brother series. And while you can read this as a standalone, it’s so much fun to see the connection between the previous generation characters. I love when they show up in this story. Wyatt and Eve meet in a bar on New Year’s Eve and have what they think will be a one night stand. They then run into each other again when Wyatt walks into a math class and Eve is the TA. There’s so much attraction there, but tension too, as Eve can’t risk her position as a TA for this relationship. Wyatt is dealing with his own unresolved issues stemming from feeling like an outsider in his family. The trauma that he carries his birth father follows him in adulthood and threatens him, his family and his career as a professional soccer player. There’s a bit of opposites attract here as Eve is more of an academic and looking to continue her math studies in graduate school and Wyatt is an emerging soccer pro. But these two are drawn to each other, even with the obstacles that they face. Forging Legacy is a combination of a sweet love story with a happily ever after with plenty of spice, humor, and family interactions that make for a really great story. As always, Lainey Davis builds a wonderful world that is so relatable that you feel like you could know some of her characters. I can wait to read the rest of this series!

Lainey Davis brings us another great soccer romance in her Forging series, in the Stag universe, but with a great twist on the professor and student trope. The pair, Wyatt and Fern, are opposite to the typical, with Wyatt being a student in Fern’s undergrad math class where she’s a TA. They met and had a great evening (new years eve at the bar where she works, and he joined his brothers and cousins), before the start of the new semester…

Davis has so many series, families and crossover that it’s always incredible when reading any of her books which other characters pop up that you can pick out - this one has not just previous Stag family coming up, but mentions of multiple others. I’ve read so many of her series and books but not all, so I’m sure I missed some…

She also tackles some very difficult topics and issues, like the previous in this series about an assault by a coach. This one hits on media unfairly and improperly covering sports in a way that can truly harm careers, as well as how important real family is and communication when someone is dealing with huge problems (that could become legal issues).

Another fantastic read and as with all her books, I highly recommend this, and all of Davis’s back catalogue! You’ll be happy you picked this book up! She’s a beautiful author and her romances and tough topics are very thoroughly researched, and you can definitely see the heart and soul she infuses throughout all her words.

I received an advance copy from the author, and this is my honest opinion.

Forging Legacy
Forging, Book 2
By: Lainey Davis
Narrated by: Janine Granda, Bryant Walker

After one night of passion, Fern and Wyatt find themselves in a precarious situation. Fern is the teacher's assistant for one of his classes. Now she needs him to just come to class and pretend like nothing happened. Her future endeavors count on it. But these two find out that there was more to their one night than just a physical attraction. As Fern begins to get to know him, and as Wyatt already knows, they just can't stay away from each other. Sneaking around, enjoying each other even if just studying, it's exciting and feelings are beginning to develop.Where does it all lead? First, I love soccer. The back story for this one is so good, as the Stag family rallies. There is so much love and so much support it's wonderful. Wyatt is a lucky guy. And not just because of his family, but Fern is the perfect match. Ambitious, not letting anything keep her from her dream, she is set with a plan. I loved this story, from start to finish and it's a great addition to the series.

Janine Granda and Bryant Walker continue their narration of this series, and I love them together. They each bring the fun, the new adult sound, and the emotions to their character and make the story fly by. It's a great performance.

Another 5 star read / listen from Davis. This is book 2 in the spin off series Forging and I absolutely loved it! Our main characters are Wyatt and Fern. Wyatt is struggling with finding his legacy both within his family as well as in his career and life. Fern is needing to let loose and finds that an unforgettable one night on New Year's Eve comes back with more than memories, could have life altering consequences. I loved the family comrade as well as the balance of sweet and steam. A life where fame can come with past hurts and baggage. I struggled a bit with Fern's character; she was so devoted to her academic career that for me she lost a bit of her humanity and was more selfish that she should have been portrayed but I also understand the need to reflect her drive and lifelong goal being in danger. All in all, I loved the characters and the storyline. I loved how smooth everything flowed, and the dual narration was perfection in bringing all our characters and emotions to life. I loved it and can't wait for more!

This book was given to me for free at my request as part of a box set thanks to HCB and I voluntarily provided this review.

Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5)
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧 (0-5)
Overall: 4.5/5
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 (0-5)

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 The narration, by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker, is fun, cute, and hot—all the feels on high!
🤩 I like the instant attraction and sizzling chemistry.
🤩 The secret identity and secret virgin are a couple things that make this hook-up extra intriguing.
🤩 Then we get a student-TA situation! I love me some forbidden romance.
🤩 Very realistic and well written characterization.
🤩 It’s so cute how Wyatt thinks Fern is funny, even in class. And gets turned on by her smartness!
🤩 It’s so good how they become such loving, supportive friends during the slow burn.
🤩 Sneaking around, yes please!
🤩 Lainey Davis writes steamy scenes that are a fabulous combination of flirty, vulnerable, and intimate.
🤩 The actual time on the field is great, especially with the impending drama.
🤩 I love a protective and caring MMC!!

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 Why am I hearing Bryant Walker’s inhales more than I remember in the last story? Maybe I’m just irritable and it’s like when my husband’s chewing bothers me only when I’m moody.

This series just keeps getting better!!! Fern and Wyatt were amazing!
Wyatt’s story is emotional. He’s trying to get his last name changed from his bio father to his dad’s last name. His biological father is truly a piece of work! He was awful in Hawk’s book Beautiful Game, and he really hasn’t seemed to change. The most heartbreaking thing though was that even after all this time he didn’t really feel like he was part of the Stag family. I loved how when everything came to a head his whole family rallied around him.
I loved Fern! She was sweet and so intelligent, and was really working hard to achieve her goals and dreams! I liked that she took a chance with Wyatt. Who knew how absolutely scorching hot they’d be together!!!!
This really may be in my top three of all the Stag related books! I can’t wait for the next one in the series!

Forging Legacy- Lainey Davis
Narrated by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Narration 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

This book was so swoony. Wyatt made me feel all the feels. From his traumatic past with his bio father to feeling accepted by his “new” family after his mom married his “step”father when he was 4. Even though he’s been in this family for over 15 years at this point, he still felt like the outsider. I loved how both he and Fern encouraged each other to follow their dreams even though they were separate from each other. Wyatt and Fern’s chemistry is sizzling from the very beginning, but when Wyatt walks into his class on the first day of the semester and sees his NYE ONS is his new TA they both know they have to steer clear of each other other even though the pull to each other is something fierce.

Janine and Bryant knocked it out of the park once again as Wyatt and Fern in this dual narration.

Fern and Wyatt both smart, driven and so ready to move on.
There story starts on New Year's Eve with Fern looking to start the New Year as a woman enjoying life a little more freely and Wyatt he just really wanted to enjoy this incredibly beautiful, smart, and kind woman.
Little do either of them know things are about to get complicated when the happen to end up in the same class, Wyatt as a student and Fern as a TA. This is not a good scenario for either of them.
But their connection is real, their feelings can't be denied, but the obstacles are plenty and seems to only be multiplying! Can they stand together and take on everything, will Wyatt let his family stand by his side when he needs the support? There are so many issues also covered in this story, and done so beautifully I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This was the first book I have read in the second generation Stag Brothers and I can't wait to read more of this series. This book was about Wyatt who is Hawk's stepson, which is one of the original Stag Brothers. We get to dive into Wyatt and Fern's story. Let me tell you this was a great story. I absolutely loved the characters in this book. The characters and story are well written and enjoyable. There is only one bad character and that's Wyatt's bio dad. I loved how this was a sweet but spicy romance story with so much heart. Their families are so sweet and I loved how they were so supportive and wanted to be there for each other. This book is a quick read that you won't want to put down. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you Lainey Davis for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Wyatt is an undergraduate, soon to be having a professional soccer career. He meets Fern on New Year’s Eve in the bar where she works. They have an incredible night together. Fern is also an undergraduate at the same school and she is starting an extracurricular job as a TA. They meet again, but student/teacher relationships are frowned upon and can destroy Fern’s future career. But they forge ahead with bumps on their road, but they overcome it all. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a teacher/student, soccer romance then you’re going to love it.

It’s the Magnetic Plot for Me

Another 5 star storyline and plot from Lainey Davis. She is fast becoming a favorite for me, an author I know will hit it out of the park every time! The words she marries together to bring this story to life and transport me to the sidelines for the best view possible are amazing. Wyatt and Fern have an instant connection, but it’s never that simple, is it? Fern has worked hard her whole life for her opportunity, and it’s fast approaching. Wyatt has a good life that is heading to even better places, if he can keep his past in the past. All together, a fabulous story and I was here for all the suspense, excitement, love, and happiness. Go give this a read!

Fern meet Wyatt while she's bartending. They hit it off both out of the bedroom and in it. They are both seniors in college. She's hoping to continue her education in London and he is looking for a professional soccer career in Mexico. She is shocked when she finds him in her classroom, where she's taken on a role as a TA, even though she's an undergrad.

Even though Wyatt has a huge extended family that is loving and so inclusive, his biological father is causing problems for him. And Fern is concerned that Wyatt is her student. So there is stress, along with passion and career goals.

This is a sexy college sports, close-knit family and friends story.

Fern and Wyatt

I listen to the audio. The narrators did a good job telling Fern and Wyatt's story.
Fern is a bartender and Wyatt is the designated driver that sits in the corner of the bar reading while his cousins enjoy themselves. Fern decides to throw caution to the wind and proposition him. Then finds him as a student she is a TA for. I enjoyed listening to this story. I found it entertaining and hot. This I found out is the second generation story and I plan to read/listen to the parents and their story. Doesn't need to be read in order.

I received a copy from Home Cooked Books and listened to it through BookFunnel.

More Stags - Yay. I do enjoy a trip to Pittsburgh to visit with the Stags and the next generation are just as much fun as their fathers and uncles. Wyatt is Hawk's son and is following in his father's footsteps on the soccer field. After a steamy New Year's Eve, he discovers his one night stand is actually his Math Professor's TA - Oops. Fern and Wyatt's story is sweet, a little angsty and a lot steamy. I love how the whole family pull together when their problems appear insurmountable and of course there's a happily ever after

Wow! I truly love Wyatt and Ferns story. It starts as a very HOT one night stand and turns into so much more. These two have some parental baggage that very much affects their views on relationships that they must work through. I love their journey to an HEA and all the very supportive Stag family members. Definitely an emotional read at times so be prepared. Another great 4. Star book in this series. I can't wait for the next book.

Forging Legacy by Lainey Davis is the sweet story of Wyatt and Fern. They meet and really hit it off! Little do they know that they’re in for a huge shock! Neither saw this coming…and now, its impossible for them to be together.

I loved this sweet, quirky, emotional story! Wyatt has huge dreams and has plans to leave as soon as they are fulfilled. Fern has her own dreams that she’s pursuing and Wyatt could, unknowingly, ruin everything and destroy her hopes.

Sweet, touching, sizzling story that melted my heart!

Forging Legacy feels so real I expect to run into Fern and Wyatt if i ever visit Pittsburg! Fern might be my spirit animal- type A, hard working, quick on her feet, Fern is smart and I loved rooting for her to finally live a little and let love derail her plans!... but I also respected that she works too hard to let some guy ruin her future goals. Wyatt makes me love him if only because he accepts that Ferns goals are important and if he wants the girl, he'll have to put in the work. His sizzling attention in the bedroom doesn't hurt either.

Wyatt and Fern have what they thought was a one night stand but fate interferes and they come face to face again in the most unexpected way.

Their attraction to one another is undeniable but they have to hide their relationship. They are full of passion and love for one another. Both are facing some personal issue that they help one another work through.

Both Wyatt and Fern are thoughtful, loving and caring people. They just need to stay strong to fight their adversaries.

Forging Legacy is the second book in the Forging series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Wyatt and Fern had a one-night stand and ran into each other again in class…but she was his teacher’s assistant.

The two of them couldn’t be together, but they also couldn’t stay away. Despite being different, they had a real connection.

This also handled some very real and hard issues. It was a bit angsty, sweet, and a great read.

I liked this twist on the student/professor trope. The characters are great. Fern and Wyatt both have vulnerabilities and I think that's why they pair together so nicely. This is my first Stag novel but I want to go back and read them all. I enjoyed the plot as well. Overall a good read I binged in a few hours.

Fern has had her eye on Wyatt for a bit, and she finally gets to spend some time with him. It's great, but neither of them can pursue things further. That's the end of that. Until he walks into her algebra recitation. Oops. They are drawn to each other, though, and they begin to realize that they have some key things in common. How will they work out the huge obstacles they face?

Audiobook Review

Wyatt and Fern’s sweet and smoky love story shows that nerdy and sporty can work. I loved how Wyatt was all in and protected Fern above everything even when going through such a tough time himself.
Janine Granda and Bryant Walker were great as the main characters but also when narrating as the other secondary characters. Stellar performance.
