For Thirteen Paths: A Halloween Anthology, a trio of authors pen thirteen different stories, and they seem determined to capture the spirit of the season.
One story in this anthology stands out in this collection. “Unseasonable” is about trick-or-treaters going door to door in a sudden winter storm that knocks out power. It is off-beat, frightening, well-conceived, and smartly executed.
Other fine segments include: “I Know a Place” (mysterious and twisty), “The Tunnel” (excellent use of POV), and “Good Horror” (would fit well in Creepshow). “Thinking of You,” while not scary, has Halloween in its bone marrow.
