Playwright, scriptwriter, poet, novelist, former diplomat, Francisco José Alonso Vellozo Azevedo was born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1951. His plays Unha e Carne (Joined at the Hip) and A Casa de Anais Nin (Anais Nin’s House) won public and critical acclaim, having been produced in Brazil and abroad. His first novel, O Arroz de Palma (Palma’s Rice), has enchanted dozens of thousands of Brazilian readers, who became and are now ardent publicity agents for Francisco’s work. His second novel, Doce Gabito (Sweet Gabito), has just been published to great success.
