I love this book! I recently became vegetarian with the goal of being vegan. I like how there's 4 weeks of meal plans along with recipes! I can't wait to try them out!
3.5 stars rounded up. I adore Kiki, and her cheese sauce is life, so I was really excited for this latest release. The first half is an explanation of how to eat, and the second half is recipes. This book is very similar to Plantifully Lean, which I prefer. That book has a great section on the emotional aspects of changing your diet and the recipes are skewed to more classic dishes. The recipes in this book seem to have a more Central American and Asian lean, which didn't appeal to my family. Especially my picky eaters. And both books scale recipes for one to two servings, which can be great, or a little inconvenient, depending on your circumstances. Both books are excellent sources of information on the low fat, high carb way of eating and the photography is wonderful. Depending on your favorite foods one book will probably speak to you more than the other, so you really don't need both.
I loved the approach Kiki takes in her health and weight loss journey.Food volume is discussed in its entirety. She goes to great lengths to help the reader understand what foods to avoid that are calorie dense. In addition what foods to consume in abundance and has a healthy perspective on setting yourself up for success. There are meal plans recipes and so much more in her latest cookbook. She spends a good amount of time on laying things out so it’s easy to see where she’s coming from. In addition the recipes don’t call for items that are hard to find they are more than likely already in your pantry for the most part. That means a lot to me especially when grocery prices are skyrocketing these days.
I didn't get this for the calorie counting part but for the plant based and balanced meals. I am growing a LOT of veggies this year and was looking for new ideas. Also, I just eat very little meat and water looking for recipes that weren't all bean based to compensate for meat replacement. There were a lot of good recipe options that I plan to add into our meal rotation. I think my favorite was the samosa wraps. I love samosas but don't do well with fried foods...and baked doesn't taste the same. But these look delicious and with the filling in a softer wrapper will probably a better balance in texture and flavor than baked.
Gorgeous to look at. Made me want to make almost every recipe.
The first part of the book goes over how to lose weight on a plant-based diet, including a weekly meal plan. But soon enough we get into the 100 recipes. As a vegetarian who is not too fond of cooking, I found a lot of recipes here that make me want to expand my food horizons. And I am happy that most recipes were appropriate for 1-2 servings.
Interesting read. I have made one delicious recipe so far and, if the next ones I make are as good I will change to 5 stars.
Edited: I’ve made a few recipes now and they have all been simple and delicious. A great healthy cookbook. I’m feeling better for cooking/ eating from this book for a week.
I'm going plant based and love that everything is explained in this book and the story about how she does meal prep and journaling her foods is very helpful I have Hashimoto's and i'm hoping this helps with my inflammation
