The War of Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles
by Steven Pressfield
Original Book
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.
Though it was crafted for writers, it has been embraced by business entrepreneurs, actors, dancers, painters, photographers, filmmakers, military service members, and thousands of others around the world.
There is a lot of talking in circles and undefined terms in this book summary. There are MUCH better motivational books, lectures, speeches, heck even Instagram captions. 99% of the examples of greatness and "inspirational" quotes were from men. The "advice" isn't really achievable or obtainable for the majority of people. If you have a job to pay bills, need to raise children, or maintain the basic cooking and cleaning of life, then it's not realistic to walk away from all of that to only write or make art. On top of all of that, the author says to only make art or write for the purity of it. Not to make money, become famous, or win prizes for it. Honestly, I believe people can make time for what they love, and if that is art, then great. If they need that time to rest, that's great too. Life comes in seasons and waves. You won't always be in a busy season, and free time will eventually come back. You don't have to give everything up to focus on one thing. That way, madness lies. Balance and consistency are key. It's as simple as that. Do the best you can with what you have. If I had to guess, I would say this author has resources most people don't. Good for him, but we don't have to live like that or compare. Instead, spend that time somewhere else. To save you even more time, don't read this summary or the book.
