How Wrong Can a Hookup Go?Cassie knew exactly what she was looking for when she trawled the world of mobile dating to find the perfect man for an afternoon of rough, kinky, CNC fantasy. She only did this once a year, and this time it was going to be extra special. But, there was just one problem...

Rich thinks he's hit the jackpot when he meets a hot older woman on a dating app. She's gorgeous and all she wants is a hookup. One afternoon of no-strings-attached fun.

But is Rich man enough to tie her up and play the role of aggressor in her dark, twisted, and violent fantasy?

And what will happen when Rich unties and ungags her and she tells him she has no idea who he is or why he did what he did.

Neither Rich nor Cassie knew that things would all go so terribly, darkly, disturbingly wrong.

Woohoo, review 300!! I think that I said it prior, but just in case, I am so sorry that it took me this long to hook into the Barns Brothers. Their books are so good and just scream the very definition of horror. Now kink does have several content warnings, and I assure you that they are all necessary. Pretty much the entire book consists of blood, gore, torture, rape, blood (The amount warranted me repeating it.) and all of those things that make you uncomfortable and squeamish. But none of it comes across like an attempt at a low level splatterpunk, or an excuse to just write some ugly, explicit sexual content, and is all placed and detailed appropriately. So while the content is just nasty and vicious, it all has a purpose. That alone says a lot about the writing abilities of the Barns Bros. Now I had a feeling where the story was headed, and my predictions were spot on, but it didn’t affect my level of interest in the least. Cassie is such a complicated character, and as you read her, you see why Rich falls under her spell. You want to look away, but you can’t. She’s got you hook, line, and sinker. And you’ll find yourself diving deeper into her basement of horrors, enjoying your stay until the bitter end, as her personal little ‘cellar meat’ toy. I laughed a lot in the beginning with the exchanges between Rich and Jake, and wanted some more background on them, but that is my only minor critique here. Everything else here was awesome. If you enjoy the likes of Yolanda Olson and Jayson Robert Ducharme, you need to jump into the world of the Barns Brothers.

“It was time for a pain the world had never seen before. The destruction of a human so brutal and horrific that the screams of his soul would echo for eternity, the anguish so deep its bottom could never be found.”

Pure splatterpunk erotic fire! I’m gonna let my freak flag fly here a bit Goodreads while one of you hoses me down. This book was so damn hot and delicious, I literally died from carnal gluttony. My ghost is leaving this review.

I was hooked. My skin tingled. My brain went fuzzy. I was drunk on euphoria. I couldn’t put the damn book down and this was for a Buddy Read so I was supposed to take my time. I couldn’t. I wanted to devour it. I wanted to be devoured. And because it ignited such a feral high, when it was over, what a severe dopamine drop. This dark bombshell beauty was packed with creativity, wit, and imagination. It left me with all my senses heightened wanting a cigarette and I don’t even smoke.

“An amalgam of sexual excess and demonic elegance, as likely to fuck you as tear out your heart.” –Clive Barker

To my Reading Buddy Ron.e, we were gripped from the beginning! lol So of course we both got lost in it, can’t blame us one bit. I enjoyed your company and the book immensely. I’ll hop on a literary ride with you anytime.

Who’s Hungry!!

This was a lot of fun! Told from the perspectives of the 2 main characters, Cassie and Rich. Totally did not think that the story would go the way it did, but it was just perfect. Lots of blood, gore, and sex, that fans of extreme horror absolutely love. The ending was a hoot, and not what I was expecting! Beware of anyone offering you a meal of cellar-meat!! Lots of fun!

This book got real crazy real fast. Lots of descriptive gore, but definately a fresh twist on a very underappreciated subject matter.

This story captivated me!
Why ?
Because I never read something like that.
It was funny, kinky ( depraved might be the correct word), brutal and very gore .
I recommend it to splatterpunk’s fan .

I’ve let her keep her mouth, and tongue and even her teeth. She wouldn’t ever dare hurt me, because if she did… well… things wouldn’t work out well for her, would they?

I keep her well fed, too. Not only does she get laid almost as often as me, I let her feed on whatever I can’t consume.

Well, I think that’s enough for my first journal entry. It’s taken me long enough just to write this.

I don't really know where to start with a review for this strange and weird book...but I'll try...so here goes🤨
The first 50% was great, enjoyable and rather kinky and I thought it deserved 5 stars...but then it totally changed and I thought that I was reading from a different book...I couldn't get my brain around the story from there on...I found myself shouting "STOP" what the hell is going on???
The last 50% was awful, stupid and annoying,I hated it and the character's behaviour was unbelievable to say the least.
And that ending...just bloody NO!!! A Bitch In A Bag...PLEASE!!
This started off with real excitement...and ended with total disappointment 😞😥
I can only squeeze out 2 💩💩⭐⭐'s

This is magical realism of the mindfuck kind. In Barns's Kink-world, everyone, everything, even a hunk of meat for all intents and purposes, can and will have an erection in the presence of Cassie. That she might be nibbling/ripping/tearing the meat off said hunk is as irrelevant as a man-boob at a topless party. Reading graphic descriptions of sex that go on and on is not to my liking but the author has achieved something extraordinarily 'kinky' here by presenting it with such a delicious icing of gore that I could breeze through it, stopping only to savour the imagery and have some mental orgasms to enhance the fun.

I'll surely read more from this author.

“I’d never done anything like this before. I’d slept with girls, sure.
But not like this.
Not. Like. This.”

College student Rich finds himself lucky to have connected with a girl who begs him to fulfill her online fantasy in real life.

“I’ve got a fantasy...
What?
Promise you won’t think it’s weird?
Promise
It’s... I want you to, just come into my house, and... do me.”

What Rich isn’t aware of is Cassie has more planned than just some sexual pent up frustrations. I don’t want to spoil the story but Kink: A tale of extreme horror is exactly as it sounds plus some extra unexpected supernatural twists. This story comes at you from both Cassie and Rich’s perspective at different times which is a delight because who doesn’t want both the killer and killies point of view. The flow is great, the death is beautiful and the execution was scrumptious. My personal favorite was the mention of my name towards the end...

“There was one funny occasion thought with some Goth girl called Tina or fucktard or something (I forget) who listened to one whole tape with growing excitement all the way through. By the time it finished she’d removed her panties from under her leather miniskirt and was furiously fingering herself. I had fun with that one, I tell you.”

You clearly did not forget Rich... because Tina’s are great, I should know I am one and yes I was/internally am a Goth and still whip the leather out of my closet when duty calls.

Warnings to heed when choosing to read Kink: A tale of horror
Non con/rape
Death 💀
Cannibalism with heavy sexual elements, not for the faint
Torture, violence and all that gore

4.5 stars, rounded up.

That was... odd. I ended this wondering what in the hell did I just read? I've read some pretty warped stuff over the years and this book ranks right up there. I'm not going to type a 'proper' review but I will say I enjoyed the hell out of it. If you read it, you'll think I'm sick for saying that.

You'd probably be right. ;)

It's erotic.
It's warped.
It's gross in a lot of places.

It's also a well-written horror story and there is an actual story in the middle of the other stuff. It also ended with a twist I didn't see coming. Normally I see things coming early in a book so anytime I can be surprised I'm happy.

If you're squeamish or opposed to anything really, don't read this. You won't be doing the author any favors. If you're a true horror reader (like me) and aren't bothered by blood and a bit of gore, this should be right up your alley.

I really enjoyed this.. I wasn't expecting a twist like that, nearly got the 5 stars it just felt at times with the characters and near the ending lacked that certain je ne sais quoi.

Femme fatale needs a snickers and ends up being pork not ham 😁

Kink by The Barns Brothers paints a disturbing canvas of modern dating gone wrong. It’s sexual violence themed forefront has a disturbing and twisted undercurrent that the reader won’t see coming until it’s too late. Hold on tight, it’s gonna be a bumpy unsettling ride.

Cassie and Rich have been texting for a few days, and now it’s time to meet.
No commitments, no strings. Just one afternoon of rough, and kinky fun.
She has a very detailed fantasy, and she knew Rich was the guy to fulfill her every dark, twisted, and violent desire.

HOW WRONG COULD IT GO?

Her text told him to arrive at 4:15.
Not 4:14. Not 4:16. Exactly 4:15.
All of her instructions were very… precise, (read: anal). But, you gotta love a girl who knows what she wants! Playing the aggressor in a violent fantasy with a smokin’ hot, older woman sounds freakin’ HOT – Rich just hopes he can immerse himself into her fantasy completely.

How can one compulsively planned & timed afternoon go to shit so fast? How did things get so terribly, darkly, and disturbingly fucked up?

Never give one person your complete trust. Ever.

If you somehow find yourself in the Barns universe and you are a male looking to hook up with a date or another couple or a gorgeous older woman or heck, even your hot boss then you must desist! Four books on and this has played again and again like a bloody refrain so I know whereof I speak. You have been warned!

When I read the blurb for this book I pegged the probability of escape for this guy as somewhere between impossible and almost nil. Things do have a funny way of subverting one's expectations tho, and before the book is through we'll learn that in a world as depraved and chaotic as this, nothing can be certain nor taken for granted.

I really liked the twist. I already thought of it when what we're really dealing with first dawned on me, and I'm glad that Rich did it. Can't say that it did the world much good tho heh.

I guess my only issue is that the book is too short, but that contributed to the stellar pacing so I shouldn't complain. I'm rating it 7/10 or 3 stars out of 5.

Whew!! That was smutty as hell.
I loved the first quarter of this book especially. At first I thought it was insane (in a good way) but predictable. I was wrong because it took a turn that was even more wild ! I also liked having both the FMC and the MMC point of view chapters.

There were some grammar/spelling errors but I really enjoyed the story and pacing. The gore was written very well

I went into this book completely blind thinking I was getting one thing. Kink and Horror. And honestly that’s exactly what I got.

This book quickly escalated and by the midway point my mind was reeling. Once we hit the cellar scenes my jaw was on the floor still unsure what was happening. Once things started to click in place I couldn’t stop. I read this in one sitting and it will not be my last from the authors.

I honestly don't know how or why this book has as many 4 and 5 star reviews as it does. This is possibly a good starter book for newbies in the extreme horror/ splatterpunk genre, but, as a horror and gore lover, this didn't do much of anything for me.

I rarely have many expectations of an extreme horror novel outside of, I dont know, being extreme horror?

Yeah, there's blood, a lot of it. And flesh gets torn and bitten off and eaten. People are mutilated. But it's incredibly mundane, repetitive, and the descriptions are so boring I barely made it through the book. They kept talking about "unimaginable pain", but there was nothing of the sort- not in my opinion.

We're given 3 characters that we get to know on any kind of level- and all 3 of them are pure stereotype. We have overcompensating, I never get women like this, slapping a girl is the kinkiest thing ever jock #1. We get overconfident, egotistical, I'm the best dick you'll ever have jock #2. And then we get Cassie, who is made of two of my least favorite tropes- everything must be extremely perfect OCD stereotype + vague sexual monster that feeds from humans stereotype. And we don't get to know any of them enough to like them or care about them, which means the stakes are so low they're sitting on the floor.

The repetition and the "complete control" Cassie has makes the book incredibly boring. If everything is perfect, we have no real tension. Yeah, the twist at the end is interesting and I didn't see it coming, but because I didn't care about the characters and the pacing sucked, it didn't make a lick of difference.

I definitely won't be reading more from this author.

Gore meets Tindr and it's great

I've never read anything quite like KINK before. An uncomfortable combination of erotica and horror, Barns recalls (at least to me) the Japanese guro phenomenon, where sexuality and unfettered violence meet.

I believe that KINK will probably effect the male psyche more powerfully. One finds himself both disgusted and aroused--and perhaps more horrified for enjoying certain parts or acts described. Barns doesn't flinch away from sex, which is refreshing. For a shorter novel, the two protagonists (antagonists?) are reasonably well developed, enough that I didn't doubt their motives or find their actions implausible. I'm curious to learn more about the world he builds here. I wonder (and hope) that there will be a sequel or companion to KINK.

That said, there are a few typos early on in the book, but don't let that sway you. Fans of Bret Easton Ellis might be attracted to KINK, despite its supernatural elements. It draws on the fear many of us have navigating through a hookup culture: that one day we'll meet someone like Cassie.

Kink? Yeah, I see the kink even tho (spoiler) this is not a kink, it's her way of surviving. Maybe it's a kink for him? Anyway. I've spent too much time on AO3, I've read way more kinky and disturbing things.
Extreme? I wouldn't say it was that extreme.
Horror? Nah. I didn't see enough horror. Maybe there's just something wrong with me but the book was mild at best, when it comes to kinky and horror and gore. I enjoyed it. But most of it I enjoyed the idea, the plot. How self control can destroy you, the whole ageless idea. The story became a lot more interesting when it became clear she's not doing this purely just because she's fucked up.

Graphically disturbing!

I have given this story a 5 star rating because, to me it was outstanding!
Extreme horror, grisly, teeth clenching, knuckle biting gore. There are some extremely dark & disturbing things in this story. Things that will make the reader stop & think & should scare the crap out of someone whose "online dating" for sure. Loved the OCD behavior of Cassie & all the minute details.
Just awesomely dark!

This is my first time reading The Barns Brothers, they are gritty and raw when it comes to descriptive character interaction. That being said, online dating is so popular it has lead to a great opportunity for these writers to choose this as their theme for a horror novella. The young man in this story has no idea what he is in for when he arrives on his first internet date. What takes place is mind blowing and pits two friends against one another, who wins out? You'll have to read to see!

i loved this book. every single part.

the beginning hooked me, OBVIOUSLY. and from there i was led on a journey to a place i didn’t know i needed to go.

Rich was a character…the transformation of him was sad and funny and incredible. and Cassie….oooooo she got me.. a couple times!

this book made me cringe, hold my hand over my mouth to contain a gasp, and chuckle simultaneously. such a fun read.
