With new equipment and new commitments, Xeal/Alex returns to the battle to unite the entirety of Nium's continent under one banner. Though, life never stops moving as the holidays come once more and FAE isn’t keeping things as low key as they have in years prior. All as new mysteries continue to force Alex/Xeal and his team to reconsider many things as they adjust their plans while continuing to press forward.
As a child I did not read unless Pokémon cards count. It wasn’t until middle school when my mother played a trick on me, she got me entranced in the Harry Potter books. She would read the first few to me before switching to reading me a chapter and leaving the book out for me to read if I wanted more. Thus started my love of reading, at least in part. I still didn’t go out of my way to find books to read and after high school I could count on one hand how many books I would read each year. Life continued like this for over five years before I was hooked on an anime and searched out its light novel. This led to the phase where I was reading at least a couple books a month to now where I have gone through over 300 books in the last year.
Now I am putting my own work in to the world while following my own mantra. To write for yourself or you will never love what you write. When I first started to put my ideas into words I was surprised to find that those I shared it with loved it. This led me on to the road of putting out my own book for the world to see. Thank you to everyone who has or will help and support me in making this dream a reality.
When you get 20+ books into a series, it can be hard to judge how things are going, either as an author or as a reader, but so far I've enjoyed all of them.
The main criticism I have of the series is the start of each book. From the very first book onward, the hardest part is getting into it. If not for the quick, and quite frankly, amazing 1-1.5 month release cycle of each book, i'd probably be having this sit closer to a 3 star series. It's not a bad series, but going into most books with a cold open continuation is tough. It's one of the reasons web novels can be hard to reread if you don't get snared back in. I suspect rereading this after its finished will have a similar issue, but it gets away with it since it's never gone unread long enough for me to lose track of things, or become uninterested in where the story is headed.
Anyway, back to the book itself, Xeal continues in his quest to win the continent level war while juggling a fairly absurd amount of relationships and the drama that somehow results from both of those things. It is one of those rather large harem books, but thankfully the author is good at distinguishing them and the other characters. Xeal still is the focus, but the rest are still great to read about.
If you are reading this review, I'm pretty sure you don't need to be sold on the series any more, but if you've been looking for a new one to binge, I highly recommend it. Its not perfect, but it's a good time, and binge reading gets you out of the major issue I mentioned earlier.
They always end! Seriously I love the series and this book just continues to add to the great world that has been developed. I feel like every time I have a new book from Dean that it pivots in ways that I am never expecting.. this is a great book and a great series but they always end to soon! Impatiently waiting for the next one now.
It was great to follow the characters through their trials and battles in the real world and Eternal Dominion. The kids and pregnancies however, are slowly detracting from the fun of the VR. It will be a pleasure to see where this goes.
Excellent job advancing the war. Felt faster paced. Still lots of babies, but I guess it's just the way it is. Not sure on the time travel discussion. Editing is top notch.
Bottom line, I'll be reading the next book because I'm enjoying it
