Before This Ends is the second book in Aurora Rose Reynolds ‘Before’ series and it was just as good as the first. I love a good single parent romance and Miles and Emma just fit together. Add in Miles' daughter, Winter, and they were the perfect trio. This series has a little suspense and a lot of love. It was a charming and sweet read that kept me invested.

I picked this up because I enjoyed the first book ( Before We Fall) where we met both Miles and Emma. I’m going to make the review part quick because this author is VERY formulaic, and you either like her style or don’t. This series has deviated a smidge in that it doesn’t feel as BOOM-y as her Until books, and each book has a subplot murder mystery that takes up a small hunk of the book. It’s ok but slows the flow down some.

The timeline overlaps a little with BWF in the beginning, and we go over her and Eli’s breakup again from Emma's POV. The attraction is there, but these two take their time getting together, and for a large chunk they dance around each other. There’s another murder mystery that ties into the last book.

My only grump is that I felt like Emma lost her badassery in this book and Hazel turned into a bitch, both tweaks were used to build conflict drama, and it felt a smidge lazy. I wasn’t into the murder mystery at all, and felt like it needed something else to spruce it up other than Emma’s cold feet.

Bottom Line- Both mc’s were likable, but I didn’t like it as much as the last book. It could be read as a standalone, but you’ll get more out of it if you read book 1.

Jac’s Notes…
Connections…
Tucker Before We Fall (w/Miranda), Clay Until Willow (w/ Willow), Miles Before This Ends (w/ Emma), and Dayton are brothers.
Walker Until Hanna (Miranda’s brother) is married to Hanna. (Willow’s cousin)

Random…
In Until Willow
- Miles was dating Ivy
-Tucker learned of Naomi’s affair
-Dayton hinted into shy Grace

In Before We Fall
-Walker mentions dating a flight attendant from TN
- Tucker hints that Miles has a thing for Leah (Willows Dr BFF) dbl checked no flirting/interactions between the 2 in Willow’s book, maybe ARR thought about making her the h at once point. 🤷 (*Different Leah in ARR’s Catching Him

While I did enjoy most of this book, I can't help but feel that Emma has been taken advantage of too many times over the course of this story.

Look, don't get me wrong, I knew she wanted to help Miles as much as she could because she's just that type of person—someone who's all out when it comes to helping other people.

But in this book, Miles is always busy with his job and the current case he's assigned to, and Emma has been accommodating most of the time to take care of his daughter, Winter. She's always moving things around to be there for Win, and, tbh, I think she did all the looking after in this whole book.

Sure, Miles will be there, but it's usually around dinnertime, or worse, he'd come home way too late, and his daughter is already asleep. I can't remember if they even had a family date because they're always dining in instead. And if there's even an outing, it's always Emma and Winter only.

Idk, I just feel like his job has taken up so much of his time. He wasn't present much in his daughter's day to day stuff in the story, and Emma's the one making up for his absence, and frustratingly it didn't sit well with me. I know this sounds so bad, but honestly, it gave me the impression she's being exploited for her kindness.

Like I said there are enjoyable parts, but then Miles' job and bulldozing ways didn't appeal to me for some reason. He knew Emma's skittishness about starting a relationship, and he said they would take things slow, but it's his version of slow that ruled over here. She's hesitant and wary, but she went along with his pace despite the fact that she wasn't comfortable with it.

Looking back at it, Miles said he's bossy and wants control over things. And as I'm writing this review, that seems to what have really happened in this story. It's his wants that prevailed in this book, and Emma just became a meek follower who went along with him.

Overall, I'm conflicted about this. And I'm still unsure if I want to even rate this as a 3⭐.

Book info:
- Murder mystery
- Single dad
- Death of a parent (past)
- Mention of suicide
- Suspense
- Sex trafficking
- Cheating (side characters)
- No separation
- No Vs
- With OPD
- HEA (8 yrs later, with 2 more kids)

Notes:
- OMD1. Not really, Emma broke things off with her longtime boyfriend because they wanted different things. He's not a bad guy; it's just that there's no possible compromise with their differences.
- OMD2. She went on a date, but Miles crashed it. This was also the push Miles needed to come around to the fact that he wanted Emma and needed to see where the attraction would lead them.
- OWD1. The baby momma, did appear in multiple chapters. She's married and lives in a different state. But for some reason, she didn't like the idea that Miles was dating someone else. Idk, she probably felt some sort of possession over him. But Miles didn't give a crap about her opinion on his love life. They were friends for their daughter, but him dating Emma put a little strain on their relationship.
- OWD2. He was on a date with someone else at the beginning of the book. But at this point, Miles and Emma were acquaintances at best, and in this same restaurant, she officially ended things with her ex. Miles saw them and approached her when she left their table. After making sure she was okay, he went back to his date, drove her home, and told her it was going nowhere.

PS. Dayton's going to get his book, but I'm gonna avoid that as he's a major hoe. 🥴

Don’t you just love it when the MMC has an ex who’s a bit mean and bitchy to the FMC and puts them into place? Constantly reassures the FMC where he stands with her, what his feelings are, shows by his actions how much the FMC meant to him. Miles is that and everything.

Miles is a single dad who has a daughter. Emma just came out of a long-term failed relationship. She’s a romantic, she wants the husband, the children, the white picket fence, unfortunately her ex can’t see that same kind of future with her. Enter Miles 🤭

Going with this I thought that Emma would be the main pursuer, considering she’s the one who wants the family and Miles focus is his daughter and his job. Aurora Reynolds proves me wrong in a good swoony way!

Miles and Tucker (the MMC in the first book) sets the standard for how to treat your love interest with respect and how to show love without actually saying it. I hope some authors learns how to write this way.

4 sweet stars!

There’s one thing I can always count on when it comes to Aurora Rose Reynolds and that’s a book that will captivate and slay me at the same time. And Before This Ends does not disappoint!

When we first meet up with Emma, she’s ended a long-time relationship and isn’t sure of the direction she wants her life to take. One thing she’s certain of is that getting involved with someone new spells nothing but trouble. That is until she finds herself drawn to Miles. Miles doesn’t do complicated, but there’s something about Emma that pulls her to him. Before he knows it, he finds himself desperate to break down her walls and break all of his rules…

From the moment I met Emma, I just knew she was going to be a force to be reckoned with. She might be unsure of the direction her life is going in, but she’s the kind of person you can always count on and when she lets someone get close to her, she loves big and loves hard. Miles only has two priorities in life: his job and his little girl. He doesn’t have time for other distractions and doesn’t do relationships. But when he gets to know Emma more, he suddenly feels things he never expected. Before he knows it, he’s ready to take on the world and fight every single one of Emma’s demons.

What I loved about this story was the ease of the relationship between Emma and Miles. Yes, their connection was instant and off the charts. But, I loved seeing them build and work towards a solid foundation, especially when it wasn’t just their hearts at risk. The other thing I really loved was that while there was some drama, it was mostly light and fit with the story. No drama for the sake of drama, just a solid love story between two people that I just couldn’t get enough of.

In the end, Before This Ends was everything I was hoping it would be and it left me with a huge smile on my face. If you’re looking for a sexy, single-parent romance, you won’t want to miss Aurora Rose Reynolds’ latest release, Before This Ends. I hope you’ll fall head over heels for Miles and Emma just as I have.

5 Miles and Emma Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the Before Series which picks up where Before We Fall ends but features Miles and Emma. We met both of them in the first book, Emma is Miranda's best friend and Godmother to her little boy, Kingston. Miles is Tucker's foster brother and a fellow cop.

Both books have been so good and I cannot wait for Dayton's novel. In this one, Emma and Miles are both a little cautious to get into a relationship , Emma more so. She has recently come out of a three year relationship which ended because they did not want the same things. Miles is a single dad to 7 year old Winter who is a gorgeous little character that brought comedy and lightness to a story with some heavier themes running through it. Emma is a very likeable heroine although I wasn't sure about the complete meltdown she has about their relationship , briefly. I don't know that it fitted very well but it was over pretty quick so it wasn't that big a deal. Miles is a great Hero. He felt more intense than Tucker , his brother and it worked well for him. The slight drama with his ex , Winter's Mum Hazel, was good to read and felt realistic.

This is a great series and I am very invested. There is a serious and dark criminal theme running in the background to the romance which tempers things out.

HEA? Yes.
Cheating? No
Be aware - Murder / loss of a parent / domestic abuse are themes.
Available on KU so I borrowed it but then bought it because I enjoyed it so much. Audio coming out in July 24.

GAHHHH I absolutely adore Auroras books and this one was no exception. This was a cover to cover read for me and was the story of miles and Emma.

The MMC, Miles, whom we meet briefly in Before we fall, is a single dad to his 4 yr old daughter, Winter. Miles works as a Detective. He is into Emma , but knows she recently broke up with her boyfriend.

The FMC, Emma is a hairdresser and is best friends with Miranda, who is married to Miles’s brother Tucker. She just recently split with her boyfriend bc she realizes they want different things… after a little bit of the single life Emma decides she’s ready to date.

Miles, who hears Emma is ready to date and on one night decides enough is enough that he’s ready to claim her. From there everything evolves. There’s the relationship aspect, the “ family “ meals, the fact winter loves Emma as much as him and the fact that Miles doesn’t care what anyone has to say about it , especially Hazel, winters mom.

Emma and Miles were literally just perfect for each other. They balanced each other and supported each other. But of course there’s some hurt, heartache and suspense thrown into the story, and lots of banter too. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for The next brothers book. Thank you to Aurora for advance copy.

Honestly, I did like the relationship between miles and Emma, but there was wayyyyy too much focus on the case he was working on, so it was hard to get fully invested. I’m just not interested in that kind of mystery, so I completely skipped over every part of that.
However, I loved the relationship between Emma and winter. So while Emma and miles might’ve gotten three stars, I’m adding two to make it five for Emma and winter. Emma was so good to her and I loved how affectionate winter was with Emma. You could see how they loved each other and I thought it was so sweet.
I feel like the ending was abrupt though and the epilogue was too short and I didn’t appreciate his ex wife being included in the epilogue

This book was so good.
Miles and Emma are everything, the way that they tried to stay away for each other because they didn't want to rush into things and change everything was something so mature that made me even more invested in the book.
Winter was my favourite, she's Miles daughter, and she is absolutely the best.

- best friends brother in law

Emma & Miles are attracted to each other when they originally meet, but Emma is in a relationship at the time and Miles is not looking for anything complicated. They continue to cross paths because her best friend is dating his brother. If you haven't read Miranda & Tucker's story in Before We Fall, stop what you're doing and do that now! (You don’t have to before you read this one, but you should)

Emma and her longtime boyfriend break up in the previous book so she is around the group a lot more. When Miles needs someone reliable to watch his daughter Winter, Emma steps up and they both realize there is something more between them.

Miles does not want to cross the line with Emma too soon because their lives are so intertwined, but he loses his mind when he finds out she is out on a date with someone else. This is my absolute favorite scene in the book! Once Miles decides to go for it, he is all in and proceeds to show Emma that they belong together.

Emma & Miles both have some personal things to work through, but they do it together. This story is emotional without being angsty. There is very little drama aside from a little with Winter's mother, Hazel, but not in a "baby mama drama" way.

Miles is working on a murder investigation with the police department and we also learn more about his undercover assignment with the FBI to discover the corruption within that department. Neither of these things cause any outside conflict for him & Emma, but him opening up about his work is a stepping stone in their relationship.

This was a story of two people falling in love and learning to trust each other to be everything the other one needs. I loved it.

Favorite Quote: "Tell me something about you that I don't know"

I will be over here not so patiently waiting for Dayton's story next. I cannot wait to find out who his love interest is.

We met all these characters in the last book, and now it's their time. Emma was dating someone and separated from them because they wanted different things. On the day of the break up she saw Miles on a date (one and only time) they talked and left it as that friends until he starts asking for tiny favors and spending time with her and his daughter, and his daughter Winter with Emma solo its cute they were a found family. We did have some tiny tiny drama with the ex-wife who wasn't mean or anything really she just didn't trust a woman with her child and ex. Which was wired because Miles said his ex was married, but I didn't see any husband when she visited Winter and acted a little jelouse when Miles moved on?! So I was confused about that.

We had a side plot with Miles job with missing girls, which was meh. Honest, I couldn't care about that subplot. There was a little push away since Emma didn't know if her snd Miles would work out and she would lose him and Winter, but Miles didn't let her worry too much.

Ehhh, no real ow/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character,  drama, sexy times, no virgins

I only started reading Auroras' books a few months ago, however, I have managed to get through over half her books on her backlist and I have enjoyed each and every one of the books I’ve read, so the moment this book hit my kindle, I devoured every damn word!

What to expect:

🧡 Small Town
🖤 Single Dad
🧡 Second Chance
🖤 Forbidden Romance
🧡 Protective Hero
🖤 Fun Banter
🧡 Hurt/Comfort
🖤 Romantic Suspense
🧡 Undeniable Attraction

Miles is a single dad to a cute little four-year-old girl called Winter. He’s also a detective. He never saw himself wanting to get into another serious relationship but that all changed when Emma came into his life. He can’t help but want to spend time with her and have her around all the time and the more time they spend together the more comfortable it becomes.

Emma just recently became single and is left trying to navigate her way through her life as a single woman again. She is scared to get into a kind of relationship, especially with Miles. Despite her reservations, she finds herself drawn to him and getting closer to him the more time they spend together.

As their relationship continues to grow, they must confront their past and Miles's job as a detective. It’s not easy whatsoever. Are they strong enough to get through this? Or is their relationship doomed from the start?

These two were everything. I couldn’t get enough. The chemistry and banter between these two made my heart flutter. This was a very emotional and heartfelt romance, it was easy to get lost within the pages and easy to fall in love with the characters. All in all, it was an outstanding love story and a prime example of why I love romance so much!

Before this Ends is the second book in the Before series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Emma is a hopeless romantic. She wants to be married and have children, but her long-term boyfriend doesn’t have the same wants, so they break up.

Miles is a single dad to a 4 year old girl, Emma. He’s a detective and doesn’t want anything serious.

These two had instant attraction, but they fought it because it would have gotten too messy, especially since Emma was best friends with his sister-in-law. But they couldn’t deny their attraction forever. And when Miles fell, he fell hard.

Miles was so protective and sweet with Emma. And even though she’d been the one who wanted the whole family thing, he was the one who pursued her. And I loved seeing Winter bond with Emma.

There was some slight OWD, with Miles’s ex being a little b*tchy to Emma. But Miles wasn’t having it and set her straight.

This also had suspense with Miles (and Tucker) trying to solve the case of who murdered two girls. And I was invested in them figuring it out.

This was a great addition to the Before series, and I’m excited for the next book.

I loved the story and enjoyed reading it from the first page to the last one. This adorable, sweet story with a hint of a boom moment is not about two main characters, but three Miles, Emma, and Winter. Everything is perfectly plotted and marvelously written with enough hotness, love, friendship, and mystery on the part of Miles working on a case. Did I say that I read the book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down? It is simply an excellent addition to the collection of ARR books that I love. Thank you Aurora and The Authors agency for my early copy of this beautiful story.
