I don't what is different about her writing, but Laney's books are some of the few historical romance books I enjoy. It's just not my genre. Yet she sucks me in every single time. What a great story!

One word to describe Laney Hatcher’s Love Matched: MORE!!! This book is more than what I ever dreamed it could be. A beautiful retelling of Love Hacked by Penny Reid, I find with each book Laney writes I become MORE and MORE enamored with her storytelling. Alex and Sandra fans will be so proud of the way Laney wrote Alexander and Cassandra’s journey to finding each other. A diamond of the first water.

Love Matched is a fantastic addition to Laney Hatcher's London Ladies Embroidery series!

I always look forward to her books when Smartypants Romance announces upcoming releases. She does an excellent job taking Penny's characters and stories and keeping them recognizable, but it's not a carbon copy. I love seeing these familiar characters in the historical setting and how their lives, jobs, and romances translate to regency times.

Cassandra and Alex were interesting characters and they had chemistry from fairly early on - even after she caught him snooping around her family's home during a party. Their different stations in society make a relationship unlikely, but their connection is undeniable. I thought the relationship development was nicely paced with lots of banter and heart.

This book and series are so much fun and I can't recommend them enough!

Thank you to Smartypants Romance and the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

**********************

It's Love Hackedby Penny Reid's turn to have its historical rewrite. In the two previous novels, we were able to get a little glimpse of a footman who allowed himself inappropriate reactions every time a disaster happened around Cassandra. All the young men who approach her suffer accidents : the latest is one who almost choked on a piece of lemon in his lemonade...

Cassandra has noticed him, this footman is present at all the social events she goes to and what's more, he always seems to be close to her and makes fun of the poor suitors' misfortune. One evening, she has had enough, she spots him slipping away from a party and follows him to her father's study where he tries to steal something ! It's more and more intriguing.

After finally learning his name, Alexander, and exchanging a languid kiss, Cassandra can't help but seek him out. For once, a young man is not afraid of her exuberant personality and challenges her in every discussion. She knows that she shouldn't take a liking to a footman/thief, but she doesn't care, with Alexander the social codes are shattered.

But becoming attached to Alexander is not without risk, especially when it attracts the attention of the ruffian for whom he is stealing...

Like the first two volumes, this historical rewriting takes the original plot, readapts it to the context, offers a new interpretation, but while remaining faithful to the spirit and characters of Penny Reid. We find Love Hacked throughout the novel, we enjoy discovering how the author will get out of the contemporary context and make the story evolve. And like the first ones, it made me want to reread Knitting in the City !

I really loved this twist on Penny Reid’s Love Hacked. I was curious how Hatcher would be able to adapt the computer hacker main character into Regency England, but I loved her take on it! I feel like this book was able to show more of Hatcher’s creativity and less strict adherence to the original plot lines.

I loved Alexander and Cassandra’s connection and her willingness to throw caution to the wind to be with someone she loved, despite Alex’s constant reminders that they can’t suit. The crazy rumors about the mishaps that surround Cassandra was also a fun spin on the original plot. I don’t want to give too much away, but there is a good amount of mystery surrounding Alex’s life that definitely keeps you intrigued.

If you are a fan of the Knitting in the City series, you will be delighted with this historical reimagining of Loved Hacked.

All of Lady Cassandra’s prospects seem to be moving on without her. While she’s content to see everyone around her finding happiness, her future is starting to look grim. A chance encounter with a handsome stranger changes everything.

Love Matched is the third book in the London Ladies Embroidery series. This is a historical retelling of Penny Reid’s Love Hacked (Knitting in the City series). This historical romance is open-door. It could be read as a stand-alone but I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series before reading Love Matched. If you want to fully appreciate the brilliance this retelling, read the contemporary (Love Hacked) first then the historical.

Who better to steal a Lady’s heart than a thief? Or is he? The push and pull between these MCs is perfect. While opposites in station, these two could not be more alike in personality - fiery, determined, and stubborn. The teasing banter leads to delicious chemistry.

Of all of the Knitting in the City series, Love Hacked has to have the most complex plot to try to reinvent into a historical romance. Laney Hatcher’s creativity while still maintaining the essence of the original story never fails to delight me. There are so many plot pieces and phrases cleverly woven into Love Matched. (“Wait, wait, don’t tell me.”) I love the way that this series is progressing and I can't wait for Ashleigh’s book next.

I did have the opportunity to listen to an early copy of the audiobook version. The narrator, Lillian Rachel, does a fantastic job with all characters. If you enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend it.

I voluntarily read, listened to, and reviewed advanced copies of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really adore how this author has taken the world of Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series and made it into historical romance reimaginings. It is always so much fun to match up the characters with the books in the original series and see just how the author will make the stories fit into the time period she is using. I did love this romance in the original books, because I loved that Alex was a younger guy, and he was just so different than expected.

And even though Alex is more street-wise in some ways in this book, he still has a bit of that air of innocence to him, with how he was brought up and the way the author makes it finally okay for him and Cassandra to be together in the end. I enjoyed Cassandra’s parents, even if I don’t necessarily remember much of her family being in the original. But I do like her friend that she had the marriage pact with, and how he had to do that with the way things were in that time period.

This was a great addition to this series, and I can’t wait to see how the author does the next book in the series. I’m very excited to see our Winston sister’s incarnation for this series get her HEA and how the author will weave the original story into this world. And it makes me wonder if the author will do a spin-off of the Winston Brothers in this world as well! And of course there is Fiona, whose book/story wasn’t my favorite in the original series, but with how she fits into this world, I’ll definitely be intrigued to see how that is written.

I was provided both a print and audio arc of this book via the author and Smartypants Romance, all opinions are my own. The audiobook is narrated by Lillian Rachel and she does a wonderful job with the narration.

This is the best book in the series by far. Hatcher's retellings of the Knitting in the City series keep getting better with each installment! This is Sandra and Alex's story retold as Lady Cassandra, daughter of a duke who attends all of the premier events in the hopes of making a match and finding a husband. She has terrible luck and each of her suitors ends up having some awful and hilarious event occur during their courtship. Enter Alexander, a footman well below her station, but she is drawn to him nonetheless.

I loved how the author got creative with the characters to put them in 19th Century London vs present day Chicago where the original source material was set. I also love revisiting with the original characters as part of the embroidery circle of aristocratic ladies and how she maintained their friendship and kept true to the nature of each of the characters while still telling a unique and new story of her own.

I loved watching Cassandra and Alexander's relationship unfold. She is blunt and bold, always seeking adventure, which is something a lady of her status is not typically known for. He works odd jobs to make ends meet and has a past he isn't proud of, but finds it hard to resist her charms. He does his best to remind her that they are not a good match despite their chemistry and attraction, but Lady Cassandra does what she wants and throws caution to the wind when she finally finds love. Fortunately she has a family and group of friends that will support her no matter what.

If you are a fan of the Knitting in the City series, you have to read this Regency reimagining. It is executed so well. It stays true to the original, while being something completely new. This series is so fun to revisit favorite characters in a new setting and new adventures.

I was waiting for this one! Love Hacked was my favorite KITC book and Sandra and Alex had a special place in my heart.
I was not disappointed! Lady Cassandra and Alexander are simply amazing. I wasn't sure how it was going to work as a historical, but it really did!

(I think all the Winston Brothers as Scottish Highlanders sounds beyond yummy...food for thought!)

I have always loved Alex and Sandra’s Love Hacked by Penny Reid and I was so excited when it was confirmed that Laney would be writing a retelling!

The Easter eggs alone, gave me so much joy! This book is more than a retelling, more of a reimagining. Laney handled this flawlessly. I read a lot of historical romance and this book easily fits in with the genre.

These slight changes really helped set up the story and Laney packed in some surprises that even I didn’t expect (though I really should have!).

An absolutely delightful read, and I can’t wait to read more by this author!

Oh, ho! It's Lady Cassandra's turn to find her special someone and he's a glower-y, intelligent, kinda-thief who is in a sticky situation. Fortunately for him, Cassandra pushes back when he gets a little snarky and doesn't let his every present glowers drive her away. Come to think of it, she also doesn't let him saying they're far too different to be together keep her away, either.

Look, the lady has strong opinions and a good sense of self (although that does get rattled a bit when she finds out how the gentlemen about town have been using her and the disastrous events that tend to occur around her as a stepping stone toward their own matches) and she's willing to stand strong for the things (and people) she believes in. As it turns out, Alexander is one of those people. Well, Alexander and her lady friends in her embroidery group and their husbands.

On Alexander's end, he's guarded and wary and RIGHTFULLY SO. He has a idea of how he believes Cassandra is, but the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes his idea of her is completely wrong. She's witty and kind and, against all odds, she wants to be with him. Which is all kinds of dangerous for her because of Alexander's past and the people he can't quite seem to get away from.

An encounter or two that get the blood flowing (not in a dirty way [until later], but in a "YOU!" sort of way), a group of friends who have each others' backs no matter what, a couple of outings that delight Cassandra, a dangerous past Alexander is trying to distance himself from, and a lady who realizes her big personality is something the right person will adore about her. Yesssssss.

Overall Grade: A

Tropes: opposites attract; fish out of water; standalone in an interconnected series; regency romance; slow burn

The brilliance of Laney Hatcher’s storytelling in the Smartypants World shouldn’t be missed. Here’s the situation: imagine taking a beloved series (Knitting in the City series) from the illustrious Penny Reid and reimagining it into the world of Regency romance. This isn’t an easy task as the women of Penny Reid’s original series read against type for that world. Yet, after Hatcher’s first two books for Smartypants, Neanderthal Seeks Duchess and Well-Acquainted, she does it with such aplomb that it’s quite astounding to the dedicated Penny Reid reader. Now, the newest story, Love Matched, poses another challenge. In the story that Love Matched re-tells, Love Hacked, the MMC is a genius hacker. How does one take a decidedly 21st-century occupation and infuse some element of it into a Regency romance? If you’re Laney Hatcher, seemingly easy. You should know that Penny Reid’s Sandra and Alex are my second favorite couple in her Knitting in the City series, so I was reading Love Matched with a critical, yet intrigued eye. How do you craft an MMC and FMC such as Sandra and Alex into 19th-century characters? Even more, when I read Penny Reid’s Love Hacked, there was a desolation to Alex’s story, a struggle to unwind himself from an outer claim on him. This bind is the tension of their story, as over and over again, Sandra must fight for their coupleship with the odds stacked against them.

And Laney Hatcher rises to the challenge of these issues in her story, Love Matched. Even in Regency England, Sandra is headstrong, independent, and brave. Her pursuit of Alexander is the catalyst for significant change in his life, and she believes in him and their capacity for a future, just as the character in Penny Reid’s book does. Additionally, Hatcher composes Alexander with the same solitariness as Reid’s character. This is important because the Alex of Penny Reid’s book cloaks himself in that solitariness as protection. Hatcher’s ability to draw Alexander in the same, but different manner than Reid’s character doesn’t read like a copy, but rather an iteration, a complex, fully rendered reimagining. And I find this fascinating and exciting.

Laney Hatcher’s Love Matched is my favorite of her Smartypants Romance stories thus far. Partly, I love an FMC who knows her mind and challenges social mores to ensure her eternal happiness, and I adore an MMC who challenges her but also accepts her on her own terms. The community we love and adore in Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series is still a cornerstone of Laney Hatcher’s reconceptualization of this beloved group of women. It continues to buoy the stories. Now, I’m ready for Hatcher’s next book in the series, as it should feature my favoritest of favorites in the Penny Reid world, Fiona and Greg. What will a ninja look like in Regency England? One can only imagine it.

This was one of my favorite books in the Knitting in the City series, and I had no idea how it would translate to the regency era, but it was done beautifully. I adored Cassandra, the legend surrounding her and broody Alexander. We got to see more of Ashley and Kathleen, so I am doubly excited for this series to continue especially if we get to see the Winston Brothers

I’m a bit obsessed with Laney Hatcher’s historical romance books and her historical retellings of the Knitting in the City series.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, what a FABULOUS idea to reimagine a favorite contemporary romance series as historical romance novels and Penny Reid put her beloved series in good hands with Hatcher.

Love Hacked is one of my favorite romance books of all time and obviously of the Knitting in the Cirty series so I was a bit excited to fall for Cassandra and Alex all over again.

In the contemporary version, Sandra is a child psychologist who is completely unlucky at finding love and Alex is a loner, hacker. Well in Love Matched, Cassandra is still the sassy heroine we love who is equally unlucky in love.

Every one of her suitors seems to have an unfavorable run-in when it comes to Cassandra but there’s a rumor that after surviving a mishap with Cassandra, the man will find his true match.

I can’t imagine that is something nice to hear and nor does Cassandra take it lightly. But then she finally meets Alexander – the footman who has watched her at several balls and events throughout the season.
Though both may be equally taken with one another, any feelings are doomed to go nowhere before they even speak to one another because of their different places in society.

And given their different social standings, I loved how there is a bit of a hate to love you start to this novel given Alex’s determination to keep Cassandra in his prejudiced box where he believes that she’s just like any other snooty lady of the ton but she quickly proves him wrong.

There really is so much to love about this novel:
• Story about love found despite their different social status
• A strong heroine who is smart, thoughtful and yet doesn’t back down from what she wants and what she wants is MORE
• An equally engaging hero who overcame so much and finally believed he could have MORE

I only wish that there was a bit more to the “danger” that their relationship posed to both of them and more of the tight-knit friend group.

Hatcher does set the stage nicely for Fiona’s story which I do hope is next so we will have to see!

*Thank you to Smartypants Romance for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

I am absolutely loving this series of the London Ladies Embroidery Circle, all books and characters based on the Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid. Laney Hatcher has done it again with "Love Matched", a reconfiguring of the characters Cassandra and Alex from "Love Hacked". I had wondered how Laney was going to approach this pair as they are pretty modern in the KITC book! But I shouldn't have doubted her alacrity, the tone and personality of both of them (as well as the supporting characters who are all getting their stories told) is fresh and yet familiar. Cassandra is a beautiful and available debutante who seems to be cursed to deal with a series of small incidents that scuttle her marriage prospects one after another; Alexander is a mysterious footman who is clearly up to no good and treats her with a prejudicial disdain to cover his attraction. The course of their odd courtship, many of the difficulties, and even the surprise deus ex machina are solidly Regency and provided a very satisfying HEA for the unlikely couple. Highly recommended for both light Regency lovers and fans of the KITC series.

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

This book gave me all the happy feels and I wished it would've never ended! I'm already counting down the days until the next book comes out, because I love this group of friends!

Alexander really tugged at my heartstrings with his story, and I thought underneath his tough exterior he was just the sweetest character. He is a couple of years younger than Cassandra, making their relationship even more unique (besides their class differences) for during that time period. I loved Cassandra's bubbly personality and she how she brought so much light to Alexander's life. While I did find myself frustrated with her towards the end, I feel that she learned her lesson and I moved her back to my good list!

Sweet and spicy, there is even a surprise trope included that I absolutely love, making me enjoy the book even more. I wasn't sure how things would work out for Alexander and Cassandra, but of course it all does somehow and I loved how they get to their HEA!

Review in English:
If you enjoyed Penny Reid's Love hacked, you'll enjoy this book as well! Such an amazing version of Sandra's and Alex's love story. In the beginning of Love Matched Cassandra and Alexander meet one another again and again and from there the story starts.

Love Matched is such a wonderful book, I'd give it seven stars if it were possible! This is a book you'll want to read again. Thank you Laney Hatcher for the chance to read the book in advance!

We want MORE! Like Alexander and Cassandra all I want is more of this London Ladies Embroidery series! This series keeps getting better and better and loving the Knitting ladies as much as I do, it is quite a feat! I loved everything from start to finish: the adaptation of the social classes, Alexander's backstory, the continuously leaving behind the old chaperone, Covent Garden market and the storyline with Thomas and the House for special care children. Everything was simply delightful and the perfect rendition of an already great story.

After seeing how beautifully adapted was Alex and Sandra's story and the little snippets of the Fiona, the Duchess of Compton I honestly cannot wait to see how my favourite couple of the pack (Fiona and Greg) wiil be set in regency era. But first, let's see how our Scottish Miss Ashley does!

I had never read historical romance before I started reading Laney’s books. This is another amazing addition from Laney for the Smartypants Fall Launch.

Cassandra is a bit of rebel and after meeting Alexander she definitely doesn’t follow the rules for a proper lady. She is independent and goes after what she wants

Alexander is a hard working commoner and who happens upon Cassandra several times. They have a bit of an instant attractions but he knows they cannot be together.

I love the passion, determination and fearlessness between Cassandra and Alexander.

I adore how Laney takes the original characters from the KITC series and turns them into these delightful historical romance stories. They are similar yet so different.

In this historical romance retelling of Penny Reid’s Love Hacked, bold, beautiful, 22-year-old Cassandra is in the midst of her fifth season of being unlucky with suitors. Without fail, whenever there is an incident with one, that suitor becomes engaged to someone else in short order.

There is one footman that keeps catching her eye, though. He appears at party after party, but they don’t meet until she surprises him in the midst of an attempted heist.

She’s the bubbly and outgoing lady; he’s the reticent servant. This is definitely a case of opposites attracting and forbidden love, but Cassandra and Alexander manage to forge a connection in stolen moments. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship develop and the intellectual, emotional, and romantic sparks fly between them.

And it is always fun to see the ladies of the embroidery circle (+ Nicolas) chatting, interacting, and supporting each other.

Before starting the book, I wasn’t sure how Hatcher would take this story and translate it to a Regency setting, but I thoroughly enjoyed her version. It’s fun to see how things match up with Love Hacked, but it isn’t necessary to read that book first to enjoy this one.

I listened to the audiobook version, and Lillian Rachel’s narration was a delight. I enjoyed her accent and vocal choices, especially how she voiced embroidery circle friend Ashleigh.

I received an advance copy of the book from Smartypants Romance. All review opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the other books in the series but this was bordering on making me pull my hair out . It's reckless decision after reckless decision . Cassandra seemed like she isn't capable of making a sound decision . And her persistent approach towards Alexander even after he conveyed how much he didn't want to be seen with her made me want to DNF so much but I pulled through . And it doesn't seem likely that Cassandra who was sure ofcourse herself in the previous books would recklessly abandon everything because of something Alexander said about the curse . It didn't seem like a forbidden romance but more of a forced romance initiated by Cassandra .

Scandalous, absolutely scandalous..well, for the times Lady Cassandra lives in...but I absolutely loved it! She is fierce and she is smart and she can't help but investigate things..even when they could only lead to trouble, such as Alexander.
I truly loved this story as the main character is not only ahed of her times but courageous to boot.

Made me Love two beloved characters more

I wasn't sure how this retelling of a favorite duo would look, but Hatcher made me enjoy them even more -even in a different time period. Cassandra and Alexander are that perfect amount of push and pull you need for a successful opposites attract story. They help each other blossom as characters while creating a chemistry that's believable. Definitely enjoying this different look at some beloved characters and look forward to reading more of Hatcher's books.

"I didn't even know how to dream of more until I met you."

I adore how Sandra and Alex from Love Hacked (Penny Reid) are reimagined in Love Matched as Cassandra and Alexander. The slow-burn romance, the star-crossed lovers vibes, the revelations, anticipatory build-up, and swoony steam are oh so good.

And of course, the absolutely tight knit friend group of fierce, confident, kindhearted and supportive ladies is *chef's kiss*.

Seriously, I don't read historical romance— it's just not something I'm drawn to —but ever since I started reading Laney Hatcher's Smartypants Romance books I just cannot wait for MORE. I love the characters she's created and reimagined in her series.

Love Matched has so many good tidbits for fans of the Knitting in the City series to get excited about while still standing alone for new readers of the London Ladies Embroidery series. I am so excited to see what Laney Hatcher has in store next for this reimagined series!
