Ugh. Who'd have thought that a bonkbuster set in the uber rich, 5-star hotel world of the Hamptons could be so blah?

Clearly I've been spoiled by the glorious bitches and magnificent bastards over on Gossip Girl, but while it seemed that this was what was being aimed for, the characters within this were almost exclusively just unpleasant people, with all of the mean-spiritedness and none of the charm.

Whilst the world it was set in could have been ripe for titillation (to go with the 'wickedly sexy' vibe it seemed to be trying to give off), instead the antics of the 2D Paris Hilton-a-like Tina and libidinous arse Lucas were as unerotic as when we spent time with a stressed Honor while she fretted over her repairs list, amongst other boring diversions, while the plot took forever to get going.

Definitely not one for my guilty pleasures shelf.

I'm still not sure what to make of this book. Parts were very good and well written, others felt all over the place. The pace was odd (it would take multiple chapters to get through a few days, then all of the sudden we were 3 years down the road) but it allowed for a rather broad and involved story to be told.

This is a cross between a light beachy kind of read and a more involved story, so don't go in to it thinking it will be quick. There are a decent amount of characters, but they all tie together, as unbelievable as that may be.

Overall, I enjoyed the story of the rise and fall of luxury hotels, and the human stories were pretty good, if a bit contrived at times.

This book is super lenghty. Too many unnecessary details and chapters. What started out as interesting became very boring as the chapters goes on and on. If the storyline is interesting, I don't mind reading a lengthy novel. I have to skimmed through the last few chapters before I lose my patience. Finally finished it yesterday. I will never read this book again for the second time.

Trashy clichéd, badly written and trite. Fluff is a compliment. A caricature of the so-called glitzy life.

Hotel heiress Honor Palmer dreams of revitalizing the faded Palmers Hotel into the glamorous Hamptons hot spot it once was. When she inherits the property, she finally has her chance. But she’ll have to deal with a greedy stepmother after her trust fund, a celebutante sister spending money faster than you can say “AmEx,” and a chic new hotel opening down the street — owned by evil tycoon Anton Tisch and run by a hot young playboy who’s got ambitions of his own…

The luxury of falling in love

Sexy, arrogant Lucas Ruiz escaped a dirt-poor past to climb his way up in the luxury hotel industry. He’ll stop at nothing to make sure Tisch’s hotel succeeds — and that means packing the place with celebs, winning over locals…and going head-to-head with Honor Palmer.

From Pratesi sheets to breakfasts in bed, there’s more than the thrill of competition sizzling between them

If you’re looking for a substantial read which is credible and gripping then put this book back on the shelf. If however you want a light read (not so light in terms of this lengthy volume) then sit back and enjoy the ludicrousness of all things hotel. The book had me interested in parts but overall it was simply a book to pass the time. The characters were unbelievable and predictable and the storyline was so over the top it was pure cheese.

Read it, forget about it and then move on. Prefer Louise Bagshawe but that is my personal choice. Also, when reading this book, make a note of how many times famous people are referenced. You’ll find it’s rather a lot!

It was a nice read and a few good little twists.
I felt the ending was rushed a little though but I enjoyed it a lot. Reminded me of a filthier and much more scandalous TOWIE episode 🤣🤣🤣
I would like to say they mixed up one of the characters. Mitzi was described as a German shepherd on the who is who page. However, when Mitzi makes her debut in the book she is described as a Great Dane petty reason to note but meh that’s me 😊

Review

Decent plot, multiple twists. The various romantic pairings were glaringly obvious re who would end up with whom. The multiple “star crossed lovers” were never really in any jeopardy of not ending up happily ever after. Lots of graphic sex, including language that is pretty demeaning to women; read with caution if this is offensive.

Overall, this is quite a good read! I really enjoyed the story, could have done without the (somehow quite vulgar) sexy parts and the many time leaps though! And I would have expected an even better ending.

Great story

I am in love with Ms Bagshawes writing style and storylines. This was a great read from the moment I started reading. It's been since the last Tilly Bagshawe novel that I had a book I couldn't wait to have a moment to get back to reading!

I am so excited to have found this author. Reminds me of Sidney Sheldon who I understand she as some association with. Just enough of everything to hold your attention. Great beach read

Enjoyable book that had the right amount of interest and classic twisted romantic attachments without confusing. Needed a book to just read without thinking and this was a perfect, easy read

I received Do Not Disturb for free from the Goodreads First Reads program in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly, the characters. And the POVs. There are an awful lot of characters. In addition to our two main characters, we have friends, lovers, relatives, rivals, co-workers, all playing equally important roles in the story. Each character is well-developed and has a significant plot line, but wow. There is a lot to remember. The POV switches constantly, which isn't much of a problem unless you have to stop mid-chapter to do something else.

Second, the timeline. The pacing of the book threw me off several times. We'll have six chapters dedicated to a week and then suddenly we'll jump forward three years. I get it, hotels aren't built overnight, relationships (usually) aren't torn apart in the course of five minutes, and you'd probably die of exhaustion if everything in the novel took place over a couple months. BUT it seems that the pacing of the book could have been improved a bit. It comes across as weird and disjointed at times.

Third, the plot. Now, I've read a lot of terrible books recently. Books where the author thought he'd show off his vocabulary more than his storytelling abilities. Books where I have no attachment to the characters because the author spends more time describing the trees in the backyard than describing what's happening to the characters. So I suppose reading a book like this, where the characters are the main focus, was a welcome change. The plot is simple yet interesting. I was never bored. It wasn't anything special and it was a bit formulaic, but what can I say? It's fluffy chick lit. I wasn't expecting huge plot twists. The book wraps up very neatly.

One thing I can say I was disappointed in was the relationship between Honor and Lucas. The description on the back of the book makes it sound like they have an angsty love affair, but the relationship is much more hatred than anything else. They're constantly battling each other in the press, making accusations, telling anyone who will listen how horrible the other is...

So all in all, Do Not Disturb is neither the best nor the worst I've read this year. I enjoyed it for what it was and it kept my attention, but I probably won't actively seek out additional books from this author. If I'd paid for the book, I probably would have been a little disappointed, but since I got it for free I can't complain too much.

When I ordered this book I didn’t realise that it was over 600-pages in length. I was hoping then that it wouldn’t be rubbish as I was going to be stuck with it for a while. Luckily I needn’t have worried. It just meant that I had longer to spend in the character’s world that was built up right from the beginning.

The book is split into two halves. The first half focuses on the rivalry of two hotels and their managers. “Honor Palmer and Lucas Ruiz are the protagonists at the heart of what is being dubbed the Five-Star Wars, a battle for supremacy between two great Hampton hotels: the world-famous Palmers and the new architecturally acclaimed Tischen, the Herrick.”

Honor is the "spiky tomboy" grown up into the Palmers riches, but determined to keep the family legacy alive, i.e. the once great Palmers that is now just “another dime-a-dozen “luxury” hotel, perhaps even a little shabbier than its rivals”. Lucas is the “handsome, cocky, arrogant” womaniser driven by ambition to be the greatest hotel manager in the world before realising his “fantasy of one day owning his own hotel. His hotel would be an aura not just of luxury but of peace” all under the name “Luxe.”

Lucas is directed from on-high by the owner of the Herrick, Anton Tisch, who wants “Palmers out of business by this time next year. I want her penniless and scrounging at my feet”.

But then Lucas gets too big for his boots, “ever since the boy had started taking sole credit for the Herrick’s success” so Anton Tisch destroys him, along with Palmers at the same time. The second half of the book looks at the aftermath now that Honor and Lucas have a common enemy.

The book is a good read with lots of characters that have distinctive characteristics and motivations. It is a light read and a good world to inhabit through its 600 pages plus. If you like your 600-page bonkbusters then get it.

Do not disturb was super frustrating for me. I rated this book a two.

My reasons are as follows.

1) The book was catagorized as a erotic romance but there was only two actual sex acts that you could call erotic the rest was degrading and disgusting. It was not what I expected. The sex scenes they did show was about the villain. I could care less to know the villans sex life with his mistresses. As for the catagory of the book. I'm not sure where this book would fall into. It is a little dramatic but not enough to call it a drama. Romance? (Yeah right.).

2) The biggest problem with this book was the characters. I felt the author wanted to have all these characters stories and have a purpose within the protagonists but it didn't work in her favor. It just confused me and sidtracked me from the protagonists story. I am not against having a lot of characters but if I were the author I would skip the characters story and just made a series out of it. It would have made it better for the characters and for the plot.

3) the plot. It was exciting in some moments but for the most part it was really boring. there were days when I just could have put my tablet down and just done something more important but I kept hoping that it would get better and then...it ended.

so read at your own risk.
thanks for reading.
