Be careful what you wish for…

For fans of Eat, Pray and Love as well as the authors Freya North, Elizabeth Noble and Jane Green.

Seven years ago, Riva Singh and Aman Khan had a passionate love affair. Despite their attraction, Riva rejected Aman for reliable Ben, the man who became her husband.
Now, Riva is a bestselling London novelist, whilst Aman is a Bollywood superstar. Both have watched each other from afar but have stayed apart since their painful split.

But Fate appears to have other plans for them as they are thrown together at the Cannes film festival. Aman is torn between his desire for Riva and his young family - not to mention the havoc an affair would have on his golden boy public image. Beset by guilt, Reva knows that their love could destroy everything that they hold dear.

With so much at stake, will these star-crossed lovers follow their hearts - or their heads?

I have never tried anything by Jaishree Misra, her writing style is fabulous. The way she narrated the story of the two people was good but I didn't like the story though I still would love to read something by the writer in the future.

three and half stars.

This book I picked on a whim from the library as I wanted to break my pattern of serious reading. I hoped it would be a crisp munchy snack in between the heavy meals. But sadly for me it turned out to be a limp biscuit that is best gulped down quickly. Maybe it will work better for you. Anyways I was never a sucker for romantic stories. .
Riva Singh is a renowned British Indian novelist. Aman Khan is the reigning heart throb of Bollywood. Long back during their college days they had a fling. Now both are ensconced in their respective lives with no question of their trajectory ever crossing .But then life has a weird sense of humour. Their paths cross in Cannes where both are on the panel of judges. Will past overpower the present?
.
This is a light read. Best for readers who are fond of Harlequin romances.

Secrets and Sins follows Riva Singh and Aman Khan, two former lovers torn apart by circumstance who now live very different lives. Riva is a bestselling novelist in London; Aman is a Bollywood superstar. They meet again at the Cannes Film Festival, and the pull between desire, guilt, and societal expectations resurfaces.

What I appreciated was how Misra captures the emotional conflict — Aman is torn between his public image and his private longing; Riva is navigating her own sense of loss and what could have been. The story blends romance and moral dilemma in a way that feels real and often heartfelt.

It’s not perfect — some parts felt familiar, and the tension sometimes dips — but overall, it kept me engaged and left me thinking about love, forgiveness, and the choices people make.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 — Recommended if you enjoy emotional romances with a strong moral undercurrent.

As per the author this book is a "study of infidelity" & once you sit down with this one, the book will grip you with its poignance..

To start with, the plot basically revolves around Aman Khan & Riva Walia...Aman & Riva, for whom, the ten days at the Cannes film festival, after an estrangement of 15 years, is like escape therapy from their respective troubled marriages.
