They’re a team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous they’re sheer suicide! Harley Quinn! Deadshot! King Shark! Defeated and imprisoned, they’re being interrogated about their mission—and about who’s pulling the strings behind this illegal operation.
We get to see a glimpse into the team members' past (how they got arrested and recruited). It's just a tinny bit, so I can't wait for more details. I already love Harley's look (without the red and black suit).
Received in a Comixology bundle that came with my advanced ticket for Suicide Squad
Impressive beginning! More recognizable Suicide Squad characters are introduced. I really like King Shark being a member here, because he did some brutal things in this one (and sharks are just really cool). I'll definitely be continuing this series.
I don't know a lot about Suicide Squad. My buddy let me check out a Blu-Ray of them and then thought I might like to read Kicked in the Teeth. I will admit, the premise is cool. Some of the biggest and the baddest hooligans in the land are assembled to do top secret missions that regular heroes can't or wouldn't do. Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, El Diablo. There are others as well. They have plenty of work to do as assigned by their handler Amanda Waller. It's only a matter of time before things get complicated.
I liked the first book, but it didn't wow me. It's interesting enough to keep reading, but I have a lot of other stuff in the pipeline right now to keep me occupied.
Not very interesting issue. Nothing really happens. Six people bound. Tortured. Some slight flashback going on for most of the characters bound. Some vague revealing of why they are where they are. Quite boring.
Though I enjoyed the Suicide Squad movie well enough, we all know it had many flaws. I'm not sure if I waited to start this series because of that, or because I already just really love the Amanda Conner Harley Quinn series and am sucked into that storyline more. Either way, I'm glad this first issue was included in this year's Free Comic Book Day so I had more drive to read it. The in media res beginning was really good, and then getting into the individual backstories later was beneficial. Unlike the movie, which tried to get the backstories all out of the way at the beginning, this story held my interest more at the start. The backstories weren't unnecessarily drawn-out, and the emotions were still there. This issue did a great job at setting up the Suicide Squad (really, the movie should have done it more like this issue). It was quick but not forced, and I didn't feel like I was missing something. It makes me want to continue the series with more motivation than I had previously. The artwork in this was average; it did seem a bit inconsistent with Harley's appearance, but at least it wasn't too distracting.
As I’ve said a few times before I’m new to reading graphic novels and comics, so some of these characters I’m coming in with little to no knowledge of their pasts.
I enjoyed this a lot. It’s about supervillans so its dark gritty and gory. you get a touch of their pasts and their individual personalities. I was kind of shocked how they seemed to throw away a couple super villains but bad guys are bad guys so back stabbing was going to happen. I think the storyline was wonderful and intriguing. Harley Quinn’s story is mostly covered and it was interesting to see how her and Joker came to be. I’m more interested in Deadshot though. I’d like to know what happens to him because at the end the predicament he got himself into at the beginning still sounded unresolved.
I was trying to find a nice way of saying I don’t care for oversexed way Harley Quinn looked I much prefer her older look that I saw on the cover of Harely Quinn Hot in the City or even back to the bodysuit. It has nothing to do with me thinking that all women shouldn’t be drawn scantily clad. By all means draw them how you see fit I’m here for the story. Its just when I picture her I picture her with a little more class. Thats the only thing I thought was negative.
Knowing a little about DC and super villains I came into it expecting gore ,dark story line and dark humor. I got that along with a great story.
Gritty, Gory, Dark, and Fun… I hope to get the next one soon.
I am definitely giving this a strong 4 stars. I'm going to try and leave spoilers out of this. For the new year I wanted to bust away from my marvel bias and how better to do that than with a villainous story arc. Adam Glass did an awesome job with keeping you hooked from issue to issue. By the end of the issue I could practically smell when the plot twist was going to hit (not that I knew what it would be, just that it was coming). And yes, smell. My senses became that in tune to Glass' writing style. I adored how the characters were portrayed. I've always liked Harley, and Harleen Quinn was awesome to delve into. Joker's cameo was brilliant, the strapped on face was positively ghastly. And honestly, I never thought I would actually like Deadshot and King Shark, but who knew. And my admiration/hate relationship with Amanda Waller was definitely toyed with in this series. I'm headed into the New Suicide Squad now and I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
The start of Suicide Squad where our team is captured and is being tortured for information. All the members think how they ended up there. And we finally get our Suicide Squad.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Aaaand I'm even less excited about Suicide Squad. I just... I can't stand Harley Quinn's character and I don't feel like I'm going to feel attached to anyone else. The premise is interesting, but you'd have to power through Harley Quinn's LOL SO RANDOM quirks.
This was part of an attempt to reach every #1 issue of DC’s New 52 Relaunch. This was kind of quick and breezy. Well, breezy in a super dark and grim and gritty way. But this might be a fun team book to keep coming back to. Most people know who the Suicide Squad is these days. They have a lot of history. Basically, in recent incarnations; they are supervillains who have the opportunity to have years wiped off their sentence by doing jobs for Argus, usually commanded by Amanda Waller. At the beginning we have some villains being interrogated. Only 6 remain by the end and for their valience in the face of danger I guess, they are chosen to be the Squad. Yes it’s Harley Quinn, Deadshot, El Diablo, King Shark, Black Spider and Voltaic. I think this is an interesting team and I think this might be a good jumping on point for team and characters.
Pretty rad! I love how far this goes to show you how messed up the concept of the suicide squad is, and how intense Waller can be! I’m not a massive fan of the suicide squad in general, but this definitely wasn’t bad!
I liked this book a lot as a kid. Now it’s still worth reading but there’s nothing that makes it stand out that much. I really like the artwork though.
Maniacal fun. Glass is a strong writer with really good balance of the slap-happy pacing and dramatic noir balance. Because of all the character arcs and suits running the show, Suicide Squad reads more like your heist-type / police drama sitcom than an actual "comic book" if that makes sense.
The story still runs dry tactics of retelling certain storylines and retconning old faves like Harley and Deadshot, but it's forgivable when you realize how fun their antics are. Like those of the Scooby Doo gang.
It's not "stellar" work but it's good-natured action that never and "shouldn't" take itself too seriously.
great art and a good violent storyline. This is the Suicide Squad as it should be. My ONLY complaint.. WTF does Amanda Waller look like Halle Berry? What was wrong with the good old fashioned Waller who was an AWESOME character and showed you could be smart, tough, ruthless and control psycho convicts? Now she looks like the typical "I'm soooooooo hot but I'm also a badass" female trope that is all too prevalent in comics. Bad move Mr Glass but I forgive you because the rest of the Suicide Squad rocks!
This is one crazy little comic book! If anyone has ever needed a reason I respect Harley Quinn here it is. It also gives you some answers on how the whole Joker and Harley relationship first started. Over all great book, you'll definitely find some characters you like and it will leave you saying ...Whaaaaaat?!
The concept of putting villains in a Squad to carry out classified missions and fitting them with a kill switch is an excellent concept. I respect DC for taking this graphic approach to story telling, and mixing it up by putting villains together that we hardly get to see. The first issue is more of an introduction, but it gets better and better from here.
I might be 4 years late to the party, but the New 52 inception of SS is pretty damn cool. The art is very basic, but if you couple basic art with awesome story, it all pans out.
I dig the characters here even though I'm ashamed to admit I know only a handful.
All in all, this issue did it's job and unlike several other New 52 #1 issues, this one gets you hooked.
☠️ Issue #1 – “Kicked in the Teeth” They wake up tortured — literally. Deadshot, Harley, King Shark, El Diablo, and Black Spider are tested for loyalty in fire and electricity. Welcome to Task Force X: fail the mission, die. Succeed... still might die. The Squad’s first mission? Kill an entire stadium of infected civilians. This isn’t hero work.
