Lovely stories all.
Well written historical romances. It seems to be a fairly accurate rendering of 15th c Scotland. Some of the details of the politics were hazy in my memory, but they felt right. The characters were well drawn, fully human, and not reduced to stereotypes. I especially enjoyed Maggie as her growth and acceptance so closely paralleled my own. I like to think had I had as much time as she, my future would have been as hopeful as hers was. Which fact makes Jayne Castel a very successful writer if she so completely fulfills her readers' aspirations. Thank you, m'am.

It's always obvious that Castel has done a lot of research and makes the historical times come alive. The two stories in Volume One are no exception. The characters were engaging, and the plot kept my interest--enough that I immediately bought Volume Two.
