A lonely kelpie trapped in his small world. A human on the run in need of a safe haven.

Alaric

After almost killing two humans under the influence of dark magic, I'd lost the last of my will to live. What was the point, when every day was exactly like the one before and I had no one to share it with?

Just when I was about to end it all, a human came stumbling into my clearing with a bizarre offer: He'd be my friend if I promised to protect him from the people he was running from.

Bellamy

When I realized I was missing a day's worth of memories, I had to investigate what had happened, and it led me to Alaric. Fascinated by the strange being that he was, I ended up striking a deal with him.

The more time I spent with Alaric, the more I realized what a sweet and kind man hid behind the 'monster.' It wasn't a surprise when I fell in love with him, but the people I'd been running from were determined to find me. Would they let me have my happily ever after?

Redemption is an MM Monster x Human romance featuring a ramen-obsessed kelpie, a reformed human, and lots of sweet moments.

While Redemption is the fourth book in the Innocent Monsters series, it can be read as a standalone.

Note: This story features a monster-human romantic and sexual relationship.

I didn't believe in soulmates, or love at first sight, or any of that sappy shit. Those kinds of things didn't exist in my world. - Bellamy

Warnings: Violence, Assault, Murder but the good kind, Suicidal Ideation, Kidnapping

The Basics

Overall:
1st Person, Dual POV
3rd Act Break Up: No
Slow-burn: 50/50
HEA: Yes
MC Sex w/o Other MC(s): No
Spice: 2/5
Angst/Stress: 2.5/5
Fluff: 2/5
Structure/Format/Flow: 5/5
Overall: 5/5

Things had gone way differently than I'd assumed they would, but I couldn't say I was disappointed with the outcome. As much as I was ready to die, the idea of having a friend made me want to wait just a little longer. - Alaric

Intimate Moments Include:

”Going against what everyone's telling you to do because you know it's wrong, that's true strength." - Bellamy

Main Character Information:
Bellamy: “Bell”, 24, Human, dark hair, brown eyes
Alaric: “Ric”, ~500 years old, Kelpie, green eyes in Kelpie and human form

When he'd told me about the whole mates thing, I'd told him I had no interest in things like love or soulmates. Sometimes, I wished I wasn't such a good liar. - Bellamy

Notable Tropes/Tags/Themes/etc.:
Kelpie x Human Romance
Paranormal/Supernatural
Fated Mates
Strangers to Friends to Lovers

Damn you, you adorable little shit. - Bellamy

My Opinions on:
Between all the others, I feel like Bell and Ric’s story had more fun, action, and quirky romance. It was all around funny and interesting. It felt weird imagining a human and a Kelpie mating. The positioning in my head is wild. I love how Ric’s struggle with was brought up and not brushed off like it didn’t happen. I also love how even though they were fated mates, it didn’t just happen overnight, they were friends and let that part of themselves build up together.

Favorite Part: Ric’s obsession with ramen was fucking hilarious.

Favorite Side Character(s): Can ramen be a side character?

Hardest/Most Difficult Part: N/A

Thoughts On World Building: LOVE the way Nox told them about , the interconnectedness is to die for. No one does it better than SR.

It was also strange that my biggest hurdle was the fact that I had feelings for Ric and not that he was built like a horse and probably had a horse-dick stashed away under there somewhere. My brain was a strange fucking place to be. - Bellamy

Milestone Moments:

My heart was still beating faster than usual, and with my eyes closed, all I could see was Bellamy. Bellamy, with a wide grin on his face. Bellamy, with that little smirk that made the scar on his face even more prominent—and sexy. Bellamy, with that look of satisfaction on his face when he got his way. Bellamy, with that pleased look whenever I liked a show he wanted me to see or liked the food he'd made. And now, Bellamy, covered in my cum and looking mighty proud of it. - Alaric

Side Characters:
Nox:
Harlan:
Zaphyr:

But right then, under the water with his eyes sparkling with wonder as he looked around the place I'd called home for centuries? Yeah, he was the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen. - Alaric

I really enjoyed this book! I have enjoyed each book in this series so far, but I think this one is my favorite. I have never read a book about a Kelpie before and I found that character extremely interesting. Alaric's powers and the magic he has is so unique, the fact that he can wield water and morph it into what he desires is so cool!I really enjoyed how Alaric's character is portrayed as a grump, but he actually is a big ol softie. His character was so fascinating to read about, and I loved how he got invested in certain shows that Bellamy introduced him to. I also love the humor that was involved when these two men played games with each other, I found those moments really funny and enjoyable to read. Alaric's obsession with Ramen was funny and cute, he wanted to try all the flavors!

The relationship that formed between these two characters was definitely a slow burn, despite these two being each other's fated mate, they didn't automatically get into a relationship with each other. They took it slow and took their time to get to know one another, and formed a strong friendship and a strong bond before romance came into play. I really enjoyed how the relationship between these characters developed, the pacing was really good, the writing itself made sense, the characters were great too.

One thing I will say is that I personally don't think Bellamy's boss coming after him was needed. I understand why that was a part of the story, I understand what Stella was trying to do, I just found that it wasn't necessary.

Overall a really good addition to this series, I'm so excited for Ebenezer's book!!

5/5 ramen packets

Finally we meet the sweet kelpie!
Please check trigger warnings before reading this book. The intro is pretty dark, but Stella sets up the dynamic between Bell and Ric perfectly in this way. That is why I listed it as "just in time" meeting.
On on side we have a very lonely and abandoned kelpie and on the other side we have an ex thug on the run.
While this is a fated mates story, it takes them both a loooooong time to fully develop, or realize they have more then friend type feelings.
Bell and Ric are really great as friends. They bond so well over true crime shows, board games and Ric's superior love for ramen lol.
We get to see more of Bell's past coming for him and how they deal with this as a couple.
Would this really be an Innocent monster story if Nox didn't show up!
We get to see a lot of Nox and Harlan in this book. Some meddling is pretty typical in this case and of course.....they come bearing gifts for the new happy couple ;) .
If fated mates, friends to lovers, dealing with mental health together, the past coming back to bite and sweet couply cuddling is your thing... this this book (And series) should be on your TBR.
Like I've said before Stella's book as sweet and shy compared to other mm romance books in the genre. And I love it.
When I want something sweet I always turn to one of the many books in her collection.

Once again, Stella has delivered a great story she never disappoints. Alaric was saved from black magic by Nox and now is feeling depressed and lonely. Bell was rescued from Alaric while under the black magic infection. I like that Bell went back to his last location that he can temper because he’s missing some days and things aren’t adding up. I can totally picture this lake by the description given. What Bell didn’t expect was to meet Alaric after he tried to scare him away not knowing at that time Bell was his mate. Alaric so sweet and shy and not having a lot of interaction with humans. Bell being stubborn and wanting to show the wonders of life to Alaric. They both strike a bargain. Alec is going to protect Bell from the people that he’s running from and Bell will show Alaric how much fun living can be.

Reading how both were learning from each other was fun and interesting. I love Bell stayed camping but with camping comes needed supplies. The supply trip didn’t go the way they thought I’d was going too. When you get comfortable, you let your guard down and it can cost you. Alaric kept his promise and protected Bell from danger. During this time they both started having feelings for each other that were more than being friends. Finally they both come to terms with their feelings. Lots of friendship, growth, and love in this book. Fated mates always find a way to have their HEA.

Now it’s time for me to go have some ramen 😀.

This was super sweet!

Awww, Bell and Ric were adorable together! They both were in such dark places initially but seeing them learn to trust each other and support each other was so lovely. I felt awful for Ric. Being abandoned and living alone for so long, it made sense that he struggled. The fact that someone took advantage of that to try to make him something he wasn’t really was pure evil. I was so happy that he was able to find Bell (or more, Bell found him). He deserved to have someone who was able to see the good in him, the sweet, kind and fun person he truly was. Bell was a total sweetheart too. He was such a warm person despite everything he’d been through. He was perfect for a Ric and the way they slowly went from strangers to friends to lovers to full mates was perfect. I do wish we’d got a bit more at the end - I won’t spoil anything but I just wish we’d gotten to see them a bit further on and how it all worked out. Maybe we will in another series! It’s always awesome to see Nox again, and I can’t wait for the next book!

This was a sweet, generally low-angst supernatural romance (despite the accurate content warnings). It was lovely to see Alaric and Bellamy get to know one another. I enjoyed the fact that they started with figuring out how to be friends before anything else—it was clear this was what they both needed in their lives. Neither of them has known a lot of kindness, and yet they both flourish when they can give and receive it with one another.

I enjoyed the cameos from Nox and Harlan, the love of ramen, the hair brushing, and all the things that Alaric can do with water. I wasn’t sure how everything was going to resolve at the very end, but I should have thought of that possibility, and it was perfect. These two make a great team.

I can’t wait for Eben’s book!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

🌟 A good story!

Ok, so I have never given this amazing author less than four stars. I very much want to assure anyone reading this that the story overall was great with a wonderful beginning of the relationship and progression up to a certain point between the main couple. The reason for the three stars may be considered a spoiler by some so...

I was very uncomfortable with the inevitable intimacy due to the fact that a Kelpie's appearance is, with a few exceptions, as close to a real life animal as one can be so I imagine you can guess why I found that awkward to read. I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this book but I considered that to be a relevant distinction compared to other supernatural characters.

🌶🌶 peppers - non-human monster smut scenes
⚠️ trigger warnings - suicide attempt

A kelpie who loves ramen and crime dramas. So cute. Liked that Bell wasn't a sweet, innocent character. He was more rough as an ex-thug. Since there are only 200 pages, it is insta-love. But they start as friends, and while they know they are mates, they fall for each over time.

Like in book two, this is a full on non human monster, so the smut scenes have that. A kelpie is a horse, and all physical scenes are in that form.

The conflict in this book wasn't as terrible as some of the others, but there is kidnapping and descriptions of depression and suicide.

Even the "dramatic" conflict comes across as low-angst 🤣 This author's style is ... not the most engaging. I've wondered before if she's either very young or very sheltered? Because her couples just don't really seem to do a lot of adult (NOT a euphemism for sex) activities. Or, well, really much of anything at all? Anyway, this one has horse-cock sex (lol, kelpie-cock, whatever 🤣🤣🤣), but the relationship (and story) is a bit boring tbh. Still, I picked away at this one as I'm between series and made it to the end.

I was lucky enough to get an e-arc for this book. I really love Stella's stories a lot, there really fun reads. I loved Alaric and Bellamy's romance and Alaric's love for Ramen was so funny and freaking adorbs. Can't wait for the last book in this series. I know when I read a Stella's romance book it will always be a really fun time. And I love getting Nox in the different stories as well, what a cutie he is.
While I did get an e-arc these options our my own.

Ric stole my heart - he was so freaking sweet. He was lonely until he unexpectedly met his mate.

Ric and Bell were cute together. The underwater date Ric took Bell on was magical and romantic. My heart melted watching these two guys slowly losing their hearts.

This book is definitely my favourite in the series! Can’t wait for the next one.

Great new addition

I received an ARC copy of book.
Trigger warning talks about suicide.
Alaric is just not happy with life after being saved from black magic. Nox to the rescue by putting Bellamy in his path. It is a story of trust and learning to live with the difference between being a supe and human. Alaric has to come to accept himself as is and Bellamy is with him every step of the way. Lol with the ramen noodle reference.

I absolutely loved this story. The way these two found each other was amazing, and the way Bell refused to leave Ric was awesome too. The way Ric protected Bel from his past abuser was incredible and the fact that they couldn’t hurt anyone anymore helped, whether or not murder is ideal. I can’t wait to see what Nox pulls in his next match. I am also very happy to have read this book early for my honest opinion. Once again I loved it.

Lovely monster romance

The beginning was hard but once you get through that the rest is just wonderful. Alaric and Bellamy were meant for each other, I'm so happy Nox placed them in each other's paths. Despite the monster theme this was a well written realistic story. They had some fun moments that was enjoyable to read especially Alaric's obsession with ramen. This was a beautiful friends to lovers hurt comfort read and I looked forward to the next one.

Perseverance

Of the “monsters” Nox helped to save, Alaric was probably my favorite. This book started off in a pretty dark place for both him and Bellamy, but with a lot of stubbornness and patience, love developed along with their unconventional relationship. The characters and story were good, even if something about the whole thing didn’t quite hit the right note with me. Bonus points though for creatives uses of water.

So Good!

Another great story in the Innocent Monsters series. I love seeing each of these characters find their HEA. Bellamy and Ric are perfect for each other. Bellamy is a kelpie who is lonely and hopeless. Ric shows up and he too is lonely and could use a friend. He also helps show him what he has to live for. I love the friendship they build before their relationship. I’m so excited so see them possibly in the future because I love with them so much!

I absolutely loved this story. This is set in the human realm and can be read as a stand-alone but you’ll see a few familiar characters along the way. This was a very slow burn story with a lot of emotion and a wonderful storyline. The characters are fascinating and the story is so interesting that I just wanted to keep reading. I hope to see a lot more stories set in this world.

I have not come across a book by Stella Rainbow that I did not enjoy. I love her created worlds and I really like this series. Alaric and Bellamy are definitely made for eachother. They are both interesting characters and I loved their sort of slow burn story. Once you start reading you do not want to stop until you have finished. I recommend this book and this series!

Redemption is book 4 in the Innocent Monsters series. The book features Alaric, a Kelpie, and Bell, a Human. I liked the unique characters in this series and reading all about Kepies was fun and interesting. The book continues with everything I like about Stella Rainbow books and was a very enjoyable read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I absolutely love this series. All of them that lead up to this book. Seeing Alric and Bellamy come together not just because they are fated but because they started as friends. It's such a sweet Rollercoaster ride of emotions and love.

It's great when someone loves you just the way you are...but I still feel a little bit uncomfortable imagining making out sessions (and more) between a human and a horse (even if said horse is a kelpie). The second book about wywern has bestiary sex in the warning. I think it should be here as well

While this was a cute story, there wasn't a lot going on. I needed some more to come from the people after Bellamy. I needed more to the love story. But I think being trapped by the lake restricted a lot of what could happen. It was also interesting to keep Alaric in his horse form for the intimate scenes? I'm not quite sure I cared for that. I'm glad they're going to head to the Sanctuary and be among other creatures, because otherwise their lives were probably going to get really boring really quick.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was another good addition to the Innocent Monsters Series, and I’m glad that these Innocent Monsters get their own chance at finding their fated mates. I thought that Bellamy (Bell) and Alaric (Ric) were great together. Both of them finally have someone who cares about them. I really enjoyed learning about kelpie’s, since it’s not the usual shifter that’s written about. Ric’s love of ramen and his excitement over trying new flavours was absolutely adorable. I enjoyed seeing Bell’s walls slowly fall the more time him and Ric spent together.

It was nice seeing Nox and Harlan again and they helped Bell and Ric out on more than on occasion during this book. I’m hoping that during the last book of the series that all the Innocent Monsters and their mates end up forming their own kind of found family. Even if they only catch up every now and then. As they’ve all been alone for so long. It would be cool for them to have family that understands that, as well as their unusual quirks. I’m looking forward to reading the final book in the series when it’s released. Eben will no longer be alone after 2000+ years. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

******I received an early copy of this book because I’m a member of Stella’s Patreon. I happily reviewed this book and I would do so even if I purchased it. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

Sweet

This was a short and sweet story that fits in well with the series. Extremely low angst, and with characters you want to see get their happy ending. Would definitely recommend reading the rest of the series first but could be read as a standalone.
