HORIKOSHI Kouhei Name (in native language): 堀越耕平 Associated Names: Kouhei Horikoshi
Born 1986 in the prefecture Aichi, Horikoshi first attracted attention in the second half of 2006 when he entered Shueisha's 72th Tezuka Award for Newcomers with his one shot "Nukegara" and made it to the final six, where he gained himself an "Honorable Mention". Various short stories in Shueisha's Akamaru JUMP followed over the years until he published his one shot "Oumagadoki Doubutsuen" in issue #2/2010 of Weekly Shounen JUMP.

had the family reunion with the todoroki’s AND showed the best arc for a villain??? my favorite volume so far.
rei and the rest of her kids coming through to stop dabi was so bittersweet. the idea shoto couldn’t have finished dabi off without the rest of his family’s quirk was so nice especially as it shows they can work together to face a common enemy. the saddest part about all of this was rei’s quirk finally emerging out of dabi. all those years of abuse and resentment and it culminated only after dabi turned to a villain… such a tragic character.
toga’s final arc was the sweetest most thoughtful ending we could’ve had for her. she clearly is misunderstood but she chose to do all that for uraraka. they both are surprisingly my favorite pairing for the fights during this big arc. uraraka chose to show kindness and toga gave it in return. they both deserve the world. (also uraraka finally admitting she got a crush on deku… so cute!)
i of course loved the end with all might’s new gadgets. such a great cliffhanger to end off with.
this entire volume was a 10/10. all my favorite characters in one. so good.

Lets goooooo! Finally concluding several loose ends (Dabi, Toga, Hawks) and narrowing the plot again. Can't believe it took a whole volume of several short chapters to pick up after All Might's iconic "私が来た".
The fight between him and All For One is freaking epic!!! And All Might naming each of his armor moves after Class-A PLUS the armor just being a freaking epic version of Iron Man is EVERYTHING!!!! I can’t wait to see this in the anime! Not to mention the links between his backstory to his very first conversation with Deku allll the way back in Volume One woven throughout the fight and how it’s all coming together now…!!! It’s sick, I tell you, wonderfully sick! It’s amazing how all the moving pieces and threads are coming together and I love it as both a reader and a writer!
And Melissa’s cameo was so great! Loving how the mangaka is linking the movies to the main series in these small ways. And La Brava is basically a feral YouTuber and I love it. 🤣
On a less screaming fangirl note, I really like how throughout these last few volumes both Deku and Uraraka want to hear the “why” behind the villains’ actions or even how they became that way, but also don’t condone their terrible actions; there are consequences for those who do evil and the heroes don’t shy from exacting the punishment they deserve, while also showing they care about the villains as humans. In a time where fiction is rife with the whole “villains had trauma/are misunderstood, so we should just sweep their crimes under the rug and forgive them” narrative, this series is a refreshing reminder that, yes, you can understand, forgive, or even care for/love a person without condoning their bad actions or ignoring how they hurt a lot of other people by not making them “pay” for it in the end.
Violence: injuries and blood (PG-PG-13/R); fighting with weapons, superpowers, and hand to hand (PG-PG-13/R); a girl stabs another in the gut (PG-13/R)
Sexual: a girl’s shirt opens in the front all the way down to her stomach; a naked girl (nothing shown beyond if she was wearing a bikini); shirtless guys
Drugs/Alcohol: a guy smokes
Other: superheroes/supervillains/superpowers; a girl’s power has her “transform” into people by drinking their blood; monster like beings with “brains” outside their skulls; death
Explosive and unexpected endings to the Endeavour/Dabi and Uravity/Toga fights, and the beginning of the end for All Might and All For One. I don't know who's going to survive the end of this series, but I feel like it won't be me.
This is fine. Could be better, the creator might need some backup to make it to the finish (I read the afterwords about the editor about the art). If you made it this far and like the series I am sure you will enjoy this volume. I would say more but spoilers.
3.75 stars. A ton of action again in this volume, but also a ton of character-driven story. Todoroki’s storyline started this one off strong and emotional, Toga’s storyline took up a bit of the middle with a solid emotional story, and All-Might finishes off this volume with another emotionally-charged cliffhanger. You can see this story beginning to come to its conclusion very prominently in this volume.
i skipped adding volume 38 only because i didn't have many overwhelming thoughts when reading it. however i was crying at the front desk of my job reading this on (no surprises there. im overly emotional when it comes to mha)-- i have seen some criticism of the final war arc in that it moves around too much and that they go back and forward in time too often. it is a very long and disjointed arc but considering the fact that you're working with a huge number of simultaneously moving parts, all with their own individual character arcs and motivations, so much emotional impact and with everyone having both a personal and collective endgame in order to round out a series like this-- i think horikoshi does a great job! i don't mind the emotional rollercoaster even tho at times i feel like i have swallowed a tonne of sea water. horikoshi peak for now
-geten and mr compress both still baddies <3 - geten talking about how the himura family's blood ran really thick...in the sense that they were really committed to keeping the purity of their bloodline...👀👀.....sweet home alabama🎶🎶🎶 -it kinda eats me up that the moment that touya comes face to face with his dad he regresses into a childlike state. it's just so horrifying, seeing him burnt up like that and then the little panel of little touya who just wanted to be like his dad ;-; "watch me!" "natsu let's play!" and all of this becomes so much more sickening when enji comes to realise touya's having a quirk awakening in this state, and that he had both his parent's quirk all along....just the realisation that every horrible thing enji had done was in vain--that the child he was trying so hard to perfect had been perfect from the beginning--that all the suffering he cause his family was essentially futile...yeah..rei being there to witness it...i need to go sit down "you're guilty too, mom.." - "mom?" hahaha.....what if i jumped - "everyone's watching me. so this is what it's like? if it was such a simple thing, then why? why not sooner?" i think its true of all the members of LOV is that all they wanted was to be seen. we saw it with shigaraki & spinner and now touya who just wonders why it took all of this to finally be seen and understood by his family. to be accepted. - tsukauchi traumatised but still "you make one hell of a teacher, all might!" - iida and shoto <3 "todoroki! thanls to you....i'm becoming who i want to be. so get over there and make it happen for you too." im cryi - shoto's character development T-T "my friends care about more than just themselves. they get mad and shed tears for the sake of others. that's how i want to be too. it's not easy but i'm trying." - "my origin as touya and dabi. if it was so simple a thing..if only we'd butted heads like this sooner...there are still arguments i wanna have. and things i still wanna say!" shoto my love you are so so dear to me - he really became his family's hero. against all odds. - cut to uraraka and toga!!! - "you've got bloodlust mixed in there...so you're not working out of pure love." oof - and now toga who was only looked at in disgust and fear and told to hide her true self and just "act normal"--who was never be accepted because of her way of showing love. - "does everyone else just fight the urder to be the way they wanna be? why does nobody else suck blood like me?" poor toga :(( - "we're just built different! you people go one about happy blessed lives, but i don't get to feel a lick of that! your rules tell you to pity me but don't you dare!" - ugh seeing pre-afo shigaraki is so /3 i miss my twinky gamer - "quirls will grown stronger with every generation..until no one can hope to control them. over the years, we've heard whispers of that doomsday theory. well here it is..coming to a head today!! this one girl...her emotions are transforming the very world!" i actually love that we are getting to see the outcome of the quirk doomsday theory/quirk singularity - one of the things i really like about this series is that although heroes and villains are unapologetic about their beliefs, this newer generation of heroes takes into account the villain as a person too. they want to understand not only the meaning behind their actions, but the feelings behind them too. and although they cannot and do not condone their villainous actions, we've seen so far with izuku, ochako and shoto--they can take the extra step and try to understand where their villain is coming from. it isn't just the willingness to try but rather the determination and the intention to understand. - "and i don't wanna pretend i never saw your amazing smile!" ochako :,) - uraraka quirk awakening!!!! - "look i can't erased all your crimes or approve of everything you've done!! but!! if any part of you still feels like talking to me...you can have a lifetime's worth of my blood! so let's have that chat about romance himiko toga!!" i can't even pretend to be normal about these two "i wanna reach out and touch that sorrow inside of you!" like are we seeing this - "just like you and izuku they'd all scold and lecture me on the right way to be. that's why i joined the league of villains! cuz with them, i could live and love how i needed to!" this is so sapphic coded - "am i cute?" "the cutest in the whole world!" DOOOMED YURI NOOOOO - "i was so happy to heart what you had to say. i know i said it's live or die, winner takes all...but the though of a world without you? no i don't like that." don't do this to me - "all of my blood is now yours to have." STOP - "im himiko toga. i live and love how i please. that's how i made my way in life. just a normal girl! with the cutest smile in the whole world!" T-T they could never make me hate u toga - cut to all might set to face off against afo--it cuts me up that he immediately thinks of sir nighteye's foresight and his prediction that he would die facing off against a villain and how this could be it. like NOO MY GOAT DON'T DIE YET - armoured all might goes so hard - poor tsukauchi T-T "all we'd be broadcasting is the brutal death of a former hero" - i love that all might essentially pulls up to the fight to rage bait afo and it immediately works like... - im gonna go walk into the ocean....he's programmed moves and abilities into the suit that mimic the abilities of his students...don't talk to me right now..he loves them so much - "all that i've been blessed with will bear its weight against you!!" RAHHHHHH - "not once in my entire life have i gone into battle expecting to lose!!" that's my hero that's the symbol of peace right there - all might, a now quirkless man...going up against and holding his ground against the most savage villain...i just... - "toshinori yagi: rising/origin" preparing to cry my eyes out - "i just can't accept a world...where those who take from others come out on top. and then, those who've had everything stolen..their grief turns into hatred in an endless spiralling cycle.i want to make the world a place where everyone can live with a smile. and for that...the world needs a symbol." truer words have never been spoken - "a quirkless guy like me...has no role otherwise." toshinori yagi you will always be famous - double spread panels of shigaraki and afo and izuku and all might all connected...all knowing that they are fighting - shiggy has his freaky ass tongue out
i fear the next two volumes are going to break me into little tiny pieces <3
The emotion mixed with the action here... DAMN Three stories: 1) Fight against Dabi - As Endeavor tries to take Toya somewhere where the two of them can explode and die together, the rest of the Todoroki family gets involved and Dabi is able to be put out by Shoto's ultimate attack: Great Glacial Aegir. Still remains to be seen if Dabi will die from his injuries. 2) Ururaka vs Toga - Toga just wants to be seen, heard, and loved. Ururaka understands this deep down and uses it against Toga. Though she is stabbed by Himiko, she will survive because Toga gives her much of her blood, out of respect for their new friendship. Has Toga died? 3) All-Might vs All-For-One - This rematch has been coming for a long time. Using his car Hercules as a battle suit, Toshinori suits up to become Armored All-Might! Back and forth they go, but All-For-One is taking a beating. Continued next time....
Overall, this Volume was fantastic. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to more soon. Strong recommend.
A truly emotional volume as the battle between the heroes and villains gets more tense with words and not just attacks. It’s definitely Uraraka and Toga’s fight that hits it differently as we glimpse more into Toga’s past, and in the end she does do something heroic. The volume concludes with All Might and a memory from his past. A (100%/Outstanding)

Toga gives her final fight and it's actually kind of beautiful? I really liked the last few chapters with her, and saw her in kind of a new light despite herself still being a tad bit crazy. Then got Iron Man All Might, over the top dumb, but it is damn fun.
Vedremo.
