Summary: Tom continues recovering in the hospital as he lapses into a comatose state, Sam escapes the compound he was in and finds Gaia who decides to let him stay in her apartment for the time being where he'll recover, A new guy named Jake comes to school which makes Ed jealous thinking he'll steal Gaia away from him, and Lost ends with Tom mysteriously having disappeared from the hospital after Gaia initially believed the doctor was sending him to a hospital in Switzerland.
Not much to say about this one, other than what I've been usually saying but I guess the plot was semi-interesting at times and how much irritation certain bits made me.
1. The hospital security is really awful. The fact that the hospital nurse let Ed see Tom in the hospital without so much as an ID or background check is really baffling. Yes, Ed might be a nice person but not bothering to see who visitors claim to be can leave paitients vulnerable and possibly even worse off because nobody on the staff thought it was necessary to look into the person visiting. I don't even know how Loki would be able to snatch Gaia and Heather from the hospital if the security was actually competent.
2. All the time that Sam was made out to be "vague" and "mysterious" was just so damn obvious that the story might as well have already come out and said "SAM'S BACK" at the first chance.
3. Heather's friends are back to being jerks to Gaia even when previously they agreed to helping her and seemed happy about doing so.
4. What's the point of Jake? I see him as a character too similar to David (New kids, good at fighting, ect.). If you needed another possible love interest, why couldn't you bring back Inego (The guy Gaia danced with in book 8, Heat) and build on his character instead?
5. This might be just me, but why is Tatiana not messing up very much when speaking English? When she was first introduced, she was mixing up lots of words and not knowing what certain phrases meant. Now, she speaks English as well as any character. It's possible she could have been perfecting it off-screen/at school but I was never given any proof of this. I'm not saying it isn't possible for Tatiana to become a fluent English speaker, but I would like to at least read about Tatiana taking an English class or something to compensate.
6. The fight scene in the gym really angered me. The teacher is just letting Jake and Gaia duke it out without stopping them. It's also hypocritical for a school to not allow fighting yet will gladly let kids do it in gym even to the point of getting bloody noses.
7. I really hate how the gym teacher, Mrs. Argeski, was really uncaring when it came to following the school rules for the sake of the plot allowing Gaia and Jake to show each other their fighting skills. She saw how violent it was, yet never stepped in until Gaia was about to suffocate Jake to death. It's never said if kids are really allowed to fight in the gym but even then it's no excuse. How did she not care that Gaia and Jake were maiming themselves in the slightest??? Not to mention that Mrs. Argeski never sends either student to the nurse afterwards. Her behavior would likely have her fired in real life.
8. Making Sam's chapters try-hard vague was bad enough, but using the phrase "The Fugitive" around 34-35 times alone is WORSE. It's more repetitive than any other tired phrase from this shit.
Fun Fact: There are other ways of saying "Fugitive":
Synonyms: Escapee, runaway, deserter, absconder, refugee.
9. Speaking of words, what's with the two-time usage of the word gabbing instead of words teens (the main demographic of this series) would actually recognize like chit-chat or babble?
10. Even though the note ended up being from Sam, I'm surprised Gaia never thought that it could have been a rematch from Jake.
11. Lost claims that Gaia "Had nightmares almost every night since he died" despite how she's barely shown having any. I don't even think I remember her mourning much over Sam.
12. If Gaia was aware of a small room in the apartment nobody else seemed to notice, why didn't she ever go in it earlier? It just felt asspulled just so Sam could somehow stay hidden when staying with Gaia. Also, maybe it would have been a better idea to buy a lock to install on the door when Gaia was out shopping for Sam.
13. I love how Gaia somehow doesn't collapse after fighting off Tommy and his pals despite how she did that after nearly every fight.
Maybe once I get finished with Fearless I'll ESCAPE to a better series....
