Melinda never really knew her husband. Until he died.

When Melinda’s husband, Gabriel, is murdered while walking their dog in some local fields, her world is smashed to pieces.

Melinda, who was also attacked and knocked out during the terrifying ordeal, tries to get her life back on track, but the grief is overwhelming.

Now convinced Gabriel was targeted on purpose, Melinda becomes obsessed with discovering the truth about her husband’s death. But her daughters are concerned she’s becoming delusional and she’s seeing conspiracies where there are none.

As she digs deeper into his past, Melinda begins to realise that Gabriel had secrets, that despite all their years together, she may never have really known him.

What she doesn’t realise is that she is inching towards the biggest secret of all, a secret that people have killed for – and died for. Can Melinda uncover it before she becomes its next tragic victim?

I was born in 1979 and live in Kent with my wife and children. I ran a private investigation agency for over fifteen years, dealing in cases that involved breach of contract claims, commercial debt recovery, and process serving. My agency also specialised in people tracing, so much of my work revolved around tracking down debtors, dealing in adoption matters and locating missing persons. At times, I worked on some pretty bizarre cases and dealt with plenty of interesting and sometimes colourful individuals.

I’ve had a huge passion for screenwriting for many years and started writing novels in 2021. My first novel, The Tests, was based on a spec screenplay that I originally wrote back in 2009. The Tests was then republished with Inkubator Books in 2022 under the new title, The Wrong Girl.

I’m not sure how I found this book, but I’m glad I did. The murder of her husband seems like a robbery gone bad, but all is not as it seems. And what a complicated tale emerges! Fast paced, gripping, tantalizing with a little sorrow to boot! And once you think it’s over, the author continues to explain and wrap up this interesting story! I’m definitely checking out more of his books!

I’ve read other work by this author, so I had high hopes. Wow did it deliver!
When Melinda’s husband is murdered whilst walking their dog, Melinda falls to pieces thinking about the last things she ever said to him. But a flashback to the day of the murder, when she was brutally attacked as well, sets her on the path of finding out what the words she heard on that day meant. Right from the beginning this book was an intense read with many twists and turns. Her daughters don’t believe her and I really couldn’t decide if she should trust any of the people she meets in her quest to discover the truth. Melinda is a fabulous character, loving to her children but determined to push through her devastating loss, taking many risks. There were also quite a few moments when I was truly shocked, but equally felt so much sympathy with one character in particular.
I can’t really say anything more about this book without spoiling it for other readers. I’ll just leave it at, if you haven’t read anything by Robert W Kirby yet, then this is the perfect one to start with. It’s a definite 5* from me.

Browsing through titles on NetGalley, this book’s blurb caught my eye. This book was even better than the blurb. I raced through the pages of this psychological thriller and could not put this book down. This is a “new-to-me” author whose book I enjoyed from start to end. “I Remember Now” is a riveting and emotionally charged book that immerses you in a gripping story about grief, secrets and a quest for the truth in the wake of a shocking murder. The author weaves a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat, leaving you eager for more.
The story begins with a brutal murder, leaving Melinda shattered by the loss of her husband, Gabriel. As the tale unfolds, the author explores the profound impact of Gabriel’s murder on Melinda. Her grief is vivid and you are immediately drawn into the depths of her pain and loss. The author beautifully portrays the complex emotions and trauma that accompany such a tragic event.
The story takes an unexpected turn when Milinda experiences an intense flashback months after the incident. This pivotal moment sets the stage for the heart of the story as she becomes convinced that Gabriel’s murder was not a random mugging; it was a targeted attack. The author effectively conveys Melinda’s growing obsession with uncovering the truth, making her a relatable and engaging protagonist. As she delves deeper into her husband’s past you are gradually introduced to the secrets Gabrial had kept hidden, leading to a sense of profound mystery and suspense.
I loved how the author kept me guessing. Melinda’s daughters grow concerned about her as she becomes increasingly consumed by her quest for the truth and the tension escalates. Kirby plays with the notion of whether Melinda is chasing delusions or legitimate conspiracies which creates an intricate psychological landscape that adds depth to this story.
The slow reveal of Gabriel's secrets adds layers of intrigue, turning this book into a compelling exploration of identity, trust and the complex nature of human relationships. The suspense builds as Melinda inches closer to a revelation that people have been willing to kill and die for. You are kept wondering if Melinda will discover the truth, or if she will become the next victim.
This book is an enthralling thriller that combines the emotional depth of grief with a suspenseful mystery. This book is full of relatable characters and maintains a high level of tension throughout. As the layers of secrets are peeled back, you will be captivated by an intricate web of lies and the intense psychological journey of the protagonist.
Just in case you are not sure – I loved this book and I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work.
“I Remember Now” is due for release in November, this is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a blend of psychological suspense and emotional depth in their thrillers.

Melinda and her husband Gabriel are both self-employed and have two grown-up daughters.

When her husband goes out walking their dog and forgets his house keys, she hurries after him. She can see Nutmeg and Gabriel in the distance, but just as she is about to call out to them, she senses someone is behind her. The last thing she remembers is being hit, and when she regains consciousness, her husband is dead and she is injured.

I struggled to get into the story. I found the introduction rather puzzling. I also felt that Melinda's attitude was unsympathetic, as she is quick to irritate those around her. I also thought her comments about her daughter Gracie were a little off-putting.
On the other hand, I found the flashbacks to 1991 a delightful break from the lackluster beginnings. It reminded me of the group of friends and their camaraderie like in the start of Stephen King's film IT.
Apparently there was a terrible incident in their childhood in the woods that still affects their lives as adults. This horror shapes their existence.

I found certain parts of the novel far-fetched, for example Melinda, who, although she had not ridden a horse for years, remained an accomplished rider and kept control when the horse went wild.

The story is slow at first, but perseverance pays off as the pace picks up in the middle and there is a steady stream of calamity and action until the ending. The second part is particularly gripping. I found the story surrounding the accident somewhat predictable, but not the execution.

Melinda is hard on others and her behaviour of rummaging through other people's handbags is brutal and inappropriate. In any case, I’d immediately cut all ties with her. It is remarkable that Lottie keeps in touch with her. I felt more sympathy for Ruth than for Melinda.

Shaun is the true tragic anti-hero of the story. He eventually corrects his past misdeeds by doing the right thing, and I found him the most sympathetic character.

*** 3 stars.
Slow start, but with an exciting and even emotional second part, which ultimately saves the story.

I love when the tangled webs we weave start to become untangled. This book delivered on the emotional aspect of it, and then we see how strong Melinda is. She is in for the fight for her life. Intense thriller. I will recommend to others.

This is my fourth read from this author and in my last review (after loving the others - all 5* reads) I said that I had to be patient while waiting for my next offering.....and it's here!!
Actually, I have been extremely lucky to have read this one....and have another one coming in December for you, so watch out for that one too!

I absolutely love this author's writing style and have even gone as far as to say that they are on my auto-buy list now - and I am still obsessed!

You know that I'm a "judge a book by the cover" girl and although this one isn't dark or creepy as such, it just really stood out to me as something I'd pick up straight away.

I loved the premise of this book and the blurb had me hooked in straight away.
The idea that there's a world full of secrets hiding in what seemed like a normal happy marriage - and even more intriguing are the flashbacks and lost pockets of memory for Melinda.

Once again, this was a really exciting read with lots going on and some great twists throughout. It definitely kept me guessing right through and although more slow burn than I often read, I love that we get the chance to see things bit by bit and have the chance to come up with theories of our own - even if they didn't go anywhere!

Another amazing read - which I never doubted!
I can't wait to dive into my next read now - book 2 of the Bartell Crime series - I'm so excited....

It's my stop on the Book Tour organized by Zooloo's Book Tour for I Remember Now by Robert W Kirby. Read on to know what I thought of the book!

I Remember Now is a psychological thriller with a twist that most won't see coming. The story follows Melinda as she tries to uncover the truth behind her husband's sudden death. She is pretty sure that he was murdered and through the course of her sleuthing, she uncovers deeply hidden secrets that force her to take a step back and think about the person she thought she knew and with whom she built a whole life.

The initial chapters felt a little disconnected and it was not easy for me to connect with Melinda or her daughters. However, on reading further, more of the story is revealed and through flashbacks which were handled quite well, the story starts to get better. The story all seemed to come together very quickly and easily in the end, but the twists and turns were unexpected and this kept the element of surprise real.

I felt that most of the characters were just shown at a surface level and many of their connections with one another were not explored deeply. This would have added a lot more intrigue to the plot. But overall, this is a good read and is interesting enough towards the second half to keep the reader guessing until the end.

Melinda never really knew her husband. Until he died. How would you feel if you were Melinda? To me, that sounds very scary and nerve wracking. Does that mean Gabriel wasn't a good person? Read to find out why! As someone who lost the love of her life unexpectedly, I cannot imagine experiencing that. I totally relate to Melinda with the overwhelming waves of grief. This book had me reeling. It was so good, I will now read earlier works of Robert W. Kirby. I love the part where it says you'll enjoy this if you've read Daniel Hurst, Freida McFadden and Kiersten Modglin. Psychological thrillers with those overwhelmingly, shocking twists are my favorite!

My Thoughts: Roberts writing just has me so easily gripped every single time, I know that if I’m going to pick up a book of his I’ll enjoy it!

This one was a lot slower than the others I’ve read from him to begin with, but it had to set the story, there were a fair few characters to keep track of and I couldn’t work out how they were all connected as they all just seemed so different.

It’s not until you get to about the half way point that things start to slowly fall into place & the action really picks up!

This felt more than just your average psychological thriller, there was elements of family drama that really made you think and so many secrets being kept by so many people.

This was told mainly in present day but with odd chapters from the past which gave the book a well rounded feel.

I absolutely loved it and urge you all to add it to your TBR!

The book is suspenseful and it has many layers. Melinda’s husband Gabriel is murdered while walking their dog. But that’s not the end, that’s the beginning of the revelation of truth and removal of all the layers that were bound deceitfully to Melinda’s eyes. Gabriel was harbouring secrets and she didn’t know her husband before that. When she dive more into Gabriel’s Murder mystery, the shocking truth and secrets unfolds. She gets tangled in the deceiving web of secrets, lies, mystery and dangers. Will she become the next victim? Or she will get to the depth of the mystery?

Here is my review of I Remember Now by Robert W Kirby

I got into this book straight away and it held my attention to the end of the book, it’s a terrific story to read. Full of twists and turns which will get you thinking as the book is set in the present day and from 1991. Some of the killings are a bit gory but it’s in keeping with the psychological mind planning them all. The plot is well thought out where the writing and descriptive styles are superb. Melinda is married to Gabriel and when he is killed, she can’t handle the grief. Her daughters stay with her for just over two months and on the first night she is left alone, she has too much wine to drink and falls down the stairs, hitting her head on the way down, triggering a flashback to the day of the attacks. She’s vaguely awake when someone says, ‘Remember the crash, Gabe?’ What crash do they mean? Although she told the police, Melinda continued to investigate herself. I absolutely loved reading this book and will keep an eye out for more of this author’s work to read.

All it took was the title...

I Remember Now

Where are you going with this Robert W. Kirby?

I was intrigued and needed to know more, the cover was strangely adorable and I knew this would be the book to send chills up my spine...

What a naive little girl I was...

This book is straight up terrifying. When something can feel so real you feel it in your gut, you know this is an author to be reckoned with.

Well hot damn this book delivers over!! After I concluded I was left in awe and would continue to think about what I had read, long into the night. My head was spinning, gahh, that was twisted.

Check out this teaser :

Wow!!! What a read. It is rare that I give 5 stars but this book is a well deserved 5 stars and is so much more than a psychological thriller. Yes it is thrilling but it is also tragic, haunting and thought provoking. The characters are well rounded and their relationships poignant and complex.

Melinda is devastated when her husband Gabriel is murdered in front of her and she is injured in what appears to be a random robbery. Melinda’s emotions and grief at her loss (and to my mind the grief of Nutmeg, Gabriel’s dog) are beautifully described. Robert W Kirby certainly has a way with words. Months later Melinda has a flashback that convinces her that Gabe’s murder was not random. That realisation and her decision to find out more starts a chain of events that put her and those she loves in the gravest danger.

Told mainly in the present but with flashbacks to the terrible events of August 1991, I was completely baffled as to what the motive could have been for Gabe’s murder and how it could possibly tie in to that afternoon in 1991. This is one of those books I found difficult to put down because I needed to know the answers but it is also one of those books that are so enjoyable you don’t want to finish it.

The end is everything you want from a thriller. Tense, violent and when all is finally revealed, it came as a real shock. This author has joined my ever increasing list of must reads.

This was my first book written by Robert W Kirby. He is now added to my favorite authors of psychological thrillers. When I saw on the books description “perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Daniel Hurst, Kiersten Modglin” I figured I would give it a chance since I absorb those authors books in one sitting most of the time. I am really glad I did.

I do not like reading or writing reviews that give away the plot so you won’t find the juicy details here but I will tell you that Robert Kirby knows how to write a story that grabs your attention. The story starts out with the main character (Melinda) being assaulted and her husband being murdered. After an incident that happens to Melinda inside of her home, she begins to remember the words spoken by the perpetrator during the assault. She is now convinced that the incident was not a random mugging as others believe and instead was a planned attack. The believable characters hold a piece of the puzzle and Melinda will do whatever it takes to find out the truth regardless of who believes her or not. Because she is so relentless, will she be relieved or tormented by what she finds out? Get the book and find out! You will not regret it!

Rating: 4 ½ 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: I Remember Now
Author: Robert W Kirby
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: This was such a good book! I have not read any books by Kirby, but after this one, I will be looking out for more. Who knew a murder mystery could uncover lies and a cover-up that would be so shocking. I really loved how there were twists that you do not see coming, but they are not far out twists, and they tie into the storyline so well. I have to admit, I was pretty upset about one part of the ending and wish that part would have been left out.

Cheers and thank you to @InkubatorBooks and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @IRememberNow.

A haunting event from their adolescence casts shadows on the lives of a group of friends, but who truly knows what transpired that fateful day? Witnessing a car crash during their youth, these teenagers find themselves making choices that reverberate far into their adult lives. Later, a woman is devastated by the loss of her husband in what's labeled as a "mugging gone wrong." Determined to unearth the truth, she grapples with haunting memories of her husband's death, leading her to doubt the official police narrative.

The narrative is densely packed with characters, each holding fragments of the past. While I found myself occasionally questioning the realism of certain events and found the portrayal of the police somewhat detached, the story still kept me engaged. Some moments felt rather conveniently orchestrated, yet the tale as a whole was undeniably engrossing. A heartfelt thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing an advance copy in exchange for my candid feedback.

I really enjoyed this book, it was well written with a compelling story line that hooked me in right away and well developed characters that were all believable and relatable, in some way or another.

I found the premise so interesting, I have read a lot of books where characters wake up from injuries/ accidents/ attacks and have no memory and I find it fascinating to read about the gradual unfurling of their memories. I have three different neurological problems - because I am obviously greedy and one wouldn't be enough - and all of them have effects on my memory/ thoughts and brain in general, so this is something I can really relate too.

This book includes flashbacks to the past which is a narrative technique that I love in books and it was done really well in this one, I really enjoyed it. It really helped me get to grips with the charcaters and so forth.

The book was full of twists which kept me guessing too, it was unpredictable and I didn't figure out the end twist which was a massive plus for me.

I really liked it

‘Life would never be the same again. She’d just seen two people die… Die in the most hideous fashion. The pools of blood, dark like blackberry jam’. What a way to start a book!

The novel jumps between Melinda’s point of view as she tries to cope with the loss of her husband, & Shaun’s point of view as he tries to deal with the lows in his life.

The author throws the reader into a scene of chaos from the first chapter. After a spousal spar, Melinda goes to the local park to drop off Gabriel’s bag. What she encounters at the park will change her life forever.

Melinda witnesses the brutal murder of her husband Gabriel. Despite her heartache and grieving, she is convinced that something isn’t right.

Melinda tries to put together the pieces that led to her husband’s demise, while Shaun realises he has to face the truth from many years ago. As the story unfolds, Melinda and Shaun’s life and truths will come crashing together and will set the story ablaze.

What do we really know about the people we share this world with...Melinda Teesdale is about to find out in the most cruel way.

When Melinda's husband Gabriel is fatally stabbed and Melinda brutally attacked in the sleepy village of Stablecroft, the police seem to think that is was just a random act of violence.

As Melinda is trying to heal, she has a flashback, and she remembers words being said to Gabriel on that fateful day. Word that will haunt her, but words that also be the key to unraveling what happened to Gabriel.

While digging for answers, and stopping at nothing to get to the truth, she learns that Gabriel was not the kind and caring husband and father he pretended to be, and that he was keeping very dark secrets from her.

I Remember Now is a brilliant and twisted psychological thriller with twists and turns until the very last page!

I've read a few books by this author now, and this is one of his best! In a way it reminded me of the first book I read (The Tests, republished as The Wrong Girl by Inkubator Books) but it had a similar feel to it, where snippets of the past are connected to a terrifying murder. The backstory involves a gang of teenagers playing in the woods - a horrific crime is committed - and then the twists unwind slowly... I was truly hooked by this mesmerising saga, as well as its complex characters, the beautiful visual descriptions and the mystery at its heart. While reading this, I formed my own theories (as you do) but none came close to the truth. The final third of the book takes you on a nail-biting rollercoaster but a final twist that left me gob-smacked. Very well done!

I received an ARC copy of I Remember Now by Robert W Kirby.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! When Melinda's husband Gabriel is out walking their dog, he is murdered, and Melinda trying her hardest to figure out what has happened. When she has a flashback, she knows where she has to start digging to get to the truth, which leads her further and further down a rabbit hole that reveal shocking things about the past.. what will she sacrifice to find out? will she get hurt along the way? did she really know her husband at all? the author does an excellent job telling the story from both past an present timelines that will eventually merge into the horrible truth. I really enjoyed reading this book .. and loved the dog's name.. NUTMEG! how cute!

I was so invested in this from the start. Tk say it starts with a bang is an understatement! There's a pot of moving parts and a lot of plot lines. The story carefully unfolds and everything is always moving forwards at a good pace. The characters are well written, even if some of the events and reveals were a tad too dramatic to be realistic. It's a fiction though and we can ignore these things for the sake of a good book. A really good domestic noir

I Remember Now is fast-paced, well-written, and it's one of those stories that once you start reading you cannot stop. A crime from the past will unravel the lives of several people until the mystery is solved. A tenacious mother will discover that she did not know her husband as well as she thought and will rely on her daughters to bring the truth to light. Great entertainment!

A Very Interesting Book!

So many dark secrets, suspense, murder, lies, deceit and twists and turns that had you glued to each passing page to find out what the big secret was. It finally all was revealed at the ending. It just amazes and sickens me to know what some people will do for money. The ending was drawn out a little too long and had me ready for the book to end but it had a good storyline.

This leads her on a mission to find out what happened and into danger.

1st off kudos to the author for this spine tingling thriller that had it's hooks in me from the beginning. As I read it I was thinking of the old phrase "curiosity killed the cat" well I must of died many times over cause dang if I wasn't curious all through this book 🤔.

The blurb was super interesting, but the ending just didn't live up to the story.

The story was ok, but the build up was too intense, leaving the ending feeling like it could never be enough, and for me, it fell really flat.
