Christine McKay has spent a lifetime honing her skills as a reporter and becoming an authority on the occult and New Age. But nothing could have prepared her for the terrifying evil she encounters when she investigates a ritual murder in picturesque Sedona, Arizona.

Spiritual warfare has existed since the time of Genesis, but ever since Frank Peretti's Darkness duology sold in the millions and made Christian fiction a viable market, bookstores and libraries have been flooded with angels-versus-demons stories, of which Sedona Storm is one. It may owe a lot to This Present Darkness, but Sedona Storm is an enjoyable, if implausible, read. I do have to warn anyone who tries to read this: Due to the subject matter, there are numerous frightening moments, so, this isn't for the easily scared. I'm interested to see how the sequel will be.
I started reading Sedona Storm mainly because I know Barbara Scott and respect her talents as an editor, not because I normally read books on spiritual warfare. Because this is different from any book I’ve read before, I really have no standard for comparison regarding the content. The writing is good, and there’s no mistaking the Christian message. From the first page of the novel I found myself immersed in demons and angels, and later I encountered Satan himself, all this in a narrative where that material was interwoven with a story that—although it carries a great message and has more than the usual measure of suspense—is graphic enough that it’s not for the faint of heart. If you enjoy well-written Christian novels that feature angels and demons fighting it out for the souls of the characters, if you like Bible quotations used frequently to illustrate points and bolster arguments, and if you don’t mind your opinion on abortion being either reinforced or challenged, Sedona Storm will be a perfect read for you. This review applies to the updated version of Sedona Storm, released in September of 2013. I received a complimentary copy from one of the authors, with no requirement that I post a good review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I understand it was originally published a decade or so ago and the authors have modernised it (even with an iphone mention!). A story of the unseen world that angels and demons inhabit interwoven with the natural world of man is as timeless as the Bible.
It's suspenseful and contains some graphic scenes that are not for the faint of heart but it's how the authors depict the two worlds intersecting (including many a collision) that has the reader spellbound. Prayer engages heaven by activating angelic assistance and this is wonderfully demonstrated in this novel.
We see the consequences of dabbling in the darkness, yes, it can destroy, kill and steal. But we also see grace, healing, forgiveness and salvation. Yes, this novel sure packs a lot in it.
I'm pleased the authors elected to re-launch after so many years as it's messages are important for the world to hear.
This book was amazing!! It is a great fiction story about what we expect spiritual warfare would be like in everyday life. It is very similar to Frank Perretti's two books about Spiritual Warfare: Peircing the Darkness and This Present Darkness.
Sedona Storm helped me put my finger on why these angel-warfare books don’t work for me. When it comes to the sovereignty of God, I don’t believe in suspense. Not only does God win, demons have no power to act without His express permission. Hard to write a plausible spiritual warfare suspense novel given those truths.
