Beechwood Falls #1

Admittedly for Me

Rate this book
Ian
Five Years.

It’s been five years since Emery Davis stepped foot in this town. Frankly, I didn’t think she’d ever come back.

Now that she’s here - I see what time has done.

She’s not the girl I remember. She’s closed off. Distant.
And despite the pull to her I still feel, I can’t give up my new values and what I’ve worked so hard for since she left.

I’m different. She’s different. But when we’re thrown together as the best man and maid of honor, it’s too much temptation to resist.

Emery Davis has always been my kryptonite but she’ll destroy us both if she can’t face her past.

Emery

Five years ago, I left my demons, and Beechwood Falls, in the rearview mirror. Escaping the haunting memories, expectations, and the only man who made me feel everything I don’t deserve.

I never wanted to come back. But when my best friend asked me to be her maid of honor, I gave her the only answer I could.

Yes.

Now all I need to do is avoid the best man for the next month. Which is anything but easy in a small town.
I’m not the bubbly girl this town once knew - locking the heartache away has been the only technique to get me up each morning.

But Ian sees me. He’s always been patient. Kind.
Even if he does make me beg behind closed doors.

The more time we spend together, the more I feel like my old self again. It’s terrifying, yet freeing to my soul.
And as much as I don’t want to feel, maybe it’s time to accept my past once and for all.

Admittedly For Me is book one in the Beechwood Falls series by Jenna Lockwood. A standalone filled with spice and angst, this dual POV delivers a sizzling HEA.

This is my first time reading one of Jenna's books, and her writing blew me away. I look forward to checking out her backlist and reading more books.

Admittedly For Me will pull at your heartstrings. I did not think this book would be as emotional as it was, but I still loved every minute of it.

Emery, you sweet soul, the things she has dealt with will have you weeping. Unless you have gone through the loss she has, it's hard to understand what she is dealing with, and everyone grieves differently. 💗

Oh, Ian, if he was real and I was single, I would swoop him up in a heartbeat. He just wanted to love her and be her rock.

It's an emotional, sweet, heartwarming, and steamy read that you won't regret reading.

This story is a small town romance that involved grief, betrayal, and nee beginnings. Emery lost both of her parents in a terrible car crash. Unable to handle her grief, she moved away from her small town. She even left without saying goodbye to Ian, who had been there for her. Ian also lost his mom so he was able to relate and be there for her unlike anyone else. Her leaving without saying goodbye to him was devastating for him. Emery returns to town 5 years later for her best friend’s wedding. She has to spend time with Ian again because he’s the best man and she’s the maid of honor. He brings out all of the feelings she’s been able to suppress the 5 years away.

I really liked Ian in this book. He seemed to always say the right thing and was always thinking of Emery. However, Emery rubbed me the wrong way. She acted as if she was the only one experiencing grief when both of Ian’s parents had died as well. She would tease Ian when he stated he wanted to be more with her and she wasn’t willing. She came off very selfish to me. Ian went to Aspen for her and instead of admitting her feelings or going to him, she grabbed another guy and made it seem like she was in love. Obviously he wants what’s best for her and if she seemed happy he wouldn’t ruin that for her. Then she got mad he went back home? I just couldn’t vibe with her in this one.

ARC BOOK REVIEW

This book was utterly beautiful, and I feel so happy I was able to read this. Admittedly For Me is a dual POV book that follows Emery and Ian. I love these two characters so much.

Emery closes herself off to everyone she cares for and the world after dealing with some heavy past traumas and moves away from her hometown and throws herself into work.

The book begins where Emery returns back to her home town after 5 years of being away, to attend one of her best friends' weddings. Being back home was the last thing she ever wanted to do, and when Ian finds out she is back, he decides to try everything he can to make her stay again.

Ian was the only one who truly knew her and understood how she was feeling deep down. Their relationship is definitely difficult when she returns home as Emery does not want another relationship after how her last one ended and all Ian wants is the person he will spend forever with. Definitely not on the same wavelength at the start.

There had always been chemistry between them in the past and when they saw each other again 5 years later. Ian kept on trying to break down Emery's walls that she had built up and made her face the facts and how she was truly feeling until she could admit it to herself.

Over time, the walls came down, and their relationship grew even with everything that was happening around them. Grief was a very large part of the plot, and it was so well written by the author to show all of the ups and downs it causes in someone's life.

I loved Emery and Ian's love story, and I am so happy that everything worked out for the best in the end.

OMG when do I begin!!!!! I absolutely LOVED this book!!! The emotions this brought out of me!!! I’m sending my tissue bill to Jenna 🥹💗

This book is about Emery who is working through the grief and internal blame over her parent’s death. She goes back to Beachwood Falls for her best friend’s wedding and runs into Ian. Ian who was the right man at the wrong time / he was in a relationship with her best friend.

Jenna wrote a beautiful book of Emery working through this grief and breaking down those walls to let Ian in.

I loved the forced proximity aspect of this book as Ian was working on renovations at Emery’s aunt’s house.

I loveeeedhis nickname for her - Daisy Girl!!!!

Also Ian and his mouth!!! Omg it was hotttttt!!!!

The bathroom moment 🤭🤭🤭

Also the way Ian looks out for his niece had me melting!!! He was so kind and nuturing!

Overall, I loveeed this book so much and I am so excited for what’s coming next.

Thank you to Jenna for kindly sending me this arc to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book 😊

Emery and Ian

3.5 ⭐️

In high school emery looses her parents and her friends want to help her keep her normal life so her best friends boyfriend has always been close with emery that even when they are in the verge of breaking up they stay together for her. Emery had a crush on her best friends boyfriend and almost kissed him one night… then she up and leaves for 5 years! She moves to aspen to become a chef. She comes back to her hometown when her bestfriend gets engaged and she has to see Ian again but she tries her best Tim it see him or talk to him. But everyone wants to know why she up and left without saying anything. Emery tells him eventually that it’s because they almost kissed when he and her best friend were still dating. But that isn’t the whole truth. They were only still “together” because of Emery. And she finally knows that he had felt something for Emery back then as well.

Eh this story fell kind of flat for me.. didn’t really make sense if you don’t like/love someone there is no need to stay in a relationship to make someone else feel normal… that backfired in this scenario…. But i didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two characters… just wants for me i guess

I received and arc in return for my honest opinion

Second Chance Romances are often tricky for me. There has to be a good reason for me to buy into the reconciliation—why should the two characters be together after all this time? In Jenna Lockwood’s “Admittedly For Me,” Emery and Ian haven’t seen each other for five years until their best friend’s wedding brings them together. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Emery had left home, and now that she is back, though she does try to dodge Ian, he doesn’t let go.

Emery had put so many emotional barriers that it was difficult for Ian to break down; however, he didn’t give up on her. “Admittedly For Me” is a slow burn and emotional once you understand Emery better. Ian is thoughtful, kind, and highly patient with Emery—he scores points on that end. I also loved how direct he was, calling Emery out when she needed to be. He’s a favorite––especially during the spicy scenes.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first Jenna Lockwood novel and it definitely will not be my last. This book had me hooked from page one.

While the main female character does take some getting used to (she’s very stubborn and has attitude), she is also portrayed as someone who is truly healing. It’s not all fun and games and the way she handles it is realistic. It’s messy and chaotic.

I don’t often say this, but all the characters in the book play a part throughout the entire story. It felt like there were little side “stories” within the main story, which I liked.

…and the spice, oh my lanta, the spice! This book was NOT let down!

I will definitely be recommending this book to friends and family in the future. Small town, strong female character, the ugliness of healing, falling in love and spice?! Sign me up any day.

This was such a great read and Ian and Emery’s connection is like no other! The second chance romance flowed beautifully between them and the way Jenna captured Emery’s emotional hurdles after returning back to her hometown was amazing. This book was skillfully crafted in regards to speaking on themes such as healing and grief. Ian’s support of Emery was captivating and he understands her in ways that no one else could. Overall, this book tugged on my heartstrings with the amount of emotion running through it and I can’t wait to see what’s up Jenna’s sleeve for the next book!

This small town romance has a lot of heart and steam!
Emery comes back for her best friend’s wedding and has to face her past. Grief from losing her parents and the pull she still has to Ian. Ian was the right guy at the wrong time, but he wants to keep Emery this time.

I really liked Ian and he was a soft Dom for sure! He wanted to break down her walls. It took a lot of self realization, but their love was able to grow.

I really liked how the ending of this book was not rushed, it felt like there was real resolution and build up to the conclusion ❤️ I can’t wait to read about the next couples in this series! I can already guess a few 👀

If I could pick a man for myself other than my husband, hands down, it would Ian. The way he unconditionally loves Emery is so beautiful and pure, and my heart was so full reading their love story. If you love a second chance love story with no third act breakup that is so tragic and beautiful, you NEED to read this story. I’m a new and forever fan of Jenna Lockwood now.

The first book in the charming Beechwood Falls series, Admittedly Yours, brings an emotional and heartfelt romance set against the backdrop of a cozy small town, where everyone knows your name—and your past. Battling the ghosts of a past that neither have forgotten, the dynamic between the MCs as they navigate their friends’ wedding and the push and pulls of their attraction is incredibly well endowed in this story.

Despite Ian and Emery both grappling with personal pain, grief, the differences in their lives, they help each other heal and their bond deepens to reveal layers of vulnerability that only bring them closer.
Admittedly Yours is a moving romance that tackles friendship, grief, loss, and second chances in a heartfelt, beautifully written way.

Emery has spent the last five years shutting herself off from everyone and everything she once loved. After enduring heartbreaking losses and past traumas, she fled her hometown to focus on work and avoid the pain of her past. But when one of her best friends gets married, Emery is forced to return to Beechwood Falls—a place filled with memories she’d rather leave behind.

Coming home is the last thing she wants, especially when it means running into Ian. The one person who truly saw her, who understood the depth of her grief, is determined to make her stay. Ian has always been patient and steady, but now, he’s ready to fight for Emery and the future he knows they could have together.

From the moment they reconnect, the chemistry between them is undeniable, just as strong as it was years ago. But Emery’s walls are as high as ever, and Ian has his work cut out for him. He pushes her to face the emotions she’s buried deep, forcing her to confront the grief and guilt she’s carried for so long. Slowly, her defenses start to crack, and their relationship begins to grow in the most beautiful, healing way.

Grief is a central theme of this story, and the way it’s woven into the plot is nothing short of brilliant. Jenna captures the rawness of loss—the ups, the downs, and the way it shapes every part of your life—with stunning realism. Emery’s journey to forgiveness and self-acceptance is heartbreaking yet uplifting, and Ian’s unwavering support is the perfect counterbalance.

The forced proximity trope shines in this story, as Ian takes on renovations at Emery’s aunt’s house, keeping them in each other’s orbit. Ian’s nickname for Emery, Daisy Girl, had me swooning every time, and his fiery passion—both in his words and actions—brought some seriously steamy moments (that bathroom scene!).

What truly melted my heart, though, was Ian’s relationship with his niece. His gentle, nurturing side added so much depth to his character, making him impossible not to love.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster in the best way. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love with Emery and Ian’s story. Jenna’s ability to write characters who feel so real and relatable is unmatched. I can’t wait to see what she brings us next, but for now, Daisy Girl and Ian’s love story will stay with me.

I loved this book so much! Emery is returning to her hometown for her best friends wedding. She hasn't been back in 5 years, she left soon after her parents died in a car accident. Not only did she leave her small town and the memory of her parents, she also left Ian. Emery and Ian became friends who bonded over the loss of a parent, they got really close but the problem with that was Ian was the boyfriend of Emery's best friend. When they almost crossed the line, Emery decided she would be better off leaving town. Now she is back to be the maid of honor in her best friend's wedding and Ian is the best man. Her efforts to avoid him are not going well and that connection they felt at 18 is still there 5 years later.

I really saw myself in Emery, I lost my mom when I was 18 and a lot of what she goes through are some of the same things I went through. I also made some bad decisions and avoided dealing with my grief in a positive way. I think it might be why I loved this book so much. Emery had built some very high, very thick walls around her heart. She wouldn't even let her friends in and did not confide in them. Ian was the only one who could scale those walls. This is a perfect book of right guy wrong time. These two were just destined to be together. Ian was so patient and kind with Emery, even when she would break his heart. I immediately fell in love with his character. He forced her to face her past and her demons and she resisted at every turn. Ian just wanted to love her, have a future with her, and be her person. He just quietly did that through the whole book.

Now this book deals with heavy topics to be sure, but it is balanced by some fun moments and some excellent spice! Ian is sweet and kind, but behind closed doors he is demanding 🥵🔥. This book was a bit of a slow burn but when that spice hits it really hits! Definitely worth the wait!

There is also a fun cameo from Josie from Fate in Fiction in this book which I also loved.

I am so excited to see where Jenna takes this series, I think she dropped some crumbs as to where we are going and I can't wait (like a small town single dad?!?!?!).

I love this book so much!! Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down! I was truly invested in the story and the characters. Please do check the authors notes for triggers. This book does talk about grief.

Small town romance, friends to lovers, best friends ex, hurt/comfort,soft Dom, rekindling attraction, kinda second chances. Dual pov.

I love Ian and Emery. Both have something in common that bound them together. They were friends who they were able to talk to each other about everything. Especially the pain of losing someone close to them. Friends since they were kids. They needed each other for comfort.

Emery left 5 years ago and wanted to put everything that hurt her locked away and feeling something for someone she knew she couldn’t act on back then. She returned to be there for her friends wedding. So many consist reminders of the pain in her past. Ian is constantly bumping into her and she just wanting to stay away.

Ian was truly saddened by Emery’s sudden departure of their town 5 years ago. He had no idea that she was leaving and it was so hard for him. Seeing him struggle with his feelings for her and wanting to help her come terms with her trauma when she returned. I love how patient he was with her and how he continued to help push her.

My heart aches for these two. This book truly shows how different everyone is with grief. Some are able to face it and work on living their live. Some lock all of it away and don’t want to revisit ever again unless forced.

I just love these two together. He helps bring the best in her, and she makes me truly happy. They bring out the best of each other and she also pushes him to. The banter, the chemistry between the two of them is amazing.

Love the friendships between Emery and her girl friends! They tell it like it is but also are so supporting. I do wish there was so honestly in the past, could have saved some heart break but I truly do understand why though!

I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in this series in the future!

Emery and Ian - where do I start?

I knew from the beginning this story would be a whirlwind. Emery has deeply rooted trauma that's gone unmanaged for many years, and swoon Ian who has been hopelessly in love with her for just as many years to help her come through this hurdle in her life.

Emery's explanation for leaving Beachwood Falls those years ago is heartbreaking. Feeling a deep guilt for what happened to her parents, and an unfaithful friend because she developed feelings for the one boy who helped her to see her value and put things into perspective.

I love how Ian has been patient and meticulous in helping Emery through her visit home to Beachwood Falls to reconnect with her best friend for her wedding. In the process, we get to see Emery grow through her grief (not without pushback) but to later fight for herself and what she wants in her life.

At no fault of her own, Emery tries her hardest to avoid any relationships, for fear of the abandonment or heartbreak. I love how we see her slowly convince herself (with Ian's support) that she is deserving, and has impact for many people around her.

I loved the sideline story about Sophie, and her mom who isn't super implicated but Uncle Ian is a stable and supportive person for her. I hope to see some of this storyline integrated into future books of the series even though Ian and Emery won't be the lead characters 🙈

There were many characters to get to know throughout this story, which had me a bit confused for a part of the way, but let's just say that I loved Aunt Quinn's role - though we see her in a more serious light, her wit shined through, and I found her to be quite funny.

The HEA moved quickly once Emery realized she needed to take control of her feelings. I loved the closing (pre-epilogue) of how she didn't choose the latter of her career vs. relationship, but she did what needed to be done to have the best of both worlds.

Thanks to Jenna and her team for the ARC in exchange of an honest review!

I am going to try this as spoiler free as possible, as this book was a heavy read. Please make sure you read the authors note to make sure you will not be triggered.

Emery is a girl who has had to deal with many traumas in her life. She closed herself off from the pain and armored herself with as many walls as she could to protect her heart from the pain. Emery has spent years of her life running from the pain and having the "life happens" mentality. Until she had to go home and face everything she was running from. The journey Jenna takes us on with her character is such a beautiful and healing one. We are able to face everything right along with her. You can feel Emery's emotions and anxieties coming off the page as she is healing. You can also feel her reluctance to heal, as well. Once she has a taste of the way things could be, she is all in and wants to do the hard work.

Ian, the man who I have claimed as mine since the teaser posts, is such a patient man. I can not emphasize patient enough. When it comes to Emery, Ian has always been able to connect with her in a way no one else was. She finds herself telling him things she wouldn't normally tell anyone. He doesn't push her when he knows she is shutting down. He let's her come to him. Then he rewards her when she does actually let down a wall and let him in, and rewards her in the best way possible. Their connection comes off the page, even at the first sassy remark that catches him off guard.

The spice in this book is also so spicy. Jenna can WRITE a damn fine spice scene that leaves you blushing hard, swooning, and melting all in a couple of sentences.

This story is about healing, grieving, and new beginnings. It is a story about how letting love in can help guide you to be the best version of yourself. It is a story of growth most of all. This story soothed apart of my soul that I did not know existed. I am so excited for the rest of this series!

Thank you Jenna Lockwood for this ARC! Happy release day!!
This was such a DEEEEEEP (If you read that in @fantasyfangirlspod Nicole’s voice, can we be friends?) emotional read. Some moments hit a little close to home making it a little more difficult to get through the story. BUT I very much enjoyed this story!!

Emery Davis is STRUGGLING to heal and move on after her parent’s passed away. Despite her friends and family pushing her to open up and work towards healing, her coping mechanisms are detrimental to say the least. Ian Wells was in absolute love with Emery before she disappeared. Now that she’s back, he still wants her but knows, unless she faces her past, she will destroy the both of them.

A small-town romance, friends to lovers, best friend’s ex, (the rest of them on the photo) that was just a fantastic, trauma filled romance. I very much loved how Emery’s friends and family didn’t give up on her despite her consistently pushing them away. Or how Ian continually showed her he would be there for her, proving he still knew her better than anyone even with the years in between from the last time they saw each other.

It did feel a little back and forth with when she was willing to open up to revert right back to her toxic coping mechanisms. (I acknowledge that not everyone heals the same, but I also had a hard time connecting with her bc of how many times she went back to hurt those around her to keep them at a distance) It made my heart hurt when she kept pushing her girlfriends away (I would absolutely DIE if my best friends didn’t feel like they couldn’t talk to me) and every time she knew right where to hit to make it hurt the most. Just hitting me in the feels…

I really REALLY hope we get more on the rest of the friend groups’ stories in the future!!

Thanks to The Author Agency for the eARC.

Admittedly for Me by Jenna Lockwood

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(0-5)
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (0-5)

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 Small-town contemporary romance in Beachwood Falls, South Carolina. Take me to The Painted Pony.
🤩 Best friend’s ex-boyfriend. Emery is an award-winning chef, and Ian is a business owner and carpenter.
🤩 Wedding fun and shared bachelor/bachelorette party planning duties.
🤩 This book had me in tears a whole lot of the time. It’s heavy, heart-wrenching, and has so much real, hard history.
🤩 But, the healing is so beautiful with loving friendships and therapy representation.
🤩 So captivating, that need to know the history, like you can’t stop reading until you know.
🤩 That longing for the MCs to be together, like so much longing that you have to binge read it because the HEA is necessary before going on with life.
🤩 How much Ian and Emery need each other, the emotional connection between them and the physical desire they have for each other.
🤩 Ian is total book boyfriend material—how he cares for Emery and treads gently with her, giving her a balance of what she both needs and wants.
🤩 The physical pining is hot.
🤩 The steamy, bossy, mildly BDSM yet intimate interactions are so hot.
🤩 Cooking and also frosted cupcakes.
🤩 Ian and Emery have some good banter and flirting.
🤩 Fun side characters who give some comic relief.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 This book had me in tears a whole lot of the time. It’s heavy, heart-wrenching, and has so much hard history. Second chance does this to me sometimes, but it might have been too heavy because I was just so sad for so much of the book. The sorrow and sadness left me upset with a couple of the characters for causing increased (maybe unnecessarily) hurt for Emery.
💫 I would have loved a steamy bistro steam to fully heal my heart and celebrate the HEA.
💫 Who else gets a Beachwood Falls story?

I adore these two, ugh! Their chemistry is perfect! I had a lot of emotions while reading this story. Ian is the ideal perfect guy; he was incredibly patient and kind to Emery, even after she abruptly left without saying goodbye for years. MMC Ian has grown to be one of my favorites. As for Emery I had felt for her as she was scared to feel after all that happened but she definitely handled things very poorly and selfishly. Ian 100% did not deserve that. The way Emery gradually dropped her guard and allowed Ian in though was everything. I was happy they finally got their HEA. Add this to your TBR!!

DNF at 84% ..
I really tried to finish this book but I just couldn’t. The 2 stars are for some of the cute things Ian said and the spice. I didn’t like the FMC at all. She was frustrating and exhausting.
Her “I’m fine/I don’t want to deal with my feelings/I don’t need to heal/I don’t care how that I spiral and how it affects those around me” attitude was so baffling to me.
She loved throwing around the “I can take care of myself” line, but got sloppy drunk and sometimes black out drunk, put herself in harms way, slept around, didn’t have a care in the world, and just didn’t move smart at all.
She used sex as a way to avoid her issues. At 70% She was still acting like she liked Ian and wanted more with him one minute, then running or pushing him away the next. She should’ve just left him alone because she knew how he felt about her. He constantly expressed it. Ian realized her problem(s) but still enabled her.
80% in she finally acknowledges that she needs help, but she still try’s to run. When she goes to tell Ian goodbye, she’s breaks down and what does she do?? Tries to initiate sex AGAIN! He denies her and tells her she can’t use him for sex as an avoidance tactic, and this girl literally said “fuck, what am I supposed to do know” Like what do you actually mean?! Then he takes her home and STILL sleeps with her anyway smh. I DNF’d at that point.
Also ..when Ian denied her and they are talking about how she sleeps around to avoid dealing with her feelings and she says “so many men have touched me” .. that was the strangest thing I’ve heard lol. This is the man who loves you and wants to be with you and the man you’re fighting your feelings for. I couldn’t imagine someone saying that in real like.

My favorite quote from Ian.. “I love you Emery. I’m here to love you until I physically can’t. Then, my soul will wait for you in the next life”

Emery Davis is returning to a place she had hoped she'd never have to return too, but when her best friend called and asked her to be her maid of honor she just couldn't say no. She is going to be facing people she left behind and possibly hurt with her departure and she isn't so sure how they are going to take her reappearance...it could be a disaster or the perfect reunion?

Admittedly For Me is an emotional and heartfelt page-turner, a story that will captivate from beginning to end. As we follow Emery on her journey back home we learn that our heroine has had a very rough life, one that has left her weary of getting attached to anyone for fear of losing them, the grief she carries from her many losses has a stranglehold on her. She may have ran five years ago to escape her life, but it followed her and it's what has kept her away from her hometown. The thought of facing her past is unnerving and seems impossible to survive, but this time she will have help. She just has to be willing to except it...

This story came with lots of surprises, I knew it was going to be an emotional one after reading the synopsis, but nothing could have prepared me for the emotional punch it packed. It's heroine had been dealt losses no one should have endure, but little by little she found a way to overcome her past and find the happiness she deserved. I admired her strength and personal growth throughout the story. It was a beautifully penned journey that left in indelible mark... the best kind of story in my opinion.

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
