Rita Bradshaw was born on 1949 in Northampton, England, where she was educated as a good Christian. She met Clive, her husband, at the age of 16 andnow the magic is still there. They have three lovely children, Cara, Faye, and Benjamin, and have always had a menagerie of animals in the house, which at the present is confined to two endearing and very comical dogs who would make a great double act on TV! The children, friends, and pets all keep the house buzzing and the food cupboards empty but Helen wouldn't have it any other way. She still lives today in Northampton with her family. Although having enjoyed some wonderful holidays abroad she has never been tempted to live anywhere else, although she rather likes the idea of a holiday home close to the sea one day.
Being a committed Christian and fervent animal lover she finds spare time is always at a premium, but long walks in the countryside with her husband and dogs, meals out followed by the cinema or theatre, reading, swimming, and having friends over for dinner are all fitted in somehow. She also enjoys sitting in her wonderfully therapeutic, rambling old garden in the sun with a glass of red wine, (under the guise of resting while thinking of course!)
For years, she was a secretary. She began writing in 1990 as she approached that milestone of a birthday 40! She realized her two teenage ambitions (writing a novel and learning to drive) had been lost amid babies and hectic family life, so set about resurrecting them.
Her first novel was for Mills and Boon and was accepted after one rewrite in 1992 as Helen Brooks, and she passed her driving test (the former was a joy and the latter an unmitigated nightmare!) She has written 50 novels as well as several sagas as Rita Bradshaw.
Since becoming a full-time writer she has found her occupation one of pure joy and often surprised when her characters develop a mind of their own but she loves exploring what makes people tick and finds the old adage "truth is stranger than fiction" to be absolutely true. She would love to hear from any readers care of Mills & Boon.
I love all books i have ever read by Helen Brooks and have even found some of them to be my all time favourites. Her heroes Blade Forbes (Lovers Not Friends) and Zeke Buchanan (A Whirlwind Marriage) have forever changed my heart and on this list i also welcome Kane Steel who was so sexy and male without having to be unnecessary cruel or arrogant in"Web of Darkness" which is another lovely Harlequin Romance about the determined Janie Gordon who accuses the menacing rich tycoon Kane Steel of murdering her father and slaps his face in front of half the world.
I love how her fate is sealed the minute she give in to her instincts of humiliating Kane in front of all those reporters.Did she expect his murderous fury?Yes.But did she expect him to fall in love with her immediately and to make her hate turn into love?Ehh no.Heroines never see that coming! That`s something i find so incredibly entertaining.Janie and Kane both get under each other`s skin and both manage to capture each other`s hearts. The scene where Kane switches the sick Janie away from her home into his mansion was so romantic to read about and how they together spent the remaining christmas week with each other and his family!
A young woman finally has the opportunity to face down the business adversary that ruthlessly destroyed and killed her father two years ago. She walks into a press conference and publicly defames him. The hero chases after her, trying to get to the bottom of this public humiliation.
I enjoyed this story quite a bit. The characters and the situation were very real. It was obvious, from the start that the hero was head over heels for the heroine and willing to fight to earn her love. As is typical of HB, the hero was very well written and had depth of character. I found I was more intrigued with the story than the romance as I set out to figure out how such a decent man ends up in the middle of such a shady deal.
This one kept me turning those pages as he sets out to overcome the most difficult obstacle in his life, getting a woman who despises him to love him.
Such an enjoyable HP. Heroine insults hero and slaps him because his company and in her mind him, destroyed her father and led to his death. The hero is shocked and angry at her accusations and tells her, he will find out the truth. She tells him she doesn't care, nothing will bring her father back. He keeps coming back, first with money and then whisks her away when she is sick, refusing to let her go. He had fallen in love with her so madly but knew he had mountains to climb to be with her. I also felt the culprit was fairly obvious.
This book is for everyone who likes a nice, sweet H.
The h slaps him in his face in public, she calls him a murderer, she calls him disgusting, she lashes out at him, she says she hates him, she is always angry.
He on the other hand is always nice, he takes care of her when she is sick, he says the sweetest things to her, he always tries to protect her, he carries her to the moon and back.
In my opinion he is too tame. He didn’t show that raw, vibrant sexual desire for her. He says the right things to the h like “I could eat you alive”, but he doesn act on it.
They only kiss a couple of times with their clothes on. They don’t have sex or anything like it. It was a bit dull in that department.
But nevertheless, it was well written and a good story. So 4 stars.
A solid Helen Brooks effort. Some may feel that the h fights what is clearly a good thing too long, but near the end of the book we have a reminder of exactly why she hated the H, and it's justified.
He pursues her like an apex predator who has read a book on human courtship. Even the gentlest of actions has a relentlessness about it.
Highly enjoyable and refreshing. It wasn't the typical formulaic plot of girl meets boy, boy isn't good enough, boy transforms, girl changes her mind and they get married. It took a long time for the female lead character to open up to a relationship with the hero. I love how she learned about him through his interactions with his family. It made it more realistic.
This was ok. The h was annoying in her anger toward the H. He did enough good things to give her cause to pause and think before she jumped to worst conclusions. She seemed immature.
Ohhh all the tropes I like! Bulldozer H who pursues the h hard, he cares for her when she's sick, craaaaazy OW, a lil bit of Christmas, and some cats. The most perfect thing to read snuggled up in autumn.

This wasn't bad and started out like something from a TV drama/romance movie. (What do you call those, a Romdrama?) You just know it'll take the fiery h a long time to cool down and see things from a different perspective (with a little help from the H's family). At times you want to shake her and say, "Enough already!! Can't you tell the guy's crazy about you???" Still, it's entertaining.
