A very superficial picture book bio. i learnt very little about Verdi's musical thinking or how his audiences understood him. Can anyone recommend something better on Verdi?

An easy read. Provides a basic outline of Verdi's life, but very Wechsberg takes a very subjective, defensive, and often superficial, approach.
