Another Great Book

Another great book by this author. I’m no literary critic by any means. I just love reading Westerns and have read tons of them. I write very few reviews and only for the books I truly enjoy. This was one of those and an excellent read. I have now read several books by this author and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I will read more of them.

Good book. About two identical twins who are separated when their parents are killed in an Indian attack. One and his sister are rescued by passing calvary. While the other is found and adopted by a Sioux warrior. Year later his grandfather tried to find him.

It would have been a good read but for the writing style of the Author. I just could not get into this style of writing. It also took too long for them to find Lone Eagle, the missing twin. A sequel would be nice with Lone Eagle and Elizabeth but not in this particular writing style.

Entertaining

The story is full of surprulises, battles, vivid depictions of the scenery while telling the story of the Lane family lost 1 of the twins on the trail to California only to find he lives as a feared warrior. There is a little romance as well.

Great Author.

Love this story and could not put the book down. Just lately started reading Alfred Dennis books and like the fact that they is less violence than most of the books I read.

Couldn’t even finish the book!

I read the first 76 pages of this book and had to stop. Lack of forward movement, dull characters and the changing of grammar tenses was too much for me. After reading the exceptional Crow Killer series this was a disappointing disaster.

Great Adventure Classic

Another great Alfred Dennis’s action novel. A real page turner. Lots of action and family style romance. I highly recommend this Classic Western to those that are interested in learning about the lives of American Indians .

William and Phillip Lane, identical twins were separated when the train wagon they were travelling in was attacked by Sioux warriors. William and his sister Virginia were found and rescued by a passing army patrol but Phillip, along with their parents went missing that night and eventually presumed to be dead. William and Virginia grew up with their grandparents accepting the fact that they may never see their parents or Phillip ever again. But when years later William’s friend Preston returns from the Fort Laramie Treaty Council claiming that he was pretty sure that the warrior names Lone Eagle was in fact Phillip, they do not know what to believe. Preston, almost a family member to the Lane family convinces them finally and they take on a journey to find the brother/grandson they thought they had lost years ago. Where will the journey take them and will they find Phillip at all?

I have to say that I have always wanted to read about the original tribes of the west. This book seemed to promise to be a bit of a cultural experience in that matter.

I absolutely loved the setting and the characters in the novel. While I personally could have done with a bit more details about the settings, the details that the author has provided works well enough in the book. There were a myriad of characters and each played their part well enough. I particularly liked the character of Virginia who showed hope the moment Preston told the family about the possibility of Phillip being alive. While Horatio and William were being cautious, and rightfully so, Virginia immediately latched on to the hope of finding her long lost brother. Then over the tenuous journey they took, Virginia really pushed on and stood out from rest of the pack. I also enjoyed how the plot was played out and could not have asked for a better ending.

However, I found it difficult to get into the story completely because of the author’s unorthodox usage of tense. I couldn’t really get into the rhythm because of the abrupt change in it at places. Other than that, this is a wonderful story that I enjoyed reading.

What a wonderful read

I very much enjoyed this book. The writing was good and kept the reader engaged throughout the entire book. It was hard to put it down. Definitely read and put yourself into the times of the west when white and red men were engaging in a mixing of cultures with respect of each other. It is too bad that the mutual respect found in this book of characters didn't extend further into society in real life then. Read and enjoy

I loved this book! I like cowboys and Indian books. Can't say there is any historical value, but definitely has a possibility for a sequal! Fiancee has too choose between twins, one raised as an indian.
