This book has two main parts, Part 3: The Renaissance, Mannerism and the Baroque and Part 4: The Modern World. A very big book with numerous beautiful illustrations of art work.
Horst Waldemar Janson, who published as H. W. Janson, was a Russian-American scholar of art history best known for his History of Art, which was first published in 1962 and has sold more than two million copies in fifteen languages.
Textbook assigned for class. Okay, but fairly boring reading. Obviously a budget version in spite of its expensive cover price since photo illustrations were not sharp nor color quality up to par.
I would have liked it if they'd included pronunciation keys for artists names, art works, and place names. Seriously, how can they expect to teach "culture" without telling students how to pronounce what they are talking about?!? (My teacher didn't seem to know either.)
