i'm sorry but if you turn my teenage favorite books into graphic novels i am going to read them.
the ending feels a lot more abrupt in this version, to the extent that i ignored where it said "the end" and "volume 4/4" in the ebook and ignored where it says "the heartwarming final installment" in the synopsis and clicked on the series title to try to add the 5th volume to my tbr.
fangirl is my comfort book in some ways, but it's also my problematic fav: i don't like the simon snow parts, or the part where she submits fanfiction as an assignment, or the unresolved familial issues (more so here).
i love the anxiety representation (so #me) and the yearning (best part of romances).
neither to be found in here, so this was meh for me!
bottom line: i'll always have a soft spot for the original...but not for the adaptations.

It’s been 10 years since I first read Fangirl back in 2014. Since then I’ve reread the book four or maybe five times, and this manga series has meant so much to me. To be able to relive this story again and again is so comforting. Cath is one of my most relatable characters of all time, and I adore this story with my whole heart. Being in Cath’s head feels like being in my own head, and there’s very few characters I can say that about. I love this manga series and I hope someday soon to reread this entire series again and again the way I have with the physical book 🥹💖

Reading any version of Fangirl is like a giant and warm hug. I love this manga series adaptation so much: it captured the novel almost exactly as I saw it in my head. I'm sad it's over but glad all 4 books are out so I can reread in whole whenever my heart desires.

I loved the fourth and final installment of the 'Fangirl' manga. This is such a comfort read and it was great to re-read this story in a different way. I loved the art and watching the book come to life in this way.

Aún recuerdo cómo el libro de Fangirl me molestó en muchas maneras, nunca supe porqué ñ, no se por el desagrado que le tengo a Rainbow Rowell o por lo problemático que es, pero siempre ha sido un libro que me causa conflicto.
El manga por otra parte es superior, la historia se siente más ligera y no hay complicaciones al leerlo, aunque quizá ese final fue algo abrupto, creo que hubieron mejores maneras de desarrollar el final del libro que solo acortarlo así de rápido, eso me sacó un poco de la lectura y me dejó desconcertada.
En parte me agrada la implementación de Simon Snow entre el libro pero a la vez llega a ser molesto, siempre me confundía con esas partes y era demasiado obvio que era una calca de Harry Potter, en el manga se siente más fantástico porque las ilustraciones le dan el toque, los efectos de magia y la situaciones se presentan casi siempre como una introducción más detallada sobre los gustos de Cat y su desarrollo con ellos.
No tengo tanto que agregar pues es un manga y normalmente no tengo opciones largas sobre ellos, pero me agradó más que la primera vez que lo leí, el manga me hizo apreciarla como es y me divertí mucho, las ilustraciones fueron tan divinas y desearía que más libros fueran adaptados a este estilo, así podría releerlos con más calma.

this story is the one i've reread the most, and yet i bawled my eyes out reading the final volume of this manga series. Cath's feelings and thoughts were so close to mine when i was a teenager, and i still feel very close to her in a lot of ways. It's like reading about a younger version of myself, knowing she ended up okay. It's like a hug to my past self.
Levi is, as always, a top character for me. He's pure sunshine and the drawings depicted that perfectly.
i just love this story and this world so much, it's still my comfort book, and the manga version did not disappoint.

27/09/2024: Dear future self, if you read this review a few years from now I want to ask you where life took you. This book is one that you keep coming back to, finding comfort in a character that is you down to a t. Reading this release after a sad week and being left with a heavy heart you read about one of your favorite-most romance stories out there. Of how someone was seen and listened to and wasn’t shamed for all the things that made her insecure. I want to know how things progressed from this very moment onward to a later date. Because I am Fangirl, just a much as you are Fangirl. This book is the rawest version of ourselves and it makes me hope for a love as beautiful and effortless as Cath’s and Levi’s — this is a warm hug in a pocket of time that is marked by my insecurities. Much like how Cath starts out at the novel, only to end here. This book is a reminder that loving something deeply and feeling emotions in a big way isn’t bad, it means you care. And that taking your time with things is perfectly okay. I hope it’s nice where you are and that you reread this manga and the book a million times over since now.

Don’t mind me. I’m only here to cry again. Fangirl is such a darling book for me, and the idea that it got a manga adaptation sent me to cloud nine. I love this with all my heart.

Я читала «Carry On» до того, как узнала о том, что оказывается есть нарисованная предыстория, и это было большой ошибкой. Не то чтобы в комиксах раскрывается много лора, но хотя бы становится понятна идея книги.
Кэт — первокурсница, которая приезжает в колледж вдали от своего родного дома и пытается справиться с поступающими проблемами. Она очень закрытая и застенчивая, не привыкла к новым знакомствам и вниманию к себе. Больше всего на свете ей нравится писать фанфики про Саймона Сноу, местного аналога Гарри Поттера, с сестрой-близнецом Рен и уходить с головой в их выдуманный мир.
У Кэт много неприятностей в жизни: сестра отдаляется и хочет социализироваться, отец остался один дома и едва ли может нормально функционировать из-за особенностей психики, преподавательница не одобряет фанфики в качестве семестровой работы, а про травму от ухода в их с Рен детстве матери и говорить нечего. Все это пожирает ее изнутри, и во многом Кэт очень понимаешь, и видишь в ней себя.
Все меняется с приходом Ливая в ее жизнь, и вот тут мое мнение об этой истории постоянно менялось. С одной стороны, авторка прописала его как очень милого, очень заботливого золотистого терьера, который приносит Кэт только хорошее, за исключением одного случая. С другой — это очевидная попытка вклеить персонажа с синдромом спасателя, который должен вытянуть Кэт из пучины неудач.
И у Ливая это получается, но мне временами как-то тошно смотреть на их парочку. Кэт погрязла в своих проблемах и поведении обиженного человека, а Ливай слишком отличается от нее. И этот троп про замкнутую девочку и компанейского парня уже порядком надоел. Из раза в раз он будет спасать ее, а потом Кэт столкнется с новыми трудностями от нерешенных ситуаций из прошлого. Плюс в комиксе очень уж часто мелькают моменты, когда она остро реагирует на сказанное и пытается убедить Ливая, что раз у нее есть близнец, то лучше бы ему встречаться ней.
Если не задумываться так глубоко, то комикс хороший. Рисовка супер, фикрайтерская жизнь показана более чем понятно, в какой-то степени можно найти себя в героине Кэт, если вам не больше двадцати. Мне понравилось, как страницы из «Carry On» описывали переживания Кэт. Поэтому я ставлю четыре звездочки и иду смотреть фанарты с Саймоном и Базом.

This is the fourth and final volume of the manga version of Fangirl.
I did really enjoy seeing this iconic book told this way. Although I didn’t love having the story split in four with each book releasing so far apart. But other than that the illustrations were great. And the story worked very nicely in this format.
