This book, y’all. I LOVED it! The tension and chemistry between our main characters was off the charts. Plus we have secret societies, elite boarding schools, chosen one princess who doesn’t know her true identity, and the “I was sent to kill you but fell in love” trope….what’s not to love?? And to make things even better…the assassin falls for his target before he even realizes she’s his target. We love a complicated relationship 🙌 def recommend this series for fans of TOG, Fourth Wing, and Star Wars. Loved it!

Ever since finishing book 1, Origin, I have been SO CURIOUS about the sequel because I was hoping we would get to see the fruit of Elzaria and Nexion’s sacrifice and indeed, that was the case. Book 2, Awaken, takes place not one, not ten, not fifty or one-hundred, but one thousand years after the events of book 1 (and if you read book 1, you know why this made me gasp out loud.) The protagonist is none other than secret miracle princess Elara, who doesn’t know she’s the long lost Empyrean princess—she doesn’t even know she is Empyrean, and what her parents had to do in order to insure her survival. One of the most important aspects of this story is seeing Elara discovering and struggling to accept this reality and what it means for her and the faith of the world—heck, the galaxy.
Awaken feels very different from Origin. Where Origin you were living and breathing a completely made up, futuristic world, here we are in a world that feels very familiar. It’s Earth, albeit with some terms and things that don’t really belong to our world, but to a version of it in which there had been Empyrean settlers a thousand years prior. There’s an upper class in society that descends from the Empyrean themselves with a whole set of telekinetic powers and influence, for instance, and the college called EmpyrX Institute of Techonlogical and Innovation and Enterprise (known also as XIT), in which only the kids of these wealthy descendants enroll.
XIT is where Elara meets Finnian, a bad boy with a dark past of abuse, and sparks fly between the two from the first instant they meet. The banter is perfect, especially given how Elara tries to resist the attraction at first. What made them so fun and addicting was that they read like a college romance couple, but at the same time like star-crossed lovers from fantasy. Furthermore, they’re enemies to lovers without knowing they’re enemies. Finnian has no idea the girl he’s falling for is the very princess he’s hunting for his father, and Elara doesn’t know Finnian is the son of the very man who would see her dead. I was anticipating and dreading the moment they would find out, and I have to say it did not disappoint.
I truly enjoyed this read, and devoured it less than three days. I’m looking forward to the next one, hoping it’ll lead to Elara’s reunion with Elzaria and Nexion!

While being the second book in the All is Fair in Love and Galactic War series, if you happened to stumble into AWAKEN and read it without knowing anything about the first book, chances are you would still enjoy it, and afterwards you would pick up the first book to see where everything began. I do believe you need to read both books in order to continue the series, but this scenario works because Awaken picks up a thousand years after the end of book 1. It’s set in an urban fantasy version of our world, where there is the vast majority of the upper class formed by humans with special abilities who descend from the first Empyrean settlers…and a secret princess who has no knowledge of her heritage and of the dangerous man hunting her for the threat she poses to his power.
Perhaps it is the familiar setting of our world, the college setting, and the relatability of the character dynamics, but I feel like I enjoyed Awaken a little more than its predecessor. There was a refreshing mix of sci-fi, fantasy and contemporary that made this an unputdownable read.
What I loved most was the romance. Elara and Finnian are very interesting characters on their own, and together they have an immediate chemistry that simply makes sense. I liked the fact that Elara remains cautious of Finnian at first despite their immediate attraction, and that their relationship develops with each interaction until it blooms into feelings. What makes them special is the fact that they are unwittingly enemies, seeing as Finnian is the son of the man who is hunting down the lost Empyrean princess, and that Elara doesn’t know she is the long lost princess or let alone that she’s an Empyrean until later in the book. The anticipation of them finding out was almost as sweet as seeing them falling in love.
I am looking forward to the third book in the series, hoping it will lead to a much awaited reunion. If you know, you know.

I forget how much I enjoy sci-fi, better yet if it has a romance focus.. this urban fantasy is the perfect follow up to the first book Origin. Lovers of romance, lost princess, and enemies to lovers feel will devour this book!
I absolutely loved the setting of this book, takes place years and years after Origin. Set in a world like ours only with years advanced this story gives us Elara, a princess with no knowledge of her lineage. And Finnian, the son of the person hunting down the lost princess. The chemistry between the two was wonderful. I loved the school setting a long with the aspect of the long lost princess that will save the world.
The romance was everything in this book! I absolutely loved seeing finnian and elara fall for each other although there are obstacles. Elara’s character growth was outlined well especially with her coming to terms with her destiny. I cannot wait to see where the third book will take us!
Huge thanks to the author for sending me a copy. All opinions are my own.
This is the second book in a fantasy sci-fi romance series, so if you haven’t read book 1, Origin, watch out for spoilers below! This series has Enemies to lovers, a Complex world building, fated love and the Secret identity trope 👀
The second instalment of the saga follows the Empyrean Royal family to our planet ; this time instead of out there in the universe there are aliens among us. Finnian, son of the evil head of the Empyrinati Consortium, is sent to kill the princess that his father believes is on Earth to one day rule the entire universe. On the other hand, Elara, lived until her 18th birthday as a common girl but is truly a princess whose future is to bring peace to the universe. She begins her training as a skilled aircraft pilot and fighter at the academy, where Fin acts as Senior President . As soon Finnian & Elara meet their sexual attraction is undeniable and they feel a strong pull to one another.
Again my favorite element of this sequel is the lush world building, with hyper tech hideaways, spacecrafts and state of art weaponry and equipment . Although a new layer of political aspect is included, bringing the author’s point of view on the current global situation. Overall a great sequel with lots of action, steam, and an irresistible enemies to lovers vibe 😍
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review!
Jumping a thousand years ahead from “Origin,” the sequel “Awaken” didn’t just meet my high expectations—it blew them away. We’re introduced to Elara, the protagonist shrouded in mystery—unaware of her royal Empyrean lineage and the sacrifices her parents (from the book “Origin”) made for her to survive.
“Awaken” is a departure from its predecessor’s wholly futuristic setting, taking place on Earth in the present time. It features a society where the elite possess both telekinetic abilities and societal sway, epitomized by the exclusive EmpyrX Institute of Technological Innovation and Enterprise, or XIT.
At XIT Elara meets the quintessential wounded bad boy with a hidden agenda as tangled as his past and tries to fight her attraction for him, as does he for her. There’s a fabulous twist on the enemies to lovers trope in that they don’t know they are enemies for a good part of the book. The anticipation and revelations of the truth pays off big time.
This book reads like a college romance, but also like a romantic fantasy. It’s at least a 3 chili pepper read with a playful ice adventure. Their story is as explosive as it is inevitable, which makes it hard to put down.
I am so excited to show off the awesome sequel to Origin—this is Awaken, book two in the All is Fair in Love and Galactic War series!!
This is a romantic space fantasy with a badass heroine who has a secret identity, and plenty of enemies-to-lovers banter/tension/spice, and an academia setting! Literally so much freaking FUN!
What to Expect: —Fourth Wing Vibes —Touch her and 💀 —Royal Intrigue —Secret Societies —Forbidden Love —Lost Princess Trope
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.
Awesome story from Lori Lind. I have been so excited for this second book! Sass, drama, adventure, and even relatable as a college student! I loved this book! If you love Sarah J, Fourth Wing, or Star Wars you’ll more than likely fall in love!
