The Al Dente Diet was such a fun and quick read! If you're in the mood for a story that'll have you laughing and sitting in suspense, this is it. The FMC was my favorite – total badass vibes! As for the MMC? He's total cinnamon roll – sweet, charming, and totally irresistible. Whether you're a fan of fake dating or just craving a little spice in your reading life, this book is a must-read recommendation!

Well I want to start by saying Irene and J.L blew this one out the fucking ball park! It was brilliant. The storyline and characters where wonderful. It was packed with so much for a fast paced novella. It was funny, exciting, spicy and more. I laughed so much at this pair. Once I started I couldn't put it down, page after page was exciting and oh so good, I just couldn't get enough.. and that dedication was everything!!

Catarina is our sassy badass FMC, she works for her Italian mafia family as their hitwoman and she loves it. But don't underestimate her, she will easily pistol whip you aswell as slit your throat. She don't do relationships even if she wasn't in this line off work. But that's about to all change. And so she starts the story off with a bang.

Richard is our sexy, dirty talking MMC, one would say he had a boring life. Divorced, always working, never taking breaks, no excitement, no sparkle in his life. One day he's at lunch with his friend and they are chatting and the friend says he should go to Italy. He can't do that just up and leave even if he has holidays to cover it.

After he gets backs to his office he decides to look it up. After some back and forthing, he thinks fuck it. Gets everything in order and off he goes. After a hellish flight, he's glad he did it, he's enjoying himself. He enters a restaurant and finds the most beautiful spitfire he's ever seen. After their meal they make plans to meet up. Richards life is about to get very interesting. And his life he once knew would never be boring again. So much more happens in this book, but you need to find it out for yourself. It's so worth it though.

I absolutely loved these two, but wished there was more off it. There story ended to soon for me I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them. I highly recommend.

This book is a collab with J.L. Quick and Irene Bahrd, and folks, they have done it again. This was a super quick read and lots of fun. Fair warning: there is a LOT of spice in this book (Mom, stop reading this review now). Richard is precious, and watching him get bossed around by Cat is hysterical, especially as he quickly gains confidence around her and the roles start to shift. This is a mafia book, but it’s really lighthearted, so even if you aren’t into dark romance troupes, this book is still worth reading. Overall, if you want a quick read about a man determined to eat his way through Italy (or through an Italian), grab a copy of The Al Dente Diet, out on February 9th!
Summary:
Richard is a graphic designer from California who decides to visit Italy on a whim after his friend swears calories don’t count in Italy. During his trip, he dines at Catarina’s family restaurant, and when she invites him to join her for a date the next evening, he jumps at the chance. What he doesn’t know is that Catarina is an Italian hit woman, and he shows up for their date right as she’s finishing a job. The victim is a leader from a rival crime family and thinks that Cat and Richard are married and that Richard killed their leader for flirting with Cat. Richard and Cat are forced to keep up the marriage facade to make sure neither of them ends up sleeping with the fishies. What starts as a forced relationship to stay safe is now starting to feel more real. Will these two have what is takes to stay out of trouble? Or are they already in too deep?

I knew going into this novella i would enjoy it. I've read Unexpectedly Ruined by Irene, and it was funny & spicy, best of both worlds. With the darker elements added by J. L., it's even better. You know kinda like s3x, you have the great kind, then there's the "amazing, sweat dripping kind", that's what this novella is. Enough to keep you hot and bothered way past Valentines. You'll be giggling and craving pasta all while reading one handed. 😉😉

This was such a fun, spicy, slightly dark (it is a mafia romance after all) rom-com (sorry, er0t!c0m - also, much love for that descriptor there) which I could not put down, and was definitely having more than a few giggles reading.

Bahrd and Quick are fast becoming auto-read, auto-love authors to me. Their quick wit in their writing, the way they can tell such a great story in such a short format; I'm in love. Honestly, I'd never been a huge fan of novellas, but these two authors certainly make me change my mind about them.

Richard and Cat were such a fun couple. I loved the to-and-fro between them; their witty banter had me laughing out loud more than once. Cat is such a strong, bad-a$$ character and Richard is delightfully boring until she comes into his life. The tropes married perfectly with the storyline and definitely left me wanting more.

And I'm sorry, but the dedication (and the warnings page, too, really) had me in absolute stitches, which 100% sets the tone for the novella.

Cannot wait for more from these two, and I do hope they collab again soon!

I knew this was a short novel, but the way it started read like a real book, so I was hopefully it would be as fully-fleshed out as a full length novel. I was wrong. The author quickly started jumping to the bits she wanted in the story without writing about the journey it took to get to those bits, so it felt like a lot was left out of the book. I think the author may have done a better job had she taken the time to make this a full-length novel. Maybe the journey would have been in there.

I did find the female lead being the deadly, mafia member an interesting twist, but I did not like her or the male lead. Richard started off as a generic guy, but then went full Dom by the end of the book. The change did not make sense. Catarina was just annoying. I also hate when guys fall for a female character just because she is hot.

Also, I have said it once and I will say it again... Just because you really love having s*x with someone does not mean you are in love with them. That is lust. People really need to stop getting love and lust confused. There was nothing in this story that made them falling in love believable.

A quick spicy novella right in time for valentines day. The FMC is a straight badass and MMC is a sweetheart with some dirty mouth oh him that will have your toes curling 🥵. Richard went to Italy for vacation and ended up in a whole situation with Cat and pretending also became real for them. The book is full of spice, it will have u laughing as well, and that freaking DEDICATION couldn’t be more true 🤭.

JL Quick & Irene Bahrd did it again! You want a short, spicy novela where you can find a sexy and sweet as F… MC and a strong FMC this is your book! Both caracther are hot for each other but Cat doesn’t do relationship as she is a hit woman! Yeah that didn’t work out so well when she met Richard, he for sure drove her crazy with his mouth 😜 if u know what I mean.

I loved their dynamic, and the way they fell for each other. Super cute and adorable! Can’t wait for more from this two.

Catarina and Richard had allll the banter you would need. Catarina is that bish and takes crap from nobody. She’s a hit woman who is beautiful and sexy and uses that to her advantage.

Richard is a “vanilla flavored cinnamon roll” and is just in Verona to enjoy a vacation. He didn’t bargain for Catarina at all. Or a fake marriage. Or the mob life. But he is so gone for this woman. These two are such opposites, but it works out so amazingly.

I loved their hilarious moments with each other, and their spicy moments. This has mafia and dark elements (so check your trigger warnings), but Catarina’s jokes always lightened the mood. She had me cracking up!

I’ve read books by both of these authors, but Irene and J.L. hooking up to write a mafia rom-com novella is so perfect. I really enjoyed this one!

I knew from the dedication that I was going to enjoy this book, and it definitely didn't disappoint!
In a twist of mafia meets rom-com The Al Dente Diet blurred the lines perfectly with a female mafia hitwoman, Cat, and American tourist Richard, who is in Italy for the pasta and gets a whole lot more. It mixed danger, spice, and sass in a fast-paced and fun way.
The characterisation and development of them both together was fire; they had some amazing chemistry, and while Richard was good-looking, he wasn't what Cat originally looked for in a man, thinking him to be a 'vanilla-flavoured cinnamon roll' but close proximity, a fake marriage, and his growing confidence soon changed all of that. Richard wasn't looking for a woman, especially not one like Cat, but as soon as he spent that first moment eating pasta with her, he was a goner.
Side character involvement is minimal, but when they are involved, characters like Richard's best friend Stephen or Cat's Nonna bring some great humour and really help to make this fabulous story what it is.

The authors did a fantastic job of blending humor, romance, and suspense, keeping me hooked from start to finish. Okay, why the heck was this novella so stinking cute?!

The Al Dente Diet is a fast paced novella full of action, smut and so much humor. I found myself laughing at the witty banter between Cat and Richard. The poor man was sucked into the mafia world and he took it in stride! When a member of another mafia families ends up dead with the blame being placed on Richard, a plan of fake marriage is put in place to keep him safe. With him and Cat spending so much time together to make their fake marriage believable, they quickly fall for each other, enjoying more than just each other's company. I absolutely loved their dynamic. I loved the love they shared and how much they couldn't keep their hands off each other😏🥰

J.L. Quick and Irene Bahrd gave us a wonderful novella that is definitely worth a reread! I'm so grateful to the authors and Happily Booked PR for allowing me to read this book before the release!

Coming from a mafia family, Catarina has embraced her role in the family and acts as the enforcer. When Richard ends up being Cat’s alibi, he is pulled into this dangerous family, but instead of floundering he embraces it.s the attraction between Cat and Richard is off the charts, but Cat doesn’t do relationships of feelings. Will Richard be the one to change that?

I enjoyed this spicy novella from the very beginning and was pulled into this Italian mafia world. I really liked Cat and Richard, both together and separate. This is a very quick, exciting read that has the perfect amount of thrill and steam. If you are looking for something to devour quickly, but doesn’t skimp on the spice, this read is a good one for that! I look forward to reading more from both of these authors in the future.

Could not put it down! The banter between Catarina and Richard was my absolute favorite! A great quick read with all the spice and funny banter you could ask for. Not your typical RomCom or Dark Romance novella but I am here for it! Irene and J.L never cise to disappoint in any of their work! I couldn't get enough of Catarina's fiestiness and Richard's cinnamon roll attitude.
Richard took a vacation to eat his way through Italy but he found himself eating his way through a gorgeous itialian mafia princess instead and ibam here for it all! He may have the cinnamon attitude but he knows what he wants and gets just that with that filthy mouth of his!
Catarina know as the hit woman for her family finds herself in a bit of a predicament when she has to make the other mafia families believe her and Richard are married due to them all thinking he ended the life of another mafia member. Even though she tries her hardest just to pretend to hate Richard she melts for him by the end of it all!

The duo I didn’t know I needed - J.L Quick and Irene Bahrd! Al Dente Diet is such a fun, fast paced spicy, mafia romcom, I can’t wait for more!!

The witty banter and charged dynamic between Richard and Catriona was chefs kiss. They’re total opposites - Catriona is black cat energy and Richard is golden retriever. Their chemistry was amazing!

I’ve become such lovers of both authors work and have been working my way through their back lists because they crush it consistently.

I read this in one sitting. It was everything fun, cute, sassy, playful banter, some bomb a** $ex and a bada$$ woman to boot. Just the perfect little snack of all my favorite things 😋

This is an action packed fast paced read laced with lots of spice and banter to back it up. I was really impressed with the character progression throughout the length of the story. Meaning for as short as it is I wasn't feeling like it moved too fast or left anything important out. But MAN is the chemistry through the roof with these people. I love how this FMC takes NO sh*t from anyone man or woman alike. She's a true bad@ss and I love her for it!!! She tells him: I don't sleep with vanilla flavored cinnamon rolls 🤣🤣🤣

Super fast paced read, spicy as heck, lots of angtsy I hate you type scenes, he's the one getting drug into it. Loved it all!

What a great novella this was! It was the perfect length and such a fun story. I smiled a lot throughout this book and had fan myself to stop from blushing, those spicy scenes were spicy!

I kind of knew Richard was going to get himself into hot water, but I didn’t think it would start out the way it did, thinking about it now still makes me chuckle. What an absolutely unfortunate situation to find yourself in…but I mean, it worked out for him in the end!

Love a HEA and this was no exception. Catarina is kick-ass and I love that. Richard, at first, seemed like a fairly gentle type of guy but then… well…he’s a very different man in the bedroom!

This is a quick, easy read and a great book to get you from one book to the next.

The Al Dente Diet is a fun, spicy novella. Richard is a laid-back man who just wants to eat some yummy Italian carbs for four weeks. Instead, he finds himself in a fake marriage with Cat, a wild, sexy, hitwoman for her mafia family. The two of them have a love-hate chemistry that is perfection. This novella is filled with hilarious banter, action, and plenty of spice. There was not a dull moment in this book.

The last thing Richard was expecting when planning his trip to Italy was to get involved with a woman. He just wanted to eat his way through Italy while taking in the sights. What really happened completely changed his life. The twists and turns this novella takes are clear, concise and steamy. Although his experiences were not always great – the bathroom, the vespa ride, and the museum scenes, they brought him closer to his destiny.
Richard is used to going to work and not taking time for himself. He is divorced and not in a place where he is looking for a relationship. Cat is a hitwoman, strong, sassy, and bossy. She doesn’t do relationships. She is a mafia princess that doesn’t like to share. This is an opposites attract, fake marriage rom com. If you like a strong FMC, mafia romance, with lots of spice you need to read this!

After reading Irene Bahrd’s “Love at all Cost” series, I kinda fell in love with her unhinged men, strong women, and hilarious parody-style of writing. Picking up this mafia romance and adding J.L. Quick to the mix and everything has leveled up. This novella starts off with a bang (literally 😉) and quickly dives into madness. Richard/Dick is such a lovable doofus at times and Catarina/Cat is such a clever yet grumpy assassin. If you’re looking for a fun, ri-dick-ulous, mafia romance then this should be your next read.

Another unhinged yet totally lovable and fun read: from the iconic thirsty dedication, to the hilarious content warnings, this book is for anyone looking for a spicy, fun, mafia age-gap romance for Valentine’s Day or Super Bowl weekend.

Although his experiences were not always great – the bathroom, the vespa ride, and the museum scenes, they brought him closer to his destiny.
Richard is used to going to work and not taking time for himself. He is divorced and not in a place where he is looking for a relationship. Cat is a hitwoman, strong, sassy, and bossy. She doesn’t do relationships. She is a mafia princess that doesn’t like to share. This is an opposites attract, fake marriage rom com. If you like a strong FMC, mafia romance, with lots of spice you need to read this!

I loved this mafia romance for one, i never read mafia romances that the women is the hitman it’s always the men do i loved that, and this being like a fake marriage and then turning into a love story by the end?! I mean please. 😮‍💨 this book was filled with SPICE, but the thing i loved the most was that even though its was dirty it was still action packed, and there was still a plot.

Honestly this was such a good short read. And i would LOVEEE more of their story but i suppose this will have to do😅 i of course gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because i wanted more, but it was a novella after all!
