Kōsuke Fujishima (藤島康介, born July 7, 1964) is a Japanese manga artist.

Born in Chiba, Japan, he first came to public attention as an editor of Puff magazine, his first job after completing high school. Fujishima originally intended to be a draftsman, but took the editorial role after failing to get a drafting apprenticeship. He later became assistant to manga artist Tatsuya Egawa in the production of the Making Be Free! manga, and in 1986 began his first original manga series You're Under Arrest. His second manga series Oh My Goddess!, also translated as Ah! My Goddess, is extremely popular and has made Fujishima a household name in Japan. In addition, he is also well known as the character designer for several games in the Tales RPG video game series and Sakura Wars.

He is known for his love of automobiles and motorcycles, and several of his series and their characters reflect this, such as in éX-Driver and Oh My Goddess!.

Beautiful and introspective.

World: The art is sublime, just wait until you get to the phantom racer and you see Bell and Kei on the bike and tell me that art is not simply gorgeous. The world building is interesting, there is a lot of little quirky status quo changes that really drive the story, with the room and the size and the job and the racer, all these little pieces give character to the world.

Story: The stories here are nice, they range from the really cool, with the bikes, to the really beautiful, with the whale. Small little tender moments that are made fantastical because of the art and the world building. Small little emotions that come shining through. Beautiful.

Characters: Small little intimate wonderful character moments here that make this series so good. It’s nothing big and bold, it’s the quiet tiny emotions that make you appreciate being alive and seeing the world in a different perspective.

Pretty amazing, but I’m biased.

Onward to the next book!

As beautiful as the art is, this one dipped a little in the quality of story telling for me. I guess with the last two volumes being so plot heavy, they decided to lighten it up in this one and do some other things with the minor characters. While the stories are fun, for sure, this is definitely not the most impressive set of stories in the series. Still, it's definitely a necessary thing for future volumes.

This is one of those volumes which seems a bit bland but then features a moment which is very heartfelt and honest and you can't help but find it sticking with you later on. It features Keiichi meeting with a supernatural being and them bonding over Matthew Sweet (an artist I became aware of thanks to this manga and will makes me want to listen to more of his work). Its emotional and leaves the audience with a smile on their face.

The Phantom Racer is the collective title of the stories in this volume. This particular version is the larger size one and is done in the normal American style of stories, front to back, unlike the more normal Oh, My Goddess volumes which are done in the Japanese style, reading from back to front covers.

Belldandy gets asked for help by a girl that saw a ghost motorcycle. Other bikers verify the story of a ghost on a particular part of the road. Megumi decides she has to race it, having just obtained a very fast motorcycle. The ghost cycle proves faster than hers, although it almost leads her to her death.

Keiichi and Belldandy arrive on the new motorcycle. As they race the spirit bike, the spirit bike is thinking to itself. They end up finding out just what the spirit is and who it belongs to. It's a very nice, very touching story.

The next part of the volume deals with Dr. Moreau. Belldandy and Keiichi end up helping a mad scientist-type guy. His machine fails totally.

The professor ends up at Keiichi's and sees Bandai. The professor runs into an android child and lifts up her skirt, and then later lifts up Urd's skirt to study their hips, supposedly. He finds out Skuld built the android and he ends up really angry. The mad scientist is determined to take the girl android apart.

Banpei arrives, and the scientist is determined to take him apart, also, but it takes Belldandy to finally show him he is on the wrong path.

A good story and a good example of how many scientists so interested in taking things apart that they have no respect for the fact that the thing might be a living creature.

The thing I love best about manga are those moments that come out of seemingly nowhere and tunnel straight to the center of my heart, which then pings in blissful agony that can only be relieved with tears. This volume contains one such story, in the midst of the usual motorcycle- and sibling-rivalry based shenanigans. I will not divulge the title of this story - no cheating - you have to get there on your own, reading through everyday OMG!, because the poignant beauty of the moment needs some setup in what passes for "mundane" in this wacky, slapstick-comedy universe for maximum impact. Reader, I wept. I'd give this volume five stars but unfortunately the rest of the stories compiled here jerked wry smiles, at best - while Fijishima-san may get sentimental about bikes and racing, I tend to only get weepy over examinations of loneliness and rare, precious connection.

Keiichi and Bell Dandy investigate a ghost sighting and a strange (very strange) mad scientist kidnaps one of the gang.

Fun, easy story. Fans will enjoy this book and a good choice for new readers.

The Phantom Racer story was fun, but I don't really care about Dr Moreau's fascination with Banpei's girlfriend. I want more stories about the goddesses!
