This work touches on so many areas of the war experience; A grunt's day-to-day struggle, the loss of friends and comrades, coming home and family relationship[s. It is a must read for those who were in Vietnam, had a friend or family member who was there or anyone that wants to understand more about the effect that conflct had on our young men. The poems are timeless in that all soldiers from any era or conflict can relate to them.
This is an amazingly affective sharing of personal Vietnam experiences through both essays and poems. One reading is not enough as it is just as moving on rereading.
A powerful companion to his first book, "Welcome Home", "Looking Back: An Old Soldier’s Hindsight" is a collection of free form, poetry, and haiku relating Jeff's experiences in Viet Nam. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to experience the war in a new light, and for those seeking resolution.
