Sworn to Lead

Rate this book
She’s everything he never knew he needed – but off limits in every way.

Being a Navy SEAL gives Neo “Ransom” Godfrey purpose and escape from his cold, elitist upbringing. But when he learns his estranged mother’s dead, orphaning a medically fragile half-sibling he’s never met, Ransom rushes home. He’s committed to his brother, his team, and his career, but can he juggle everything? When he meets his brother’s protective, blue-eyed nurse with an Irish lilt, his solution is simple—she should move into his Virginia Beach home where they can care for Jacob together—strictly business.

Brynn Yarrow has been Jacob’s nurse for five years. She’s unimpressed and on-guard, when six-foot-six of solid muscle and bright green eyes swaggers in full of promises. Brynn’s slow to trust, and his proposal that she move halfway across the country sounds crazy, but impossible to refuse. She loves Jacob and could never abandon him, or hurt him, like her family did to her.

Ransom has never had anyone test his self-control like Brynn. She deserves his protection, but he longs to give her so much more.

I absolutely loved this story, it is written with caring and lots emotion as we get to know navy seal Neo “Ransom” Godfrey and Brynn Yarrow add to that young Jacob Godfrey and a band of Seal brothers and this one is a page turner at its best.

Ransom has been a Navy Seal for many years now and the only family he has is his Seal brothers but then everything is turned upside down when he is told that his estranged mother is dead and that he has a thirteen year old brother, who has cerebral palsy is non-verbal and in a wheel chair, his mind spins, firstly who is caring for him and where is he?

Bryn has been Jacob’s nurse for five years now and she loves him like a son so when his own mother runs of leaving Brynn with Jacob and nothing else Brynn steps up and finds a place to stay and cares for him as she usually does with love and care. So when a stranger comes knocking on her door she will do anything to protect Jacob but it appears that this handsome man is Jacob’s brother, Brynn knows what brothers can be like can she trust him?

Brynn has been through so much in her life and trust is hard for her, Neo’s childhood was not a good one and he comes across as hard and tough but finding a brother and spending time with Brynn is breaking down the walls he has built around his heart, they are opening up to each other and the sparks are flying between them. When danger follows them to a new state Neo and his brothers will do anything to save Brynn.

This is a beautiful story, with such awesome characters, I loved it so much, it is beautifully written and one that I do highly recommend, I can’t wait for book two in the series.

My thanks to Tule Publishing for my digital copy to read and review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 stars.
A romance where two very protective people fall instantly for each other, “Sworn to Lead”, by Charlee James, is also a heartfelt story about deep brotherly love.
Both Ransom and Brynn are protectors at heart, warriors who will defend their loved ones until the last breath. Their shared love for Jacob is beautiful to watch.
Ransom, with all that SEAL efficency and authority, combined with an innate kindness and warmth, is a very attractive hero. I also loved his honesty.
I also appreciated the heroine, Brynn, a regular young woman who has become attached to Jacob and is fiercely protective of the boy.
I liked that there was no unnecessary drama between them.
Jacob is a great character, full of life, and the way Ransom and his friends bond with him is precious and sweet.
I liked having a special-needs preteen as a secondary character, and the realistic depiction, and enjoyed how all engaged in nurturing and protecting him.

Neo Godfrey was not upset when he was reading the death notification in his hands. His mother had passed if you can call her that. She had always called him a burden and never cared for him the way a mother should have. His commander had called him in to tell him the news and that he had an appointment in Boston to discuss the terms of her estate with the lawyer. He was a Navy Seal and had been prepping for an overseas mission, so he had not time for the lawyer. His mother was a cocaine addict and had driven into a brick wall. When he called the lawyer, he was told there was no money left but he found out he had a sibling. He had a 13-year-old brother, and he requires around the clock care due to spastic quadriplegia, a severe type of cerebral palsy. When he found his brother Jacob and his caretaker Brynn, he was surprised. She loved his little brother and had taken care of him even without pay for 3 months and she had sold her own things to take care of and feed Jacob. She was more of a mother to Jacob then his own mother ever would have been. He had planned on moving them back to Virginia so he could spend time with them and take care of them. They would also be safe when he was away on missions.
Both Neo and Brynn had a very disturbing childhood, but they had come through it and survived as stronger people. Brynn's young life had been a total nightmare, and she still carried the physical scars to this day.
They arrived in Virginia and had found the perfect house to buy and had just been waiting for the final approval. In the meantime, they got to know each other and became a real family with Neo and his team. They all became very protective of Brynn and Jacob and grew to love them both. They got a dog that was a special addition to the home. His apartment had become a place of laughter and lots of love. Neo and Brynn both could feel their mutual attraction growing daily. Then Neo and the team got assigned a new mission and had to leave.
What would happen while they were gone? Would Brynn stay in Virginia or leave while Neo was gone?
Would Brynn be able to take Jacob to and from school with no problems? She had an eerie feeling of someone watching her lately. Is that fear justified? Only this awesome book holds all of the secrets and answers to our questions. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I hope you will too.
I got this book from Booksprout and I am very happy to leave my review.

Sworn to Lead by Charlee James, book one in Sworn Navy SEALs series, is a story about two very protective people who fall instantly for each other; as well as a heartfelt tale about deep brotherly love. SEAL Neo “Ransom” Godfrey is the poster child for responsibility, duty and care for those on his team so when he discovers upon learning of his mother’s death, that he has a thirteen year-old half-brother with complex medical needs: a form of quadriplegia associated with cerebral palsy. Despite Neo’s upbringing and feelings towards his mother, he knows he has to be there for his little brother, jumping into action to locate and protect Jacob.

Bryn Yarrow, Jacob's nurse, has had a difficult childhood which, despite being years, she still fears certain aspects of that life. She also loves Jacob and her job taking care of him. In fact, she has even been caring using her own savings and the meager amount she earns from consignments, to keep Jacob safe and housed. Bryn is the perfect complement for Neo. He is accustomed to making things happen, while she takes a gentler approach, ensuring Jacob is happy, nurtured and loved. Bryn is the perfect complement to Neo. Her lighter approach to life rubbed off on Neo so quickly and that he learned to laugh as a result. Jacob is the focal point in this story; despite his disabilities, he has a huge grin and a clear love for life. I loved his enjoyment at being pushed high on a swing or taken running in his wheelchair. The bumper stickers Jake and Ransom chose and displayed reinforces their understanding and love of each other.

Overall this is a story about family in all its forms, connecting and caring and looking out for the positives in life. Ransom not only has Jacob and Bryn as family, but his SEAL brothers also. It was wonderful to have a special-needs preteen as a secondary character, the realistic depiction, and enjoyed how all engaged in nurturing and protecting him. Jacob is a great character, full of life, and the way Ransom and his friends bond with him is precious and sweet. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see which SEAL finds love next.

3 1/2 stars

This is a book that revolves around the strength of family and friendship and of good winning over evil. I enjoyed that part of the book. Unfortunately, I had to suspend disbelief through much of this book. I won’t go into details because I don’t want to spoil the story, but I had a hard time buying into much that happens in this book.

This is an interesting and engaging story. Jacob, a special-needs 13 year old, is a delightful character. He’s happy and gregarious despite his inability to speak with words. Bryn, originally fro Ireland, is a good woman, one who wants the best for everyone, despite her own difficult childhood. I especially liked how she saved herself when in peril and that the author didn’t take that accomplishment away from her.

What I didn’t like was how Bryn was so easily convinced to go off with Neo, having never met him before. I also had a hard time believing that Neo changed so quickly, from a cold, stoic SEAL, to warm, caring, tripping-over-his-own-feet-to-help kind of guy. I also had problems with Neo promising not to touch Bryn, and to always be there to protect her. He followed through on neither.

This book covers many things including disability, dog rescue, parental abandonment, abuse, brothers-in-arms. It also includes a fair amount of crude language, not surprising given that it involves a a Navy SEAL team.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book, and found that it had many continuity errors. I trust that final editing fixed those problems. Despite the problems, I enjoyed the story of Bryn, Neo, Jacob, and the team. This was a quick read.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher, Tule. I thank all involved for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

Sworn to Lead is the first book in the Sworn Navy SEALs series by Charlee James. This is the first book I've read by the author, and I was blown away but everything about this book. Fantastic story. Fantastic plot development. Fantastic character development. This book has so much heart and soul, but it has the rush of action and danger that is bound to come in a book featuring a group of brave Navy personnel.

The centre of this book's plot is the most heartwarming part. The story focuses on Navy SEAL Neo Godfrey, who has not seen his mother in years, who finds out after his mother's death that he has a half brother with complex medical needs (mainly a form of quadraplegia associated with cerebral palsy). Neo doesn't think - he knows that he has to be there for his little brother. And despite his upbringing and his feelings towards his mother, Neo and Jacob form a beautiful bond over the course of the book.

The romance side of the book features Jacob's nurse, Brynn Yarrow. She has had a hard childhood and she still has reason to fear certain aspects, but she also loves Jacob and her job taking care of him. In fact, she has even been caring for Jacob off her own back. There is unease when Neo turns up at her apartment, but very quickly she sees the safety and the kindness that comes from the aloof SEAL.

I can't say enough good things about this book. It was amazing. I can't wait for the next book, focusing on Neo's teammate Joker (aka Julian) and a lady I believe is a minor character that helped Brynn at one point in this story.

Navy SEAL Neo/Random Godfrey, is sworn to protect the innocent. He is sen as a tough, hard man who doesn’t believe in love, marriage and family. Especially since his upbringing was one no child should endure. Especially with a mother who was unloving and cared more about her habits, parties and men than her child.
Brynn Yarrow came to America with her grandmother to flee her own abusive childhood. Her dedication to others encouraged her to become a nurse. One she has been for the last 5 years to Jacob Godfrey,.
When Neo’s mother dies , he is shocked to find out that he has a teenage half-brother. One with extensive health issues but whose spirit brings joy to many. When Neo meets the boy and his beautiful nurse, he is determined to do everything he can for both.
Can these three find a solid ground to stand on? Will the walls around Neo’s heart starting breaking down ? Will he realize that there is another part of him that is warm and loving as is evident when interacting with Jacob?
What happens when danger makes an appearance? Will they survive it?
While the plot was engaging and the characters perfect in their imperfections, it’s Jacob who steals the show. The author masterfully presents a boy that even with his disabilities, is a child filled with love, intelligence and compassion. A reminder to many that as humans, no matter what are the circumstances, we matter.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Sworn to Lead by Charlee James is the first in her new Sworn Navy SEALs Series. I wanted to love this book which did have several wonderful elements in it. First of all, a very different perspective on a special needs person and their care. His story was handled with positive, sensitivity. I loved the end where Jacob showed he was extremely observant with the people in charge learning to pay attention to what he was communicating. I found the dedication of his nurse to be inspiring as well as his newly found brother.

What was not positive in the story was what seemed to be stereotyping of Navy SEAL Neo “Ransom” Godfrey. I have read this author’s books before and did not remember much profanity. Ramsom however seem from the beginning to exhibit that old bias, “cussing like a sailor”. I think some people do that but not necessarily someone in the Navy. Since he is intelligent, highly trained military personnel, I felt sure that he had a higher vocabulary to use than the one that was chosen for him to use throughout the book. That took away from my enjoyment of the book somewhat.

So a five for the storyline and a three for the narrow development of a main character.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

SWORN TO LEAD
by Charlee James
Release date March 12, 2024

The story really captured my heart. And I’m sure when you meet Jacob it will capture your heart to.

RN Brynn Yarrow has had a childhood from hell! Abused by her brother and parents that did not believe her. Finally her Nana helped her escape. But her heart is huge and her determination is so strong. You are going to love her.

Navy seal Neo Godfrey also had a trouble childhood. He hadn’t seen his mother in years. He gets a letter from a lawyer, telling him that the only thing that was left to him was his brother Jacob, and he never even knew he had a brother.

Jacob is Such a special young man, who was born with cerebral palsy which left him a quadriplegic. He just has the happiest spirit. The constant for him was his nurse Brynn.

Brynn and Neo have an instant attraction. And that attraction starts with both of them, seeing their affection and love that they give to Jacob.

I was asked to read this book by Tule publication. This is my honest opinion.

why do i end up reading all the superficial books recently? i think my judgement is getting faulty... i think the storyline is pretty interesting however the execution did not live up to be interesting. i felt like the author didn't go very in depth into a lot of things. for example, the hero's brother illness (or disabilities, whatever is the correct word) was just simply narrated what was it, no in depth explanation so i don't really get how serious it it. then the heroine's brother hired someone to kill her or something, ok... but i still don't get it what exactly does her brother wants? what is the purpose of whatever the brother put her through? it will be great to have some explanation instead of just saying her brother will never see outside the walls of prison, i mean... he is already in prison, so.... what then??

overall, i think it should be further develop in order to be rated a good book.

Navy SEAL Neo “Ransom” Godfrey and nurse Brynn Yarrow work together on caring for Neo’s younger, medically vulnerable brother after Neo discovers his estranged mother has died and never told him about his brother. Brynn is slow to trust but dedicated to Jacob and agrees to move with Neo to continue looking after Jacob. Despite Neo and Brynn’s past traumas they break down walls and eventually become family. Their relationship develops into love after they share vulnerabilities with each other and Neo promises to do everything to protect them, especially with his band of brothers who are the family he never got. I loved this story, the first in Charlee’s new series Sworn Navy SEALs. It’s passionate and heartfelt, there’s some depth and danger with an intensity that just keeps you reading until the end.

Family by MeemsAngel82

What a great read! I was excited and melted as I read about a man caring for his brother and then a special girl. The story was heartwarming and sweet and was just something to really make you think. The three got along beautifully and what a bunch. This was a special kid and he had a limit put upon him but still expressed his big heart and helped his brother soften his.

Finding out he had a brother rocked his world.

And made his world change for the better. Their bond was so special and his attraction to his brother's caregiver was fantastic! Sweet and sexy, this man was a true protector. A great bunch with past hurts that formed a very special family. Such an entertaining and sweet read!

This is book one in the Sworn Navy SEALs series and it features Neo and Brynn. With his estranged mother’s passing, Neo finds out he has a brother, which is where he meets Brynn. She’s the nurse that cares for his brother, who has severe cerebral palsy. He not only wants to care for the teenage brother he never knew he had but also wants to care for his brother’s nurse.

This is a very emotional story that had me tearing up a few times. The characters are amazing! I loved the strong sense of family from his SEAL team. The pace of the story was perfect and it contained everything necessary to suck you right in. I do wish we’d seen more of her brother but the story was great without it. This was my first book by this author and I can’t wait to read more!

Luck of the Irish!

Neo "Ransom" Godfrey is shocked to discover he has a handicapped, loving,15 year old brother after his estranged mother dies, so he and his SEAL brothers move Heaven and Earth to find him in Massachusetts. When he does find him he also meets Jacob's beautiful Irish, and very protective, nurse, Brynn. He moves them both back to Virginia with him. Despite all the evil he and his brothers have seen, it pales to what Brynn has been through since childhood. Unfortunately, her past has found her again.

I loved all the characters, and the suspenseful plot, but the part I got a kick out of is knowing the places in Mass/New England that we've lived near for years. Thank you. I recommend this book.

Sworn to Lead by Charlee James is the first book in the Sworn Navy Seals series. Navy Seal Neo 'Ransom' Godfrey learns he has an unknown disabled brother, Jacob, when he is informed of his mother's death. He is being cared for by his nurse, Brynn Yarrow, who is his fierce protector and advocate. This story is about courage, determination, and resiliency. Neo and Brynn must overcome painful pasts to work on making a future that is best for them. Jacob's medical challenges were well-written realistically and sensitively. The team as secondary characters were great. I loved the interaction between them and how they readily and easily adopted Jacob and Brynn into their family. I loved watching this story unfold and I look forward to reading the next installment.

This is a fantastic slow burn with a great sprinkling of mystery and danger that has you hooked.
I loved how Neo went into protective mode not only after learning he ha a 13yo brother but also when he met Brynn who literally was an angel with how she cared for Noah while his awful mother was busy doing anything but being a mother like she did with Neo.
Neo, Brynn and Noah make a great family and then Neo's team are the guys you want having your back like they did for Neo and Brynn but also the uncles any kid would want so I can not wait till they all start finding their match!!.

Neo is a Navy Seal who just found out he has a younger brother. Being estranged from his destructive mother he had no idea she had another child. She blew threw her family's wealth but Neo has saved his trust fund and saved his money he has earned as a SEAL. Now he needs to find his brother. What he finds is the lovely nurse Brynn. His mother left Brynn to fend for herself and Jacob. Now Neo promises to take care of both of them. His sense of honor is intense. There is an instant spark between them but can he risk taking a chance with Brynn when Jacob needs her? Can Brynn escape her past or will it finally catch up to her and can Neo protect her? Good read.

Neo is a Navy SEAL whose mother has just died and when talking to her lawyer, he told him about his brother, Jacob. He can’t believe he has missed the first thirteen years of his life.
Brynn is a nurse who has been taking care of Jacob for the last four years. Her life has not been easy at all.
I loved Jakob. The author has done a great job describing his expressive beautiful green eyes.
This is a very emotional read that brought tears to my eyes. This is one of the best books I have read lately.

I couldn’t get enough of this story.

I read this book in record time. I just couldn’t put it down. Even though they were total opposites, Brynn and Neo were perfect for each other. Where Neo was a tough guy, a Navy SEAL, Brynn was a nurturer, a caregiver for Neo’s brother, that Neo didn’t even know he had. The story was heartfelt and emotional and just an all-around wonderful romance with great family dynamics, friendships and some intense action scenes. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series

Quite good
This was a fairly enjoyable protector romance. Some of the plot came across as a little unrealistic but I liked that there wasn't an overabundance of drama nor angst.
I was happy for Ransom and Brynn although didn't feel as close a connection to them as i would have liked. What I did appreciate was that this book featured a young teenage boy with special needs and thought that his character brought a tenderness to the story.

A Navy Seal learns his mother has died . He didn’t want anything from her estate but thought he would give anything away . While home he finds out she has had another son . Neo doesn’t question any of it abd immediately makes provisions for his severely disabled brother who he loves unconditionally. He meets the caregiver and admires how she gave up so much to care for Jacob . Neo convinced her to move with them near his base and so readily included Brynn as part of his greater family including his Seal brothers . There is mystery and a love story mixed together . Well done

A heart-warming start to a new series Sworn to Lead by Charlee James. The first book in the Sworn Navy SEALs series. That author really knows how to give you an extraordinary storyline. It hooked me in from the first chapter and I hated to put the book down. I can't wait to read more books in this series and more stories with these characters.

This is book 1 in the new Sworn Navy SEALS series. It's a wonderful beginning and the men introduced in this book will make for some great followup books. Neo learns that he has a teenage brother that is handicapped and takes leave to find him. When he does he moves Jacob and his nurse, Brynn to Virginia. A little predictable, they fall in love and a man from her past intrudes. Can't wait for book 2, Sworn to Honor.

Upon his mother’s death, Neo finds out he has a brother he knew nothing about. Brynn is Jacob’s nurse and protector caring for him out of her own pocket until Neo finds them and brings them home with him. But Brynn and the dog she rescued both suffered and the darkness from her past has come back for her. It’s awful what was done to Brynn, that so many didn’t believe her even with all the scars, and how Neo’s mother put herself so far above her sons.

I found this book to be exciting, heartfelt, with the bad guy coming off second best, but it also has a slightly lighter side to it.
Ransom is every woman's dreamboat, a bit rough around the edges, muscles upon muscles but as sexy as hell.
Bree is feisty, stubborn and compassionate
I enjoyed this book, I haven't bought from this author before but you can bet I'll be coming back for seconds and thirds
