Read by our 7 year old. Her review: "I loved this story! It's a nice story about two mice and a cat, and I love cats. The words were easy to read for me. I think I'll read it again tonight!"
Not the greatest and I suspect it is because the book might be 'inspired by' and not actually from Scotton. Still, it was good reading practice and it has its funny moments.
Splat the Cat continues to dominate!!! And now, you can see more of Seymour the mouse, and his new cousin, a new addition to the Splatty Canon, Cousin Brice of the gray mice! Niiiiice! Splatty wants to treat the new visitor to the very best: a party with cheesy rice, a nice mice ice sculpture, and a VHS showing of the classic film Of Mice and Mice (he may have had a copy of the Miceman Cometh, but it's a mousey-monster film and considered too scary for little mice or even kittens! Brrr!). As usual things for Splatty and his mousey get messy when the sculpture starts to melt into a puddle, and as we know cats and puddles don't quiiiiite agree with each other. But Brice's ebullient spirit saves the day, and yes your heart too will melt, kinda like the ice sculpture! Regardless of which writer writes him, Splatty still reigns with his sweet nature and clumsy cuteness. Splatty rules once again! Four stars Every day with Splatty is a HOWLYDAY ON ICE!!!!
Super-cute, Splat the cat is such an adorable character with a good, wholesome attitude about acceptance; he loves his pet Seymore, who is a mouse and was not only gracious enough to hosts Seymore's cousin, Brice, when he came for a visit but also went out of his way to make a sculpture of Brice to welcome him. What a wonderful lesson to teach young children (and maybe even some adults) about being hospitable and selflessness, and just having a positive outlook overall.
Seymour's brother Brice is coming to visit. Splat nervously prepares to welcome Brice by carving an ice sculpture and preparing special food. This beginning reader is a great story for young readers. The color illustrations complement the text and add to the humor of the story. The story encourages hospitality by showing Seymour writing a letter to invite his brother and all the planning- renting a movie, considering what games to play and what to eat - that goes into welcoming a person into your home. Strongly recommended.
