A Charming Spell by Tonya Kappes Book 4 of the Magical Cures Mystery series. Paranormal magical mystery. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. A magical town. A mystery. A very crafty cat. A sarcastic crystal ball medium. A new book store is coming to Whispering Falls but it’s off to a bad start when the local real estate agent is found dead. June is the new Village President but she more focused on Oscar and his loss of memory.
This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book four of fourteen
Oh so many series, authors, new series, and releases and so little time.
June is busy with her shop being the new elected mayor, getting her boyfriend back, and now a murder. Why? By whom? The investigation leads to the truth and arrest of a very bad man.
I would recommend this series and author to readers of fantasy world 🌍 family and friends adventure magical mystery novels 🏙 2024 👒🐱
This was another good mystery in the series. In this one June is trying to find a cure for Oscar. He still doesn't remember what really happened. Then a murder happens in town and she spends most of her time trying to solve it. Between the two she finds herself busy.
June is on a mission to restore Oscar’s memories of his time living in Whispering Falls at the same time as she is starting her job as the new president of the village. When Alexelrod Primrose goes to June with his concerns about the owner of the new bookstore she tells him that she will hear him at the upcoming meeting. However, Alexelrod turns up dead before he can tell her his concerns. June wants to solve the murder, but she is having a hard time because Oscar seems to be in love with someone new.
I love June, Mr. Prince Charming, and many of the other characters, one of those characters is Raven. Raven is a good friend to June, she even created a desert which she named June’s Gems in her bakery. The mystery was well-plotted with plenty of twists and turns. I did not see the culprit as a suspect, so I was surprised by the reveal.
I listened to the audio version of the book my second time through. The narrator is great at becoming the voice of the characters. She makes the listening experience entertaining and enjoyable.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, I have not been influenced by anyone.
Oh what a twisted web. While I did figure out the culprit of this one fairly quickly on my own it was still a shocking revelation. The motive and additional information was just icing on the mystery cake.
Tonya Kappes writes a huge amount of very enjoyable cozy mysteries, and this book is no exception. Well-written, well-paced, and entertaining. I'm hoping my library obtains the other books from this series. Worth the time to read.
Cozy magical story. Picks up after June was cleared of a murder. Her Boyfriend memories were erased and she trying to figure out how to bring him back to her. Meanwhile the town is being destroyed by bad magic but who is causing it. Clean YA book or anyone who just wants an easy read.
So June is now Village President of Whispering Falls, KY and is working on amending some village laws so that it makes the lives of her residents easier and her life as well. Except for her damn constant moping about Oscar and his erased memory/stripped spiritual powers. Yet another book with June basically breaking some big time laws in the spiritualist community just so she can have Oscar as her lover again and thinking she is being sneaky about it, but everyone knows she is breaking laws and it is wrecking havoc on WF. Petunia got on my last nerve; honestly for a middle-age woman who talks with animals, she acted like the most spoiled brat for not being named Village President.
As for the mystery, yet again everyone blames the new merchant in town for the death but the killer is a behind the scenes/blend into the crowd type. June's (and a few other residents) lives are in peril when the WF cops barge in to take out the killer....because they just followed June.
Still no actual food is eaten by June, just a crap ton of Ding Dongs. This world is fun to be in while reading, but it really doesn't stick with you after the book ends. And the author is still in need of a copy editor!

I enjoyed this book, a new shop is opening in town and there is a protestor against it. June is dealing with plenty in this book a new deputy, and his assistant, the book store owner Ophelia, the protestor, Oscar's memory is still gone, June is kept busy. The only problem I have with this story is for June wanting to make a potion to restore Oscar's memory because she's madly in love with him, she certainly puts it off quite a bit. I also wasn't fond of an incident with June and Ophelia about an innocent girl, I don't find people being picked on amusing. That being said, the mystery was good and kept me guessing, with some twists that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I do like the introduction of Ophelia, I think she's definitely going to add some fun to this cast of characters. I will continue on with this series. July 4, 2015
I listened to this book for a second reading on Aug. 14, 2017. I enjoyed this very much, I had never listened to an audible before and was happy to find out how much I enjoyed it. It made a long road trip go much faster.
Tonya Kappes has done it again! June Heal is one of my favorite characters. I love to read her adventures in Whispering Falls with her finicky crystal ball, Madame Torres, and frisky feline familiar, Mr. Prince Charming. June always finds herself in the middle of a mystery in her little spiritual town, and this time is no different. When a member of the community is found murdered, it's up to June to solve the crime and catch the culprit. Throughout the book, many possibilities arose, and when the killer was revealed at the end, it was a bit of a shock. Throughout the book, June also dealt with being the newly-elected Village President, her heartache over losing Oscar, and her determination in getting him back. We also met some new residents of Whispering Falls. Wow! What a great book Tonya has written. I love hearing June's tales, and look forward to the next one.
I was "Charmed" again!! I am always so excited to read the next story in the Charming series and then when I am done I can't wait for the next one. They just keep getting better and better. You will definitely get drawn into the world of June, Mr.Prince Charming and Whispering Falls. Tonya Kappes has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. A Charming Spell is filled with mystery and intrigue and also has it's funny and touching moments. I can't wait for the next visit to Whispering Falls to see what happens next.
Tonya Kappes is in her element with this book. It is a fun, fast read that has the main character, June Heal being her inquisitive self and doing what she does best, create chaos. She doesn't disappoint with her intuitive ability in creating just the right potion. There is also growth in her character as she actually shows more maturity than in the last few books. I was stunned with the whole make-a-match (oh that meddling Madame Torres), Oscar, and Colton dating thing, but appreciated the twists. I also like the new characters tossed into Whispering Falls.
This is the 4th book in the series and is as good or better than the rest. Just like always June is up to her eye brows in magic, good and bad. Oscar still doesn't have his memory and there is a murder!!! What I like about Tonya's books is that she waits until the end to reveal the murderer. This time there are witches, wild animals and there's a new sheriff in town. Is that good, or bad? I guess you'll have to read the book to find out.
Shhh...there is a killer on the lose. And like true heroines, June does sense fear in the village. You will feel it, too! As the new village pres., she has to do something and as the ever curious sleuth she could not stand aside anyway... Of course, you can count on seeing some of your very favorite characters back in Whispering Falls! Yet, perhaps, you'll even meet a few quirky new ones. Be prepared!
I Love the Magical Cures Mystery Series!! This is my fav story!! There was so much back and forth in this book, I wasn't sure who the bad guy/girl was until the very end!! I was totally glued trying to figure it out. About the time I thought I knew what was going on I was pitch a punch the other direction. Thanks Tonya Kappes for keeping me so entertained.
Another great cozy mystery by Tonya Kappes! This book has everything: mystery, murder, spells, humor, a fairy god cat, a chrystal ball with an attitude and of course June and Oscar. I enjoy Tonya Kappes writing style. She knows how to keep you interested and wanting more. I highly recommend this book!
Words left out, extra words added. Sentebses that didn’t make any sense. The proofreaders need to be a little careful. If proofreaders are even used any more.
This is the fourth book in the series. Oh my, June is desperate to find a potion to reverse Oscar’s loss of memory which was caused when he knowingly denounced all of his powers in an attempt to save June from being railroaded for the death of Native Indian Spiritualist. June is the new Village President, Alexelrod Primrose rudely awakens her to discuss village business. June stalls him to the meeting that evening. She doesn’t want to set a precedence of everyone showing up whenever they want to discuss/complain about village matters.
During the first evening meeting, a scream is heard. Everyone goes into town to find out what the scream was about. A spiritualist is found dead in front of the new book store. Gandolf and the Karima sisters quickly deduce it was murder.
Who did it and why? You’ll need to read to find out. What is Ophelia’s power, did she do it? If not, whom?
Will Oscar fall for someone else? Has June lost Oscar? Will Oscar ever remember the past year or two? See what happens. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I am looking forward to the next one in the series.
A charming spell. Oscar has forgotten who he is and who June is and the longer they are part the further removed he is from who and what he was. June is absolutely determined to get him back and so her focus is not on what’s going on in the town. There’s a new sheriff and a new deputy and there’s a new bookstore and it’s new owner. So many things are just out of whack. But who to blame? And since June’s attention is not on what’s happening in the town she’s not helping very much to find out what’s wrong and solve the problems. This charming series is just for fun. The characters are fun to read about and the dilemmas that they find themselves in. Ms Kappes has a wonderful imagination and is so creative with this series. I am looking forward to the next book!!
I am absolutely loving this series so cute, short reads and so much fun. There is an awful lot of murdering in the small town though, Lol. Mr. Prince Charming is still June's Fairy God Cat but in this installment Oscar gives up his sorcerer powers to help June figure out the latest murder...because of that he can no longer live in Whispering Falls Kentucky. And, he forgets he was in love with June and living with her. He goes back to a "normal" town and when June goes to have supper with him he introduces her to his new girl-friend....June decides to make a potion to help Oscar recover his memory of who he is and more importantly that he is in love with and living with her....What can go wrong????LOL
"A Charming Spell (A Magical Cure Mystery #4)" by Tonya Kappes follows the now usual pattern of new shop pops up, new shopkeeper is suspicious, someone dies, June gets blamed, June solves it but not until the culprit is right in front of her revealing themselves and makes a new friend. This time it's a magical bookstore run by a witch. June is starting to try to figure out how to get Oscar to remember his time in Whispering Falls. As the pattern suggests, things work put in the end. However, this time there were a few other secrets that genuinely threw me off a bit longer than usual for this series.
I truly escape the overwhelming hustle of today’s life. When I read Tonya Kappes books. When you read her books you will become apart of the community. There is no doubt you envision yourself as the or all the characters. It’s like role playing. Your own private play. You hate when the story ends. But you try to sit patiently and wait until the next book comes out. It’s funny you become a trolly to her sites. Looking for any bit of information on the next release. Don’t miss any series or stand alone’s.
This latest installment was interesting with June getting ready to welcome a new store owner to Whispering Falls. I did enjoy the addition of Ophelia as a character and thought Ever After Book Shop sounded like a great place to hang out in. Felt bad for June with how the situation has been going with Oscar. There are still some loose ends and things that happen in this book that don't make sense in this book but I am getting used to that. I still enjoy the books but I do admit to finding that a little frustrating.
A new store has opened in Whispering Fall – Ever After Books. The owner, Ophelia, is stirring things up. Alexelrod, the local realtor who was the reason Ophelia came to Whispering Falls is having extreme second thoughts about Ophelia being in town. There is also a new sheriff, Colton. He will replace Oscar since he has no memory of being a spiritualist or memories of the last year and a half and this is breaking June’s heart. There is a dark plan at foot and it takes all of June’s wits to figure it out.
The previous book was such a mess! Discombobulated, full of every kind of error & so disappointing I actually stopped 1\3 of the way in ' read other series. I have enjoyed many of Tonya Kappes' books ; & could not make myself cut her off my happy book list! So, after a decent interval I re-read it, & was still disappointed... A LOT! But what if our writers just up & quit after a bad ,un? I took chance & read this. I, happier now, am hoping this series is back on track
Fun series, great light listen. I'm about half way through the series. I love the concept of the small town with the different spiritualists and their corresponding shops, a new one introduced each book. Plots are pretty basic, but I enjoyed the guessing. The main character was nice and quite likeable in the first few books, but got a bit of an attitude as the series progressed. The author over-uses certain phrases to an annoying degree (e.g. "my intuition" and "sneaky suspicion.")
Wow! I love A Charming Spell! This book is entertaining and fun. I love June. We meet some new residents to Whispering Falls and they are really interesting. A Charming Spell is full of adventure. It captures your attention right from the beginning and keeps you engaged until the end. The mystery is intriguing. There are many twists that keep you guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book. I love this whole series. It is one of my absolute favorite series!
I really enjoy visiting Whispering Falls and catching up with the residents and meeting new additions to the town. June is desperate to help Oscar remember and blunders her way through but in the end, she always does the right thing and helps the town. Looking forward to more of Ophelia in future stories.
This is another magical cozy. June is appointed to a new position in the village. Is she up to the challenge while at the same time trying to get the love of her life to remember what they mean to each other. And to top it off, there are other dark forces that threaten the village. Needless to say her plate is full. I highly recommended this series.
