I began training Judo in 2011 at the North Delta Judo Club under Sensei Alex Mahler, who laid the foundation for my development in the art. When the club closed, I transitioned to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) Judo Club at Cordova. There, I had the privilege of training with Sgt. Hinton, Sensei Shipper, Sgt. Steinkampf, S. Cst. Hsiang, and Cst. Arsenault—instructors who not only refined my technique but also shaped my understanding of Judo as a discipline rooted in humility and service. I continue to maintain strong relationships with my senseis to this day.

From 2012 to the present, I have trained consistently with Police Judo clubs across the Lower Mainland, including Simon Fraser University Police Judo, the Tactical Training Centre Police Judo Club, the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), and the Oddsquad Police Judo Club. In 2017, I earned my Police Judo Black Belt, a milestone that represents years of dedication, discipline, and continuous learning. Even now, I approach training with the mindset of a student—always improving, always evolving.

For me, Judo is more than a martial art; it is a way of life. It has strengthened not only my professional abilities but also my character and resilience. Judo has helped me stand back up during difficult moments, both on and off the mats. As the saying goes, in Judo, “you learn to pick yourself up no matter how hard you fall.” The art has kept me humble, confident, and kind, and its lessons are ones I carry with me every day.
