A basic guide to discerning the will of God.'How do I know what God's will is for my life?' It is perhaps the most common question asked by Christians today. Dr. Bill Thrasher has provided a basic guide to the fundamentals of seeking God's will in Living the Life God Has Planned. Thrasher teaches readers that they must first seek to know God on a more intimate level before His will becomes more apparent to them. Readers of all maturity levels will appreciate the simplicity and practical nature of this product.
Bill Thrasher has served on the faculty of Moody Bible Institute since 1980 and on the graduate school faculty since 1990, where he oversees the Master's Program in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship.
He is a frequent speaker in churches and retreats across the county. He has written numerous articles and several books on Christian Living. His books include, "Living the Life God has Planned: How to Know God's Will", "A Journey to Victorious Praying: Finding Discipline and Delight in your Prayer Life," and "Believing God for His Best: How to Marry Contentment and Singleness", published by Moody Press. Two other books he has written are, "The Attributes of God in Pauline Theology" and "Principles of Christian Living from Romans 5-8."
Bill and his wife, Penny, live in the Chicagoland area and have three sons.
How could you go wrong with an author who is such a man of God? Good, solid, simple insights on living the life God would have for you. A great book for any believer, especially for a young believer who really wants to follow God. Thank you Dr. Thrasher.
I was fortunate to read this book while taking Dr. Thrasher's course on Spiritual Formation at Moody. Reading this book will provide a significant peak into the seminary course he taught as it tracks very close to his lectures.
When I started reading this book, I didn't notice the subtitle. I've read books on God's will before without really getting much from them. Fortunately, Dr. Thrasher takes a fairly different approach at answering the question. Either his book was far more straightforward or my mind was finally ready to hear the answer. The main point is that in order to know God's will, we have to slow down and let go of the question enough to focus primarily on increasing our comprehension of who God is. This is difficult for us type A personalities. In short, God's will right now is for you to know Him better. As you do that, He may give you some other direction too, but it is likely that His will will always be focused on your understanding of Him. Who could ever say that they know everything about God? As a result, most of the book is focused on the character of God and how that relates to us.
I thought the book did a great job of getting the concept through to me. However, I had the benefit of Thrasher's lectures as well. I am certain that this book will give you a greater understanding of the character of God. That alone is worthy of all our time.
Dr. Thrasher was one of my profs in grad school. His teaching had a profound effect on all of us students, so we were thrilled when he started writing books! It gave us an opportunity to have his teaching/ lectures on key topics summarized and recorded for future review. This book does not disappoint. An excellent work for people looking to understand God's will for their lives as well as for those who just want to know God better. Highly recommended.
Dr. Thrasher was a professor of mine in grad school and this book is basically the content of one of the classes he teaches. It impacted the way I think about God and the way I view prayer, among other things. I recommended it to anyone NOT looking for a quick fix.
