📚 Book Review 📚 Shadow Moon By Nellie H. Steele ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Shadow Moon is the fourth book in the Shelving Magic Contemporary Fantasy Series and is a real page-turner. Paige Turner, the newest paranormal librarian, and her devoted research assistant Dewey, a teacup dragon, are assigned a high-priority, code-red mission, to secure and retrieve the Bronze Ring, The Bronze Ring allows anyone possessing it unfettered access to any time period they would like. The consequences and power of that alone are overwhelming. Still, the real danger is the other faction vying for the ring, the Transylvanian Vampires, who undoubtedly will use it to change history. Paige and Dewey must also contend with the addition of Devon to her team, a day-walking vampire who has tried to kill her in the past, although he insists that he wasn’t. Devon also insists that Paige’s mother is still alive, and he wants to help Paige find her. On their quest to retrieve the ring, a series of unfortunate, deadly events sidetracked the team from their original mission. As their operation progresses, another librarian joins the team, a person who has been convicted of killing Paige's mother. When they finally reach their destination, it will take all the members and their abilities to defeat the Transylvanian Vampires and all the dangers surrounding the ring. This series is full of thrilling action and overwhelming adventure. There is so much built into this story that the reader easily gets drawn into the story’s scenario and feels compelled to cheer on the team. The interrelationships between the characters were well-developed, amusing at times, and highly captivating. Suspense abounds throughout the journey with some tense moments intertwined to make the story that much more enjoyable. I found the book well-written, witty, and an easy and delightful read. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy
I love this series - it's funny, silly and very light-hearted. Sometimes just what you need from heavier reading!
In this one, Paige and her teacup dragon sidekick Dewey are sent out to retrieve yet another very important artefact, which may or may not cause the end of the world if the vampires get hold of it first. But like with every one of their missions so far, nothing ever runs smoothly and there are more side tracks and diversions at every turn before they can possibly get on track to find this artefact. There's a slight difference this time to their usual antics - they need protection, and the only person the Library can get at such short notice is Devon.
Yep the one and only Devon who has tormented Paige in various ways since the day he met her. As you can imagine, that protection detail goes down like a lead balloon! But Paige and Dewey deal with it as best they can and then to top it all off....Drucinda joins them later on too! I loved this twist and maybe, possibly, somehow, Paige might now get some of the answers she so desperately needs! I think Paige could definitely learn a thing or two about being a Librarian from Drucinda, if only she gave her a chance.
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series soon as I have just bought it, but am going to read the prequel Shadow Origins first!
Sigh I really want to love this series since I’m a huge Librarian and Warehouse 13 fan and I love the concept and the world building but Dewey annoys the hell out of me. He’s rude, derogative, selfish and mean the way he treats Paige is abusive and the way Paige takes it cause she lacks any self worth from her “trauma” of being an orphan is horrible. Paige is so closed minded and keep flipping out without listening to facts is annoying as she is supposed to be all about facts, how else can you be a librarian, also Paige is written way way way to young at 36 she should be beyond half her behavior I keep forgetting she’s not in her early 20s. I pushed past all my hesitation for the first 3 books but I had to stop 15% of the way through book 4 cause there hasn’t been growth or development in the 2 main characters and I don’t think it will get any better, so if you see reading this in invest your time reading this series cautiously. Sigh I really wanted to love this series 😩
This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Think librarians and warehouse 13 and a little bit of paranormal fantasy stir twice and enjoy. Paige Turner is a librarian at the library in her city. There are hundreds of these libraries around the world. Each one has a light librarian And an arch that goes around the world retrieving mystical paranormal and dangerous artifacts to keep out the wrong hands. Once they retrieve them they store them within bolts deep underground and away from evil and annoying mankind. Read and follow the adventures of Paige Turner and her partner Dewey as they seek out Special objects must fight against paranormal beings to retrieve them. An action and adventure story that is entertaining and a fun read.
Paige and Dewey (a teacup dragon) are special 'librarians' who do not shelve books. They collect and care for magical books and artifacts on anything paranormal. In each book in this series they are sent on a mission to acquire a deadly artifact. In this book it is a ring that a certain type of evil vampire is after. The race for the artifact has a Lara Croft feel to it. All kinds of obstacles and life threatening situations must be dealt with. But the main characters are definitely not like Lara Croft! They are irreverent and clumsy and whiney. They bicker constantly. And they are best friends. This series is fun and I am looking forward to the next one.
These books are always such a riot! I was laughing so hard at one scene involving Paige and Dewey riding on top of an Ice Panther that I almost snorted Dr Pepper out if my nose 😂!!!! And we finally get to meet Dewey’s family! There’s snark and banter, Paige getting into danger thanks to her clumsiness only to get out of danger also thanks to her clumsiness (not to mention her hot neighbor Devon and suspicious fellow librarian, Drucinda). Dewey still can’t make a potion to save his life. Of course there’s another world-ending artifact to retrieve before the bad guys get there first, and the ongoing mystery of Paige’s mother. So much fun!
I love this series so much fun Paige Turner is still on the hunt for Library relics and her mother whom she has thought dead for so long. Dewey Decmal is also with her the vampire Devon and Drusinda who Paige always thought killed her mother but she finds the woman is not responsible at all possibly her boss Ronnie might just be though....excellent series can't wait for more
Another magical adventure with Paige, Dewey, VAMPIRES & more vampires 🧛♂️🧛♀️🧛 Will they be able to stop them?? I've been listening to this series on Patreon, Nellie's new audio site. You'll love it.
Don't bother unless you lime fantastical, unbelievable storylone. I had to cope read to get through this onr. And yet I still tried book number two. Silly me.
Paige and Dewey are trying to research her charm bracelet and the possibility that her mother is still alive when they’re sent out on another case. This time they need to keep a bronze ring out of the hands of the Transylvanian vampires. Ronnie decides that Paige needs help for this task and brings Devon in. Paige and Dewey are not pleased. After all he’s already marked her, stalked her, kidnapped her, and held her captive. How is she supposed to trust him? Despite her misgivings, Paige agrees to the help. The team sets out for their destination, Antarctica, but this being a library retrieval, things spiral out of control almost immediately. From escaping a plane crash to getting lost in the rainforest, escaping harpies and tangling with slime dragons, not to mention battling the vampires, things look bleak for our heroes. When Drucinda shows up, is she there to help or cause more problems for Paige?
Shadow Moon, book 4 in the Shelving Magic series, is a nonstop adventure with thrills, chills, pathos, and laughs. Dewey is given the chance to show his true strength to his family. The bond between Paige and Dewey continues to grow as they tease and snark at each other much like siblings. Paige is given a lot to consider as Dru and Devon reveal more about Reed and her past. What happened on Reed’s last mission and if she’s not dead, where has she been for 30 years? And just why is a relatively clueless, klutzy, junior librarian being sent on so many dangerous missions? Like her mother before her, Paige is struggling with who she can trust. Absolutely can’t wait for more to be revealed in this compelling series.
