I don’t know..I don’t really want to give it 4⭐️ but at the same time, 3.5⭐️ seems a bit harsh so here it is. I think it was fun. Still thrilling and exciting and pretty bloody and scary, but there’s just something about the way the relationship in this series was written. Either friendship or relationship, I didn’t feel any connection with it, tbh. Ruan and Linlin were cute together, ofc, but I don’t think I’d loved them as much if I haven’t seen the series before. I know romance is a subplot for this but still, it was poorly written in my opinion. There were flirtings then and there, but nothing ever felt serious at all for me. Everything about them felt so sudden despite the fact that this is book four already. It was supposed to make sense that they finally agreed on officially dating each other but somehow the writer didn’t manage to make me feel like it made any sense at all. Friendship also. Was I supposed to feel anything when Zaozao or Wu qi died here? Cause I felt absolutely nothing. I mean I didn’t even get to read about them all that much so killing them didn’t have any effect at all. In fact, I felt more towards one of the players in the demon box door, which told me enough about how lacking the relationship and friendship aspects in this series were. But eh, still fun at the end of the day. It just gives me this kind of ‘ye, the writer probably intended to use BL to sell more.’ sort of feeling and I don’t really appreciate that at all.🙃
idk why goodreads doesn't have an option for the full webnovel so this review is for the whole work. Wild ride. Messed with my brain. I'm still reeling from the ending and the first extra. I like reading works that bring me close to this feeling of mortality and mild existential horror. Highly recommend
