Introducing the extremely intelligent Devon Rex the rescue team arrives at the local mall in hopes that their missing comrades can be saved from the ever present threat of succumbing to the cuteness that ultimately causes you to also turn into a cat if you are touched by them.
Sadly while the book is still funny considering how it seems the only people we really see are all cat lovers in some way or another it doesn't really cover much of a story instead being mostly about introducing the friendly and intelligent Devon Rex who helped them avoid the crowded cat territory that the mall has become. As usual it is obvious not only is Hawkman a huge cat lover but a talented creator who not only makes his own cats for the series but also features cats in real life who get mentioned in the book. I also really enjoyed the movie references parodied in the volume whether it be a movie poster or a funny Jack Nicholson door scene.
Of course being a story basically about the cat that gained the trust of humans there are some extra stories about others not a part of the original story which were interesting but I hope the mangaka doesn't put out a fluff manga with random stories considering how the main cast has some mystery that can be explored and eventually it will be nice to see something about why the cat curse in in effect.
I... sort of don't like this one as much as the others so far? Like, it's not really clear whether this is actually a GREEN cat or if that's stylisation for the cover, or whether he's an alien cat as seems to be suggested (none of the characters remark on it beyond him being a Devon Rex).
Most of what I dislike is the diversion from the "main" story in the last third of the volume to two other stories about survivors of the ApoCATlypse, which are... fine... but I want to know more about the smart cat! It cuts off just when things are getting good! () Guess I'll need to find the next volume! ...along with all the OTHER next volumes I need to find for EVERY OTHER SERIES I'm following... D:
While most cats dislike water, there are cat breeds that don't mind it. One such breed is the Turkish Van originating near Turkey's Lake Van, this breed is believed to have such an unusual fascination with water that they are known as "swimming cats."
It's rare to find a story which is a ridiculous as it is sublime. Nothing about this series should work beyond the initial premise yet they manage to create a narrative which is compelling and laugh out loud funny.
A new virus is spreading across the world. Rather than the usual zombie approach, this virus turns the infected into cats! Cue exposed bellies desperate to be rubbed, kitten eyes, and other nefarious tactics to lure unexpecting humans to their doom!
Kunagi and Kaoru may not have found Tsutsumi but they have found refuge in an old museum. Working with other survivors, their role is to seek out supplies and resources. When another team do not return from a similar mission, they are tasked with rescuing any survivors.
Arriving at the shopping centre, they discover two people have survived, aided by a mysterious cat which seems to be able to understand human speech and writing. They also uncover a new threat when a bear attacks the group, controlled by a cat!
We are firmly in comedy horror territory yet there is peril, intrigue and host of cat facts thrown in for good measure. 5 stars.
This manga is so extra. I kind of love it. So, in case you don't know, this series is basically the Walking Dead. But cats instead of zombies. And also, the people of this world are obsessed with cats. So not only can they not bring themselves to hurt the cats when trying to avoid being turned into cats, they also have to fight against their desires to cuddle the cute kitties. Because, again, it will turn them into cats.
It leads to many funny and ridiculous situations. Made all the funnier by the fact that the art style gives major horror vibes. The bonus cases at the end were great. I liked the one with the two ladies more, though. Honestly, that one girl pulling out her phone as something insane happened in front of her, then taking a picture and setting everything off, was just so real to me. This is a great series. I can't wait for the next volume.
I love all the cat fats, pop culture references but cat, and the ridiculous story. Even the characters recognize it’s ridiculous and question each other to make sense. It’s pretty funny.
This volume introduces the readers to the concept of cats controlling animals to turn into a cat through their mannerisms. Like a cat parasite! It’s so silly!
I like the introduction to the new cat character, Jones, on the cover of this book. I wonder if he’ll play a role in solving this catpocalypse. He’s a smart kitty!
While the artwork in this one continues to impress me, You can tell this was just all filler and not much substance. While I don’t hate it, and I did enjoy the filler, it could’ve been used to progress the story more. I’m hoping in volume 5 we have something that really shakes up the storyline and our main characters cause 3 was alright and 4 was meh.
This already bonkers series is going even further off the rails, and I am HERE FOR IT. Like the third book, this one isn't as good as the first two, but I did like it more than the last one. I laughed a whole lot, mostly at its absurdity. You can tell the creators had a ton of fun making this, and I'm happy to report that I had a ton of fun reading it.
Another great addition to this quirky series! The survivors find an intelligent kitty who can communicate and read. D-Rex might be able to give some answers to what could be causing the cat-apocalypse! At least that is my thought. Cute, funny, easy read! Throughly enjoying this manga series can’t wait for the next one to come out!
I think I am going to call it quits after this volume. There's not much going on still, and characters are still not grabbing my attention. I did enjoy the shining reference. The cat that can read was kind of cool and I would be curious to know how that plays out.
It's cute, but each one I read, it pains me to say, is that it's just a little too much for kids and not big strong burly men like me. Unfortunately I won't be continuing on with the series.
This will be a spoiler free review. Onto the review!
I picked up this relatively new manga series because I saw someone reading them at the library, and I was curious what they were about. The general story is this: There is a virus going around that turns people into cats. If you come into contact with a cat, you will be infected and become a cat yourself. The main characters are all workers from a cat cafe, and they’re trying to escape all the cats who keep being super cute and trying to interact with them. That’s basically the entire plot.
I can’t tell if this is meant to be a serious dystopian series or not. The threat doesn’t feel all that real most of the time, because the cats are so darn cute. Plus, there are references to all sorts of sci-fi and dystopian movies, tv shows, and books, which are hilarious if you get the joke. I only understood some of it, but it didn’t really matter. It was funny either way. Because of all the jokes and the super cute cats this almost feels like it’s supposed to be a parody.
I really liked all the cute cats and the funny moments, but I wish I had a bit more connection to the characters. We haven’t gotten much about their backstories yet. But that could be coming in later volumes. We mostly get these over the top action scenes where they’re using cat toys and catnip to avoid being touched by the infected cats. If you’re looking for a fun series where it doesn’t take itself too seriously, I definitely recommend this series.
Or if you just really like cats. This is definitely a series for cat lovers. I may be a fox fan usually, but cats are also cute. They’re the practical version of foxes. Cute as heck and actually possible to have as pets.
