Bob and the fleet are doing their best to keep a lid on things at Earth, when a desperate call for help comes in. Topper and Dingus ride off to square things away, until Bob gets another call, and joins the fleet. Can they handle what they’ve found? What’s going on, way out there in Commonwealth space? Only one way to find out!
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
Another page turner. Bob and company take on slavers led by Odiferous Pondwater. Boyd masterfully brings us a conclusion and leaves enough open-ended to set up the next book. These books are just plain fun. Go to Bob's Saucer Repair, (Book one) and join the fun.
I have been on this train since page one, book one. Jerry is not a talented technical writer. I've published a few books, back in the 80's when finding a publisher willing to take a chance on a new author was a nightmare, and I don't think Jerry could have gotten published back then. This would have been a huge loss for readers everywhere. For, while Jerry lacks the training to assemble a "proper" novel, (he has improved dramatically, let me add) somehow this crude, fumbling style adds to the heart, the... authenticity, of the story. While part of my brain was mentally moaning over the clumsy dialogue, or the enormous plot holes, the story itself is so enjoyable , so much pure FUN, that nothing else matters. Don't be put off by the clumsy writing, particularly in the first half of the series. Jerry does make dramatic improvements over time- I left many constructive comments and I saw many others doing the same, I don't know if any of us impacted his writing or not. Whatever the reason, he improved. But allow yourself to simply flow with the stories, and enjoy them despite- or in some manner because of- the rough edges.
As for me, I sincerely hope that Jerry never tires of telling this tale as I can't imagine ever tiring of reading it.
I think this is one of more action filled chapters of this story, though it is so filled with multi-dimensional characters, it also qualifies as character development too. Hints of the crew facing challenges more on their own level, a shadowed figure in the background pulling strings.
Just all good stuff! I had to read this through as the story was both compelling and the hinted at mysteries? To me that may signal that Mr. Boyd has more stories left he wants to tell.
That makes me really happy. If you have not read the whole series, I suggest you try it. The story is amazingly coherent, all 39 “chapters.”
Every book that comes out is a treat. I buy them so that they are as permanent as any electronic documents can be.
Long winded near rambling on my part. All cones down to, the books are really good! Try them!!
Enjoyed this book just as much as the other 38. Glad Bob got back into the Black. He needed to get away from the Earth system for a while. Pondwater killing himself sounds like a just end to him. Could the same people that gave him the implants, have something to do with it? Looks like we haven't seen the last of the Squirl Cartel. At least Ambassador Dressie is still in contact with Bob and helping out. Great series. Keep up the good work!!!
I would enjoy it more if there was less repetition about taking the dog to the toilet, saying hello to Preacher, having breakfast, reading the inbox and playing pool with Jeeves. Some of the jokes get a bit repetitive too, but after 39 books that is perhaps understandable!
I was a bit concerned about Nikki this time with a new baby and what appears to be little help or company. I assume someone else is mostly looking after Gus and Becky.
This is Avery exciting episode/book in the series.
Each book in this series is interesting and/or exciting in it's own way. I have read all of them and will say I plan to continue each new book as long as this series continues. To say that I've enjoyed them all is a gross understatement! They have all been fun to read as the characters are all engaging, especially Nikki and Bob. It's easy to 'fall in love' with each one as they are introduced in the story.
I have read the 39 books currently in this series over the last fortnight. They're loads of fun and very satisfying for the soul. Bob is an excellent character, an autistic repairman with an eye for details, who notices most things. He's got superb situational awareness and is able to think sideways. His gentlmanly treatment of his allies is an essential element of his personality and a wonderful guide for any young person reading these books.
The scope of the battles has increased considerably, but the results remain satisfying and reasonable. If you like epic space conflicts you should be happy with the way this plays out, but the real story is in the planning. Oh, a new family member enters the world... the cast of characters is growing every installment. As always, be sure to start at the beginning.
Amazing story. Some will say to much dialog but I personally think it was what the story needed. Welcome to the family Thomas Hailey Wilson. Great name. Sometimes it seems things happen overnight but if you count sleep times it adds up. Another great and fantastic book by Jerry Boyd!!
Like alot of series that the MC ends up in charge, the storyline gets boring fast. Meetings and planning and backup plans and scouting reports oh my... god... The kids are neat for a cozy aspect but even they become blah when it's go home help kids with bits they had problems with, read go to bed. Blahh!
Overall the storyline in this installment was good enough for this reader to overlook the couple of errors in the text. The cast and crew work well together to resolve the problems presented to them, even while under pressure. As usual, the book ends with most story threads resolved, and a soft lead into the next book.
BSR to the rescue! All the regular players, a good number of the not so regular ones and even a few new ones and all brought to a palatable conclusion. Another great addition to the storyline!
In addition to the battle, Bob and Nikki have a new son. Looks like the makings for a lot more books. I am looking forward to them even as I write!
I really enjoy reading these books, they're fun and interesting. The byplay between characters is nice, real people talking to each other. When something bad happens, there are always consequences, and I like the respect shown to women. A lot of action adventure books act like women are objects, not these books.
I think three stars is generous. I've read all the previous books and found the series to start being more filler than story. I like the characters and the concept but am finding the author running out of ideas and filling the books with a ton of repetition. I'm skipping many pages in order to get to the story.
Much better than the average Bob and Nikki books. Mr. Boyd has put a lot more into this story than he usually does. More like when he started the series. I know it is hard to keep coming up with other new plots. I hope he can write more like this one.
Completely addicted. While I can't imagine starting this far in the series, I hope any new readers go to the beginning to enjoy this unique cast of characters.
After so many books, the BSR got another case of pesky powerful enemy, powered (as usual) by our favorite nemesis, The Walnut Cartel! Will Bob and friends be able to deal with them?
I'm not quite sure what has happened but the last 5 books have been outstanding I don't know if it's a different writer or somebody just got better ideas anyway I'm glad they keep it up
As.always Jerry Boyd delivers a fun romp through the "Bob-verse" all the normal characters and a newbie present, A captivating story line and Boyd's signature writing style makes a fun read and as always wanting more.
The usual beautiful dialogue coupled with him good Challengers, and the twists are as good as ever. I think you're going to really enjoy it, and I recommend you buy it soon.
This one was exciting and the kids get an education. I wouldn't want to bet a Bob on them not finding the mystery creeps who had cooked up this cluster bleep in future novels.
Another episode I can never wait long for or read. Great battle scenes. My only problem is keeping track of all the characters. I love this series and enjoy sharing some of the comments.
This is the 39th time of fun, reading the complete series, and have not been disappointed at any of the books. Complements to the author and his "Delicious" way of telling a story. Thank you!
Bob, Nikki, and the rest of the crew pick up the story from where they left off in the previous book. They keep busy helping the good guys and fighting the bad guys. A great read.
